Vote Jay — Peace in the South (TSP Delegate, January 2021)

Hey there, it's your favorite Captain America impersonator here announcing his candidacy for delegate. Yes, you heard that correctly! Jay Coop, whose criminal alias is Qvait, whatever that means, is campaigning to become the delegate of the South Pacific. Now, he's asking for your support to make this guy, whose last name is just one letter away from a coup, the next delegate of the South Pacific, but that's okay. If Jay wanted to coup the region, he wouldn't be so open about it – or would he? lol jkjk.

On a serious note, though, allow me to explain my platform.

---
LEADERSHIP
---
---
---— I served as the Minister of Regional Affairs and later for Foreign Affairs
---
---— I have the experience to lead the South Pacific to brighter horizons
---

In February 2020, the Assembly voted to elect me as the Minister of Regional Affairs. As Minister, I worked with my counterparts in the other Pacifics to co-organize and co-hosted the biggest NationStates event of the year – Pacific-Con – which we held in May 2020. With my peers, I helped establish the first of what could be many annual Pacific-Con events. This event is an example of what I helped accomplish with the trust and confidence of the Assembly that elected me.

In the following term, I successfully campaigned to become the Minister of Foreign Affairs. While serving in that position, I expanded the South Pacific's representation abroad by sending ambassadors to additional regions. What's more, I worked with my defender counterparts to negotiate closer regional relationships with them. While returning to college interrupted my ability to serve as the MoFA for another term, I believe I have the time and energy to serve as the delegate.

Now, I am asking all South Pacific citizens to consider my leadership as the next delegate. This consideration comes with knowing what I have been able to accomplish in the past. I have been a citizen of the South Pacific for nearly seven years, witnessing the tides shift back and forth from delegate to delegate. And now, I am asking for your permission to follow in the footsteps of so many delegates past.

ENDORSEMENTS
---
---
---— There is a 99.9% chance I am currently endorsing you if you are a World Assembly member
---
---— It is only a matter of time before we surpass the North Pacific in endorsements
---

I can confidently state that there is a 99.9% chance I am currently endorsing you if you are a member of the World Assembly – and that is no coincidence. Thanks to the Southern World Assembly Initiative (or SWAN), I have been front and center on the regional leaderboard. SWAN has consistently shown me at or near 100% for many months when it comes to the percentage of regional World Assembly members endorsed. I can also confidently state that I will continue to be near this figure for many more months to come. I am proven to be a reliable endotarter in the South Pacific.

However, I want to help more nations in the South Pacific meet or even surpass my status as one of the region's premier endotarters. This objective begins with you, the person reading this message. As the delegate, I will aim to hold Endorsement Days periodically throughout my term. In doing so, I want to make sure that as many nations as possible are endorsing as many other nations as possible. Since 2012, the North Pacific has proven to be a beast of an endorsement machine, and we are close to snatching that torch from them. Now is our chance to take the leaderboard from the North!

---
WORLD ASSEMBLY
---
---
---— I will work with the OWL and Cabinet to vote in the interest of the South Pacific
---
---— Our regional influence in the World Assembly is growing, and the future is on our side
---

The South Pacific is in the middle of political reform when it comes to the delegate casting a vote in the World Assembly. Traditionally, the Cabinet decided how the delegate voted in the World Assembly. However, we are now moving in the direction of democratizing this process. As the delegate, I will work with the Office of WA Legislation and Cabinet to cast my vote according to the voters' will or regional security.

I will use my delegacy to promote greater democracy in the delegate's vote, which could make or break World Assembly proposals. For this reason, I support the eventual establishment of a Cabinet ministry in which its portfolio is the World Assembly. We need a full-fledged ministry that can oversee our internal votes, mentor those who wish to author resolutions, and perhaps even collaborate with sister ministries in other regions. I believe we can have such a ministry this year.

Even while we are democratizing our World Assembly process, our regional influence in this institution is developing and making our leadership even more consequential. All signs show that the South Pacific will eventually lead a bloc in the World Assembly, something we will be proud of when that day comes. Some in other regions may be uncomfortable with this, but we don't make decisions based on others' comfort. We will make a decision that is best for us.

---
SECURITY
---
---
---— The South Pacific will continue to be one of the safest regions in NationStates
---
---— We can count on each other's endorsements to protect the South Pacific from all threats
---

Since 2016, the South Pacific has come to be known for its safety and security under five delegates' leadership. This security that we have enjoyed in these years will continue in my term. Together, we will protect the region and keep it safe from any person or group who tries to undermine our democracy and way of life. I will work with the Cabinet and Council on Regional Security to ensure our freedom and regional security remain intact throughout my term and facilitate a peaceful transition to a new delegate when that day comes.

As the delegate, my role in keeping our region safe is to ensure that the Council on Regional Security and I maintain a sizable and robust endorsement cap and keep non-CRS members at or below the cap. Together, we will reasonably enforce the cap while also making sure that those who seek to undermine the Coalition of the South Pacific are swiftly ejected and banned. We will not tolerate any group that tries to subvert our democracy and freedom as enshrined in our Charter. My promise is to protect and defend our regional sovereignty from any such subversion.

---
COMMUNITY
---
---
---— We will bridge the divide within our shared regional community that is the South Pacific
---
---— Contrary to unpopular belief, we live in one Pacific, which is the South Pacific
---

The last five letters of community are unity, and that's for a good reason. Some in the South Pacific argues that there is a disconnect between the Regional Message Board, Discord, and the forums. Still, I am here to reject the notion of a divide. We are not the RMB Pacific, nor the Discord Pacific, nor the Forum Pacific. Don't make any mistake when I say this: we are the South Pacific.

During this campaign, I hope to find and win the support of those who share the view that we are the South Pacific. I firmly believe there are more in this region who share this sentiment than those who do not. Together, we shall reject the notion of a disjointed community. For those of us who believe in this message, we will put the unity back in community.

---
PAX AUSTRALIS
---
---
---— I will proclaim the fifth year of peace in the South Pacific
---
---— During this peace, the South Pacific has become an emerging superpower
---

As the delegate, I will proclaim 9 February as the fifth year of Pax Australis, or southern peace, in the South Pacific, which will be the first declaration of its kind. Since the 2016 coup attempt, the South Pacific has enjoyed a prolonged period of general peace and stability, smaller conflicts notwithstanding. During this time, the South Pacific leaped to become a defender, which has solidified our region's position as the world leader of this military philosophy. Not only have we been at peace, but we are an emerging superpower in NationStates.

The South Pacific is the only Pacific to make its plan clear that it is a defender and stands with other defenders in NationStates. Being the single feeder to hold this military philosophy makes our region a natural superpower in this regard. Even more, we live in an era of cooperation and rapprochement with our fellow Game-Created Regions, having begun recently thawing relations with the New Pacific Order and Osiris. We live in the dawn of a new era in our region that shall be known as Pax Australis. Long may there be peace in the South Pacific.

---
CONCLUSION
---

I first joined the South Pacific in 2014, a citizen of this region for nearly seven years. If there's one thing I've shown you in my time here in the South Pacific, it's my dedication to serve and represent the region's interests. At times, I have been willing to take a principled position in the Assembly and defend it, even if it was unpopular. However, it's this maverick attitude I have that should stand out as particularly noteworthy and admirable for a delegatorial candidate.

My fundamental promise to you, the people of the South Pacific, is the safety and security that five delegates past have guaranteed you. Our region's darkest days are in the past, and greener pastures await us in the months and years to come. The peace and stability that we have developed over the past five years is a testament to our regional strength and fortitude. We are the South Pacific, we are at peace, and we are stronger than ever.

Please vote Jay (aka Qvait) for Delegate of the South Pacific.

  1. Who is your favorite politician in real life?

Who is your favorite politician in real life?

Nelson Mandela was one of the greatest voices for freedom, justice, and equality that the world has ever seen. Mandela's story is one of perseverance against tyranny and racial injustice, speaking out against apartheid in South Africa. He spent 27 years of his life imprisoned for this righteous cause and was eventually released and elected president of a free South Africa. May one of the greatest people to have graced this earth rest in peace.

Who is your favorite philosopher in real life?

If you ever take a college course that teaches Greek philosophy at any point, you will most certainly hear the name of Socrates, who has since become my favorite philosopher. His way of thinking, ideas of reason, and rebellious challenges of authority and tradition are the reasons why I hold Socrates with high regard. The Socratic method of debate is one that encourages critical thought, something that many people are in dire need of in real life. So, if you think history is boring and want to sleep on it, please don't think about sleeping on Socrates. His ideas will save the world one day.

Who is your favorite fictional character?

Does this question even need to be asked, question mark.

Cake or pie?

Well, duh-doy! It's pie! Anyone who says otherwise is guilty of treason and shall be subjected to Auphelia's torture and inevitably fed to the Seraphian shark god.

Would you coup the region?

What is your real name?

Ha ha! You thought I was gonna give it to you!

I live on the West Coast of the United States, so I am normally available from 12 pm to 12 am Pacific Time. During standard time, that is 8 pm to 8 am UTC. During daylight (summer) time, that is 7 pm to 7 am UTC. My availability during these hours may be affected by real-life activities.
