Code of Conduct
We've established some simple guidelines to ensure everyone is able to enjoy themselves; please make sure you stick to these when posting on our RMB.
Introduction
This Code of Conduct shall set out the behavioural standards expected of all nations that seek to post on the United Kingdom’s Regional Message Board (RMB). Failure to follow the rules established below will lead to punishments up to, and including, a ban from the region. This Code of Conduct has been put in place to ensure that the RMB is a safe, tolerant, and enjoyable place for all nations in the region, and to prevent a small minority of nations ruining our region for everyone.
Upon entry to this region (United Kingdom), you are agreeing to comply with the rules set out in this Code of Conduct with no exceptions. Ignorance of the rules set out below will not be accepted as an excuse for any breaches of the Code of Conduct. Therefore, we expect all nations that post on our RMB to take the time to read and understand these rules before you begin posting on the RMB.
This Code of Conduct shall be broken into three tiers of Offences, each growing in severity, from the most minor rules in Tier 3, up to the most important rules in Tier 1. Alongside this, you will find the hierarchy of punishments used by the Regional Officers to punish nations for breaking these rules.
As a reminder, while these are the rules established and passed by our region, all nations must also ensure that they follow the rules established by the Nationstates Moderation Team, which can be found in The One Stop Rules Shop.
If you have any questions about anything in this Code of Conduct or you aren’t sure if something you want to say is allowed, feel free to reach out to one of the Regional Officers, and they will try to guide you. However, if you aren’t sure whether what you want to say is allowed, it probably isn’t.
Tier 3 Rules
All posts shall be written in English, or a translation into English provided
No unproductive Triple-posting
This is a situation where a nation posts three times in a row where the comments could have been dealt with in either 1 or 2 consolidated posts. In certain situations triple-posting may be allowed, but it should be discouraged as far as possible. No quote editing
When quoting a nation’s post in order to reply to it, editing such quotes shall be strictly prohibited. Shortening a quote to the section relevant to your response would not breach this rule. Actions such as bolding, underlining, or italicising sections of a quote would not breach this rule so long as they do not alter the content of the quote. No Nation shall speak on behalf of a community that they are not a valid representative of.
For example, no nation shall speak on behalf of Her Majesty’s Government if they do not hold a position that allows them to do so.No Nation should engage with rule-breaking nations. Engaging with a rule-breaking nation will be punished alongside the rule-breaker themselves.
Nations should simply ignore the nation breaking the rules and report the incident to a Regional Officer to prevent giving the rule-breaker more encouragement to continue their offences.
Tier 2 Rules
All posts must be PG-13.
No defaming other nations
A post shall be considered defamatory if it undermines someone’s reputation with lies or unproven statements of fact. This does not include statements made in good faith, with an honest belief in their truthfulness, or with the consent of the person being described. Obvious jokes will not be considered defamation. Defamation during RP would not breach this rule so long as it remains relevant to the RP, doesn't target the individual behind the nation, and isn't too excessive. Regional Officers shall consider cases of defamation during RPs on a case by case basis where needed. No spamming
Posting repetitive meaningless or unsolicited messages is prohibited. No flaming
The use of insults, abuse, or any inappropriate behaviour with the intent to provoke, harm someone’s feelings, or start an altercation is prohibited. No harassing other nations
Behaviour that seeks to demean, humiliate or embarrass a person with the sole aim to provoke and/or cause harm to other nations.
Tier 1 Rules
Bullying of any kind is strictly prohibited
Recruitment to another region or organisation shall be strictly prohibited.
Doxxing, or attempting to dox, another nation shall be strictly prohibited.
All hate speech is strictly prohibited.
Insulting or promoting violence against someone or a group of people because of characteristics such as race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc is strictly prohibited. No Threats
No one shall threaten violence against another individual. Threats may be used during RPs so long as they remain appropriate to the situation they are used in. For example, threatening War would not breach this provision as it would be appropriate to the circumstances. No sexual content
All posts containing sexual contents of any nature shall be prohibited unless it is part of a productive and appropriate debate between nations. It shall be left to Regional Officers to decide whether any debates are productive and/or appropriate.
Punishments
The following punishments shall serve as guidance for all Regional Officers dealing with breaches of the above rules. It is within the prerogative of any Regional Officer to punish a rule breaker as they see fit, the below rules do not prevent a Regional Officer from handing out a tougher punishment should they deem it necessary.
Punishment for breaking a Tier 3 rule will be the suppression of the post in question as well as a verbal warning from the Regional Officers. Repetitive breaches of Tier 3 rules will raise the breach to a Tier 2.
Punishment for breaking a Tier 2 rule shall be suppression of the post in question, alongside a formal, final warning of ejection should the rule breaking occur again.
Punishment for breaking a Tier 1 rule shall be post suppression and an automatic ejection. Should the nation return to the region and commit further Tier 1 or Tier 2 offences, they would be subject to a temporary or permanent ban from the region, depending on the severity of the offences.
Article 17(b)(i) of the Security and Defence Act (2021) sets out that the use of puppets to evade a ban is strictly prohibited, and will result in the banning of offending puppets, regardless of their behaviour.
Behaviour on Embassy Regional Message Boards
Whenever a nation posts on the RMB of an allied region through our regional embassies, such a nation is a de facto representative of our region during their time posting on the allied RMB, and as such, you are expected to behave to the highest of standards with no exceptions. During such times, you must follow the rules of the RMB you are posting on. We will take a zero tolerance behaviour to any reports of our nations misbehaving on another region’s RMB, and Regional Officers will punish such behaviour accordingly. As our representatives abroad, you should be showing the world the great things about our region, and soRegional Officers will take a very dim view of any nation that does not meet these expectations.
