Overview
Updated: December 2020

Fort Charlotte is a province in the south of Serpens Land. With a population of around four million, it is Serpens Land's third most populous province. Fort Charlotte is Serpens Land's only province not conected to mainland Serpens Land. The province consists of two main islands: Addison Island and Brockton Island. Fort Charlotte is home to the capital city of Serpens Land, also named Fort Charlotte. However, the capital city of Fort Charlotte is, in fact not the City of Fort Charlotte. Fort Charlotte's capital is Eaton, a city on eastern tip of Brockton Island.

Fort Charlotte was first settled by British colonists in the 18th century. It was one of the original European settlements in Serpens Land. During the 1830s Fort Charlotte became the centre of Serpens Land. The City of Fort Charlotte quickly became a modern city. When Serpens Land gained self governance in 1907, it was divided into two territories: Northern Territory, and Fort Charlotte Territory. Fort Charlotte Territory encompassed the whole of modern Fort Charlotte and Chatham. When the Republic of Erodesia separated from Serpens Land in 1915, Fort Charlotte Territory, and part of Northern Territory remained in the Dominion of Serpens Land. The Dominion was divided into two provinces: Chatham and Fort Charlotte until reunification in 1957. The Provinces Act of 1958 established the current borders of Fort Charlotte and it's system of government.

The Fort Charlotte economy was historically dominated by the extraction of resources. During the 20th century, Fort Charlotte provided over 60% of Serpens Land's fish. Due to overfishing, this number has dropped considerably. Fort Charlotte continues to have a considerable lumber industry. In more recent years, Fort Charlotte has transitioned more into a service based economy. Tourism is one of the largest industries in Fort Charlotte, bringing in over £2 million anually.

Fort Charlotte is connected to mainland Serpens Land by the 16km long Seymour Tunnel completed in 1993. The Seymour Tunnel is the largest tunnel in Serpens Land. It allows vehicle traffic to travel from mainland Serpens Land to Fort Charlotte under the Charlotte Straight. The majority of the islands making up Fort Charlotte are connected by Highway 37: a series of roadways and tunnels spanning from Addison Island to Brockton Island.
