Amneros Peninsula

The Amneros Peninsula, home to the industrial, food, and infrastructure hearts of Amos-Nuraka, is a diverse region with many different areas, different features, and different marvels. It is the most populated region of Amos Nuraka with around 32 million total inhabitants, and features many different environments.

Upper Peninsula

The Uppermost portion of the Peninsula is home to 8.5 million people, a good amount of the total Amos-Nurakan population. The largest city in the Upper Peninsula is Zemfilon, with 2.7 million inhabitants, located near the tip of the peninsula at Cape Mirex. The area around Cape Mirex is very special, as it is another site with the Ale-Fanan rocks. This is the biggest deposit of them found so far. Cape Mirex and the surrounding region is also a site of the Beige Cliffs, a rocky outcropping, a remnant of the massive landslide which occurred here many centuries ago. Farther down the Peninsula the coastline flattens out, and we encounter the beautiful beaches of Mira. The Miran beaches are also an excavation site for ancient Nabiin artifacts, artifacts left behind by the city-state of Nabiin that made its home in the region. West of the Miran beaches, after a quick pass through the Amneros F.D., we approach the western side of the Upper Peninsula. This is where the cities of Axero, Zondia, and Falovo stand. These 3 cities are modern marvels, and Amos-Nuraka's current megaproject. Other than it's interests in space, of course. These "Sister Cities" (their common name) are being built, and are planned to house a population 2 times that of Amneros itself. These 3 cities form an under-construction megalopolis the size of the well-known megacomplexes of Alexandria and Amneros itself.

Lower Peninsula

The Lower Peninsula is also a marvel, stretching from the city of Pekeron on the Kepp bay to the edges of the Hafxi Coast, and even occupying some of the Amneros F.D. outskirts. The Central Lower Peninsula is high-tech arable land, full of hydroponic farms and a few remaining animal farms. Due to the past desert enchroachment of desert on this area of land due to the remnant effects of climate change, barriers and reclamation zones have been put in place to successfully harvest the sand and irrigate the imported soils in the region. Due to the large Enke Desert to the south, sand is a major export of the Lower Peninsulan economy, due to the large demand for it in order to build skyscrapers and devices. The suburbs of Pekeron lie on the easternmost parts of the Lower Peninsula, coined Outer Pekeron by the populace. Outer Pekeron is a small city with only 300,000 people, placing it number 13 on the list of largest cities. To the far west we encounter Sartorus on the eastern coast, near the Sister Cities complex and the Demar Coast. Sartorus has a population of 1.2 million people, also making it one of the largest cities. It has reclaimed extensive territory from the sea due to it's strategic position of the high-rising, shallow, Sartin Plateau. In the future, once further development occurs, Sartorus is expected to merge with the Sister Cities megacomplex in the next 20 years.

Amneros F.D.

The Amneros Federal District, the capital of Amos-Nuraka, is a virtual ecumenopolis, with skyscrapers reaching tall in every direction, the only unused pieces of space being newly built spaces, and unsuprisingly a huge populace with 11 million people. The Amneros F.D. is located straight in the center of the Amneros Peninsula, being landlocked. The Federal District has a few individual cities other than Amneros, one example being Pendik-Amneros, an incorporated city, and Astif-Amneros, a group of supertall buildings that house 100,000 of the richest people in Amos-Nuraka. The existence of Astif-Amneros has been questioned many times, but today it still stands. The Federal District is also home to the current tallest building in the world, the Etgarim Tower, standing at a height of about 1 kilometer. There is also a proposed space elevator in Amneros, but further funding is needed in order to build it.

Kandoss Isles

The Kandoss Isles are peculiar features, a series of crescent shaped isles located off the coast of Cape Mirex. Their capital city is of the same name, being Kandoss. The Isles have a total population of 5 million, with Kandoss having a population of almost 1 million. The Isles are made up of 5 major islands and a few other atolls. The 5 major isles are Kandoss Island, the largest and the capital island, Redimon Island, the 2nd largest, south of Kandoss, Ezujluk Island, the 3rd largest, northwest of Kandoss, Entilen Island, east of Ezujluk, and finally Sipm Island, a small island east of Redimon. The Isles are beautiful, having intricate topography and beautiful reefs inside their crescent, but hide a deep secret. The Isles were formed from a series of isolated tectonic plates converging, creating large cliffs of underground rock combined with a flat plain descending into the sea. Therefore, the isles are always kept watch on, and are one of the most surveillanced areas in the nation.

Greater Enke Region

The Greater Enke Region is the colloquial name for all of the provinces in the general area of the Enke Desert, being the provinces of Enke, Tendin-Alambazz, and Ormasun-Red. The total population of these 3 regions is a meager 6 million, even with them being in total over 3 times the size of the Amneros Peninsula. They are majorly desert with some mesa and mountains, however, a few regions are salt flats and below sea-level depressions. Overall, all three regions have had a long history, but the Enke Desert is explained here in more detail due to the more detailed records left behind by the previous inhabitants of the region.

Enke

The Enke Desert itself is a large expanse of sand and rock, with not much inbetween. However, the desert itself and areas around it have had a long history and reveal to be more than they appear at first glance. The Enke Desert, like the larger Awaru Desert, is an inland desert stretching from Malisea all the way to Temnar. The Amos-Nurakan portion of the Desert is quite large, being triple the size of the Amneros Peninsula.

History

Around the city-state period of Amosite history, the desert was even more sparsely populated than today. That, however, all changed when during the rise of the First Amosite Empire. Following Nasea's conquests, The Amosite criminals and some slaves began being deported to the desert and cast out. Most of them ended up dying, but they eventually spread out across the oases that are in the desert. Eventually a sort of Mayan-like government with isolated city-states located round oases trading occasionally. When the First Amosite Empire collapsed and there was another city-state phase, the oasis-states, you could call them, stayed isolated. However, when the Naqq Depression was accidentally breached by Nurakan engineers around the time of the short-lived Enti Nurak, everything changed for the oasis-states. Due to the new body of water, they ended up colonizing the region, introducing new flora and fauna to the region and vying for it's precious water. This kickstarted the fall of the Enti Nurak as rebellions began in the Enke Desert, soon spreading to its heartland in Amneros. Soon after the fall of the Enti Nurak the Second Amosite Empire came in and conquered the various oasis-states, bringing them into the fold. The rest is history as the Second Amosite Empire collapsed and the democratic Republic of Amos-Nuraka was established in it's place before it's reforms into a Federal Republic.

Industries and Population

The entire region of Enke has a population of 1 million, and a very small economy. Enke is however, a hub for international travel as it is where many of the underground maglev trains are. Overground, Enke's population is center densely around various oases, with connections between them being far-off and infrequent. The largest city in Enke, Kanden Truk, founded along the Naqq Bay, is swelling with 50,000 people being tightly jammed in a space a quarter of the size of Demé. Most of Enke's economy comes from the major sand mining industries, and it is one of Amos-Nuraka's main exports. There is also the terracotta industry to a certain extent, as parts of the more inland Desert are parts of mesas.

Tendin-Alambazz

The intricate mountains of Trans-Alambazz stretch until they reach the end of the Enke Desert, but Tendin-Alambazz is only one portion. Tendin-Alambazz borders Ashur to the west, the Enke Desert to the south and east, and the Hafxi Coast to the northeast. In Tendin-Alambazz there is a series of long-standing terraced mountain cities, each being founded many years ago, most during the City-State period. The most prominent of these mountain cities is Andiku, with it being the largest city in the region, containing 35,000 people of the 2 million living in the region.

Ormasun-Red

Ormasun-Red is just the outermost portions of the Red Lakes. It has a population of 3 million, due to it's cities along the Ormasun River. It's largest city, Xinif, is on the evaporation delta of the river, giving the city an extensive salt industry due to the salt flats surrounding it. The city is an oasis in a desert, with extensive irrigation, maglev connections to other cities along the Demar Coast, and itself is a materials testing site sue to the extreme environment surrounding it.

The Coasts

Demar Coast
The Demar Coast is a strip of land bordering the Amneros Peninsula to the east, the Enke Desert to the South, The Pafxil Sea to the north, and the Red Lakes to the west. It contains the cities of Demé and Pekeron, with Demé being in the center of the coast and Pekeron in a bay between the Amneros Peninsula and the Demar Coast

Demé
Deme is an old city, mentioned in the maps made by old Amosite geographer Pasius of Apsikos. It has 3 main sectors, the Old Sector, where many of the old sandstone buildings and repurposed monasteries stand, the Karawa Sector, a large tract of reclaimed desert with a large amount of underground habitation infrastructure, and the IT Demé Sector, famous for it's spaceport, the Amder-Ale. Demé has a population of ~6 million, and is surrounded by the Demar Coast. Demè has also migrated from the Ale-Fana Oasis due to decreasing water levels.

Pekeron
Pekeron is a smaller city, home to only around 700,000 inhabitants. Pekeron is relatively new, only being founded around 200 years ago. On the outskirts of Pekeron there is the ruins of Ambadax, which was built into a mountain that collapsed on it. It is thought that the collapse of Ambadax is what caused the downfall of the Second Amosite Empire.

Hafxi Coast
The Hafxi Coast, similar to the Demar Coast, is a strip of land. It borders the Amneros Peninsula to the west, the Enke Desert to the south, the Pafxil Sea to the north, and the Trans-Alambazz Mountains to the southwest. It is home to ~19 million people, with a majority living in Apsikos and Old Nuraka City.

Apsikos
Apsikos used to be the regional capital of the Confederation of city-states before the First Amosite Empire, but now it has fallen into place as a secondary city to Amneros. It is one of the largest, behind Demé, with 3 million citizens. It is built outward, with the oldest buildings located near the center, and buildings progressively getting newer as you go outwards due to the Apsikan tradition of not building on top of older buildings.

Old Nuraka City
Old Nuraka City is an ancient city, with around 1.7 million inhabitants. It is actually located relatively inland on the Hafxi Coast, being supplied with water by the nearby Ormasun River and it's tributaries that evaporate into evaporation basins. Old Nuraka City is also the site of the Pyramid Complex, an ancient structure of 9 pyramids. They are in a square pattern with there being a massive central one and 8 smaller step-pyramids surrounding it, with bridges connecting all 9. It has been maintenanced for the last 500 years, since it was built.

Outer Territories

Pafxil Overseas Territories

The Pafxil Overseas Territories encompass almost all of the Amos-Nurakan owned Pafxil Sea. It is a public territory, with much less strict rules on development, so many offshoots of companies hav placed bases in and under the sea in order to extract resources/ research. There are also planned seasteads, but those are planned to be started within the next 3 years. The largest sea base is the Infi-owned Infika Seafloor City. It is the most successful of all of the enterprises many companies have tried, attracting almost 32,000 inhabitants. The administrative capital is the Arale Sea Base, a sea-level capital complex. It is anchored to the seafloor by a chain, but also moves independently on occasion.

Red Flamingos and the Red Lakes

Overview of the Flamingos
Due to the presence of the Red Lakes, less "Lakes" as more basins filled with freshwater and saltwater, many bird species are attracted to them, with flamingos being the majority. They are renowned for their vibrant colors as adults and their population in Amos-Nuraka. The Red Lakes are also part of the Red Lake Sanctuary, one of the only natural reserves in the small nation, meaning it is uninhabited due to environmental pristineness.

Sub-species
The majority of flamingos that live near or in the Red Lakes are either of the Red Lake Flamingo subspecies (Phoenicopterus rugas). These specialized flamingos have a higher heat tolerance than most other flamingo species and can live in high-salinity environments. There are also some Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) in the lower-saline environments of the A'na ruins.

Habitat
The Red Lakes are shallow endorheic basins that fill with river runoff and seawater every year. For many months, due to the Mediterranean climate of Amos-Nuraka, they are home to many bird species. They are inhospitable, and are part of the Red Lakes Sanctuary. The Lakes were once home to the sprawling city of Great A'na, but that was back in the times of the First Amosite Empire. A'na is now ruins, but for a time after the Amosite Empire there were a few settlements of religious zealots along the coast that were outcast from the short-lived Second Amosite Empire. There are a few subregions of the Red Lakes, a few being the A'na ruins, the hypersaline Keke region, the Ale-Fana Oasis, and the main lakes.

Keke Region
The Keke Region is hypersaline, renowned for its extreme salt content, rivaling that of the Gaet'ale Lake, with a salt content of ~42.8%. Not much lives in the region, as flamingos can't survive in this region. During the time of the First Amosite Empire, these few lakes in the Keke were holy sites, and it was said that anyone brave enough to drink from the lakes was bound to the lakes, ensuring a happy life. During the foolish time of religious zealotry, many tried this and failed, dying in the process. Alas, one of the Amos-Nurakan's early mistakes.

Ale-Fana Oasis
The Ale-Fana Oasis is a classic oasis, fed by the underground Ormasun river. It is also endorheic, but has a special rock which absorbs salt and redistributes it across the soil. Ale-Fana is located on the edge of the Red Lakes, and was once home to the sprawling city of Demé, but once water levels dropped due to population growth, the city was relocated over a period of 20 years to the much nicer Demar Coast, which got it's name from the city.

Conclusion
The Red Lakes are a very diverse region, home to many species and many plants and animals. It has some of the most interesting geography in Amos-Nuraka, and is a haven for history and artifacts.

Unofficial Overseas Territories
Amos-Nuraka has many unofficial territories under control by the Pafxil Overseas Territories, but are usually classified as autonomous entities by the people living there.
