Nightly Layem: Everything You Need To Know About Layem's New Talk Show

On Tuesday, Masconvia finished setting up the Nightly Layem, which he describes as a talk show/news show. So what is this show and how do you listen? I’ll answer those questions in this article.

The main highlight of the show will be an interview. Masconvia will interview someone every show. Masconvia also said that it will include US Politics as well. Masco also made a theme song that will be played in the beginning and at the end of the show.

So, how do I listen? It’s quite easy, in fact. At 8 PM MDT (10 PM EST, 7 PM PST) every other day, the show will start in Jeff’s Rec Room in the Discord. You can join the call to listen. Just remember to mute your mic when you’re not asked to talk.

New People at the Layem Times!

The Layem Times has doubled in workers, and here's how. First, Nexus Sierra joined the newspaper and then wrote one of the longest articles in Layem Times history. Elvato joined as well, and he's the advertisement manager, so he collects ads. Last but not least, ComputerVirus aka SomethingIsWrongHere*, joined as the fiction writer. He is the only person in the Layem Times that writes fiction, not about news.

Owl Archipeligo Victorious in Thallasian Election: An In-Depth Report

According to recent news from NationStates Today as of July 28, 2020, Thalassia's election for prime minister has been interesting as the nation Owl Archipelago has been at the forefront of the competition racing for the victory they all seek. Five individual candidates themselves partook in the election, but Owl Archipelago took first place overall of the competing nations in triumph which only one rival named Yaldian Territories was able to pick up any votes. Also according to the NationStates Today news story, Owl Archipelago is taking over the position from former Thalassian prime minister Arenado, who was in the government position of the region for two terms since their election in January of this year, being able to gain re-election running with no opposition candidates in April also of this year. The Owl Archipelago previously ran for a former government role known as president which was abolished though in October 2019, where they finished in a distant third place in the race. Ever since, Owl Archipelago served as an active member of the Thalassia civil service, being able to have risen through the ranks to become the region's Minister of Information; this experience in the executive branch was a key play of the election platform they used. They also presented ideas such as an ambassador recruitment program, inter-regional roleplays, and establishing a legislature that aided their race.

The results of the prime minister election were published on the Regional Message Board in Thalassia on July 20, 2020. Owl Archipelago swiftly overtook the competition presented before them to pick up 28 votes, while Yaldian Territories received 3 votes, and the other four candidates received no votes at all. The region of Thalassia displays hope, faith, and high expectations in the about to be new prime minister of the region, and regarding the other competitors who fell behind in the election, they'll continue or continue not to pursue their goals and objectives. In an exclusive statement borrowed from NS today that was provided to NationStates Today by Owl Archipelago originally, Owl Archipelago detailed and laid out their plans for the upcoming term that they will serve.

”My priorities are to improve some systems within the way the government works – one example of that is the creation of an editing team for our regional newspaper – and also to expand and improve our relations through cultural inter-regional events. I have already started the planning on [a] roleplay scenario which will be open to people from outside Thalassia to join as well." -Owl Archipelago-

Now that The Owl Archipelago is prime minister, they also have an established cabinet working with them, and according to July 20, 2020, the members of the cabinet announced that they will help aid Owl Archipelago in the months ahead plus the region of Thalassia they represent. Former PM (Prime Minister) Arenado shall continue service to Thalassia as the Minister of Recruitment in addition to a new role as Deputy Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Wymondham assumed a new job as Minister of Administrative Affairs, Crow Metropolis took over Owl’s former role as Minister of Information, Ayeinc was appointed as Minister of Security in addition to serving as Vice Delegate, and Veaetmar and Zentata were both reappointed as Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Culture respectively.

July 2020 URA Election Results

The URA just finished their elections! The results were posted by Orca and Narwhal between 1:10 and 1:27 PM Eastern Time on Discord.

Vice President
The race for Vice President was very close. In fact, Whatermelons only won by 1 vote. 1 VOTE! The XXI Legion got 36 votes, about 49%, and Whatermelons got 37 votes, or about 51%.

From my past article from Issue 11:
Whatermelons believes that the World Assembly voting system is flawed, and will try to fix it if elected to office. “It is slow, inefficient, and doesn’t even provide recommendations.” he/she said during a debate. He said that he will make a voting system that is fast and guides voters.
Whatermelons thinks that he/she is qualified for the job because he/she has been President of 2 regions, Hive and Mariner Trench. He/She has also written up 2 proposals for the World Assembly and says more are coming soon.

President:
Unlike the Vice Presidential race, this one was not close. Suvmia won, getting 49 votes or about 67%, and Bluelight earned 24 votes or about 33%.

From my past article from Issue 11:
Suvmia is a proponent of a strong central government that is active and interacts with its member regions and nations. He/She wants to fix what he/she thinks is an increasingly irrelevant network of regions.
Suvmia wants to reduce the involvement of the Executive Positions in the Council and increase the involvement of the Council. He/She will fix this by stopping the people in the Executive positions from taking on jobs that would otherwise have been done by members of the Council.
Suvmia also wants to reduce regional inequality. Suvmia wrote this in his/her campaign manifesto to prove that there is regional inequality in the URA: “Our top 50% of regions - the 17 highest percentage contributors - holds approximately 96% of all our total statistics. That means that half of our member regions - a total of 17 regions, mind you - holds just about 4% the citizenry, influence, and endorsements of the entire Alliance.” He/She will make this problem less substantial by increasing the contributions of the regions that hold the least power.
Suvmia says there is a problem with voting. Only 44 ballots were cast in the last election for Head of Interregional Roleplay, a 3% turnout. He/She says that it is unfair that only people on the Discord can vote. Under a Suvmia administration, this would be solved by distributing ballots to every member of the URA, bringing in people who didn’t know about the elections or who were not on Discord.

Head of Public Affairs:
This was very close. Lanaograd won, earning 51.5% of the vote or 34 votes, and Jambon lost, winning 32 votes or 48.5%.

Head of Liberation:
The Head of Liberation election was quite close. Ascanian won, with 38 or about 52%. Merit lost, winning 35 votes, or about 48% of the vote.

Head of Roleplay:
This race wasn’t very close. I believe that this is due to Ardillonot’s lack of experience in the RP. Merit (yes, he ran for 2 positions) earned 60% of the vote, or 42 votes. Ardillonot earned 40%, or 28 votes.

From my past article from Issue 11:
Merit, if elected, would put a stop to a dice roll deciding who wins a war. He/She said that the dice would stay, but not become the deciding factor in war. Also, Merit would expand production.
Merit would have 5 staff members, made up of 3 moderators and 2 cartographers. These are the positions:
Moderators:
Military:
Economic:
Technological:
Cartographer:
Cartographer:
Assistant Cartographer:
Merit is quite the opposite of Ardillonot in terms of experience in RP. Merit says in his campaign manifesto that he has moderated and managed “almost every kind of Roleplay under the sun across several years.” Also, he/she said that he/she was the sole moderator in the last RP, managing most of the aspects of it.

Head of Recruitment:
New Reiji won Head of Recruitment, with 43 votes, or about 63%. Emaha earned 25 votes, or 37%.
