The Empire began it downfall when it send military enforcement to South Ravecia to defend it against the communist North, but the military's purging of dissent, harsh treatment of it's civilians, and it's shoot-on-site illegal emigration polices meant that there was massive protests against Mordkan intervention and the international community condemning and embargoing them, and on the authorisation of General Richard Rokoric staging a coup against the North Ravecian Government, establishing an Mordkan Military Government, Mordkan troops then marched up North, starting the Ravecian War. An international collision was sent to aid the North, as full on conflict resulted in millions of deaths on both sides, and eventually the Mordkans retreated, but not before destroying major cities and it infrastructure. With the embargo resulted in massive shortages and the crippling of the stability of the Empire, a military coup overthrown the Emperor and the Imperial Family went into exile, General Rokoric declared himself Grand Marshal of the First Mordkan Republic.
