Etyangoldi Alliance (message 1 of 2):
The land of the Etyangoldi Alliance is quite mysterious to the outsider, as there is not a lot of information regarding them. The reasons for this are currently unknown. What is known, however, are the following.

The lands of Etyangoldi Alliance are rumored to hold great treasures, artifacts and even some enchanted items. The ruler of this kingdom is an elf of royal bloodline, named Curufinwe Fallenstar. He is very charismatic, a true demagogue, knowledgeable in the art of war and has a reputation for being cunning, self-absorbed and even resentful. Quick to anger and easily provoked, he is rumored to often employ unorthodox (unconventional) tactics and to have little care for the lives of those under his command when he sets a goal in mind. In the same time, the armies of the Etyangoldi Alliance are elite, not necessarily due to their personal prowess in battle but rather due to some top tier armor and quality weapons.

Curufinwe Fallenstar and the bulk of his army was last known to be found in the province of Hollin, the capitol of the Etyangoldi Alliance. They are resting there after the successful conquest of Cardolan from the descendant kings of Numenor.

The Variag Order:
The many clans of Southern Mordor have, apparently, united under Ulwarth the First, ruler of the Variag Order. A legitimate claim for unification in this part of the world is usually related to how big your sword is, how far can you swing it and by how many die before you. And Ulwarth is shy in no aspect; he rules the clans with an iron fist and is sure to provoke some serious damage. So, now, with the clans united he looks elsewhere to increase his gain. And the only way is up.

But walking on a path of war and death may not be sufficient in these greener pastures of the world. Allies can prove to be a necessary evil, at least for securing a front; be it northern, eastern or western. Important decisions are to be made. Until then, Ulwarth the First and his armies reside at the capitol, Sutherland, and have sent a few messages.

"To the kingdom of Rohan,

This is in part a notice and a demand. The free folk, under my rule, wish riches and wish land. Here, we lack both riches and land. As such, we are expanding. You can be our allies or you can be our enemies.

The Variag Order"

also,

"To the empire of Coldvar,

The Variag Order salutes you. Some southern kings left our lands for Andrast, Belfalas and Anfalas, and I'm sure you're a descendant of one of them as the blood of a southernern runs through your veins. Or I hope it does, for if it does not, then it means that my folk perished to the blade of your folk. And if such a case is true, then I must seek retribution.

I hope not, as my plans are to expand and I wish to have allies that I can trust. Or enemies that are worth my blade.
What say you?"

and, finally, one last message.

"To the ruler of the Broken Tooth Tribe, Snicklefritz,

I hope that this message reaches you in good omens. My folks and your folks surely fought alongside, at one point in the distant past, around the plains of Mordor. Now, its up for the taking. What are your goals, your desires, your plans? Are you interested in reigniting some sort of lost connection between the freefolks of Khand and Sutherland and the orcs and goblins? Or are you decided to take glory in your own hands and test the waters? I warn you, they're quite muddy.

Hope you get the meaning of my message. Understanding or a good fight. For Nurn, for Mordor, and, why not, for the rest of Middle Earth. Or the seeds of an alliance, a bigger clan and glory for the both of us.
"

The Woodland Enclave:
If you're not a dwarf then you would not believe it if you were not to see it with your own eyes; but if you were to see it with your own eyes, you wouldn't be able to speak about it afterwards - as you'd either be dead, have your tongue and eyes cut out, or, if you're lucky, you'd be working for the rest of your life in the harsh mines of the Iron Hills.

I'm talking about the dwarf queen of the Woodland Enclave, Barazturg. The name means 'red beard' in the popular language but few would assume that its a female they're referring to. Yet here she is, in all her glory, at the spearhead of a dwarf battalion; beautiful contraptions, war machines and heavily armored warriors wielding powerful rune weapons and skirmishers proficient in crossbows and axe-trowing, their ever-lasting loyalty to the cause and to their queen makes for a powerful foe or a sturdy ally.

Alone, isolated in the woods, the Woodland Enclave slowly grows in power. But the craving for an united dwarf front is still a powerful cog in the dwarf mindset so Barazturg plans to try to connect with other dwarves. As such, she sends a few emissaries to other places of Middle Earth, namely to the Iron Hills, to the Grey Mountains, to the High Pass and to Moria, to Forochel and to the Blue Mountains. She wonders if there are any dwarves residing in these lands ...

Trollshaw Realm:
Ettenmoors and Rhudaur are known to be desolate marshes, woodlands and mountains filled with dark creatures, and as such many castles and towers were built on top of hills all around the realm by the good folk wishing to protect themselves against the perils of the land. But without a good coordination, a central power or at least an influencial noble to keep the reigns and assume some sort of command, bad things happen.

And in this case, those bad things had a name. Trolls. Trolls. Trolls. Big trolls. Trolls smash. And not long after, the built towers were just a pile of cracked bricks and the castles of Rhudaur looked much like small stone ruins, a reminder of old times. But these trolls are not just smash and smash and smash. You can say that they're quite smart. Especially this particular troll, Torogok. Not a big talker, but a real do-er. He realized that instead of eating folk they could thrall folk. And make the folk fight for them. Or be eaten if they refuse, of course. There's no glory in being eaten (not to mention that its quite gruesome) but there's some glory in a death on the battlefields.

Trolls, with the help of slaves, captives and servants, managed to have a good hold on Ettenmoors and Rhudaur and are now planning to expand.

There's just a small issue. Torogok the troll heard from some captives that there's a king to the South that may prove to be a small nuisance. And why fight a kingdom when you can continue to smash around, own townsfolk and conquer more land? After all, its quite nice to be a troll and not be a thrall but own a thrall.

"Send a message to the elf Curufinwe", Torogok said to one of his human servant (that appears to be quite healthy, well fed and with all his limbs still attached).
"Glory to the Etyangoldi Alliance,
The trolls of Ettenmoors salute you.
We have no quarrels with you.
You're good folk."
"And be back quickly. Or else ...", Torogok added to his servant, before to get his dinner.

Etyangoldi Alliance (message 2 of 2):
The news of an emissary from the troll-lands up north reached Curufinwe Fallenstar while he was giving an inspired speech to the folk gathered at the meeting point of the rivers Sirannon and Glanduin. Promises of unmeasurable riches in the future are a good starting point to rally people before serving them the actual prerequisite of owning said riches .. the need for mithril ore.

And so, there's growing talk at corners of armed expeditions to be planned towards the Misty Mountains, where Curufinwe believes that mithril ore can be secured. Or, even better, to trade hands.

So the news of an emissary from the trolls, describing what looks to be a non aggression pact, isn't something that a good commander should hastly dismiss.

"A war on more fronts is costly, especially now after we just finished annexing Cardolan", Curufinwe said to his squire, while adding "the insolence, impertinence and lack of tact of these trolls is going to be punished, but not right now. We need the ores and the smiths of Khazad-dûm working for us, replenishing our weapons, armor and coffers. So tell the trolls that the Etyangoldi Alliance has no quarrels with the trollfolk of Ettenmoors, tell them that we can live in peace and can even fight common enemies. Tell them that the borders are secure, and tell them whatever else you wish as long as they're going to turn their attention elsewhere. For we will strike, but not right now."

The Frostbeard Clan:
The Clan had roamed the frozen tundra for generations, fishing for whales and hunting mammoths. But their new king Dralvik II wants more for his people. His father founded Khazâd-gund from an ancient ruin dating from the First Age, excavated into a glacier, and when he died he left the task of finishing it to his son. Despite this, the current king believes that he and his people should go to more promising lands, as these hostile lands and the current fight with wolfs-hides hinder optimal development for his people.

Dralvik II and his commander, Baldur, were caught in an ambush as they returned from a meeting with an emissary from the Woodland Enclave. He and his personal guard barely escaped, and the emissary separated from them by falling into the icy water. They fled through the desolate cliffs of Ice Bay on foot being chased by the wolf-hides.

"If we can get to the Gronkerna Range", Balur yelled, pointing to a peak in the mist, his voice barely perceptible by the wind. "We can meet the division that is stationed there, my lord."

Dralvik II looked across the rugged landscape of the icy tundra, across the wind-whipped gray glaciers, and shook his head: "We can't go that way. They'll beat us before we reach the middle of the mountain. You can see the breath of their wolves through the rocks.” He, toke a deep breath and with a cold gaze said: "Sharpen your axes and picks! We will cut them open and make our way to the east! Send a message to Barazturg... right now we need as many dwarves as we can..."

Balur threw a stone, watching it jump through the ice, dragging clouds of mist before it disappeared with a splash in a crack in the surface:"So it begings..."

The Empire of Coldvar:
The Empire of Coldvar is a horrifying empire. Not, because the are cruel and evil, but because of a failed Wizard and a foolish Emperor.

Long ago, before the current Emperor was on the throne. A Wizard promising untold strength and wisdom to the Empire's citizens, came to the Emperor. And with the Emperor's approval. The Wizard cast a spell on the entire Empire.

No one knows if the spell was on propose or if the spell failed. But, the Empire learned to never trust people who play with magic.

The spell that was cast turned everyone in the Empire into half demons. Where they still had human features, but there were visible difference to normal humans.

A hatred grew in the Empire from that day. A hatred and distrust of people that use magic.

Present Day:

Emperor Nikolai sits in his command tents. He is writing on a scroll when a squire came running in. He glances up from his work, "What is it boy?"

"A Message, sir." The boy shakes with fear.

The Emperor reaches and takes the message from the Squire. Nikolai waves the boy away. The message is from the Variag Order. He finishes the message, and gets out a fresh parchment.

To the Variag Order,
"I do not know of the southern kings you speak of, but my people have been here for along time. Maybe we are descendants of who you speak of. I have no quarrel with you, and I have the same visions as you. I wish to expand my Empire, and bring glory to my people.

How about a non-aggression pact between our nations?"

As Nikolai rolls the parchment up. General Elkins walks in.
"Sir, the troops are ready."

"Good. I'll be with you in a thundercrash." The General nods and leaves.

The Emperor dons his armor, and walks out of his tent. He stops in front of his soldiers and raises his sword, "For the Empire!"

Two thousand troops respond with the thunderous noise of yelling and metal crash on metal.

The Kingdom of the Defender's Fjord:
The Defender's Fjord was an isolationist kingdom when it was ruled by the Before-Kings. Now, King Alexius I Comnenus rules, and he wants better for his people. Sitting in his newly made war tent outside of his capital, Withered Heath, he is writing messages on two scrolls. The first one reads:

Barazturg, Queen of the Woodland Enclave Elves,
We have received your message and wholeheartedly agree with your vision of a united dwarf front. I send this emissary bearing gifts, and this scroll, where I agree to join into your new dwarf alliance.

And the second one:

Snicklefritz, Exalted Ruler of the Broken Tooth Tribe,
I hope this scroll and this emissary finds you in good faith. Seeing as you and I share the same edge of this realm, I propose a non-aggression pact and an alliance, to strengthen our two nations.

The King stands up and sees a boy standing at the entrance to his tent. "See that these scrolls are distributed to the two emissaries I have prepared.", the king says. The boy salutes him and leaves. The king then walks out of his tent and confronts his 1000-man army of dwarves, and addresses them. "Fellow men, today, we reclaim our ancestral lands and link back up with our fellow dwarves, and united, no one will be able to stop us!", the gathered soldiers roar in a patriotic fervor.

The Broken Tooth Tribe:
The Broken Tooth tribe had long forgotten its name. Since the fall of their chieftan, in times without memory, they had existed scattered, leaderless, and wild. None among them were sufficiently powerful or clever to unite the dispersed tribe. Patches of them skulked here and there -- within the darkest woods, among the uncaring crags, roaming the interior of the poor-soiled steppe -- scavenging and stealing and scraping an existence from out of whatever surroundings they found themselves.

Snikelfritz was unlike the other orcs: larger than those around him, craftier than them, by far, and less fearful of the more organized races. Most of all, he recognized the inherent limitations of his brethren, and knew how to use that to his advantage -- going on to gather his scattered brothers about himself and mold them into a real tribe, with a real sense of purpose. And what better purpose for an orc than war?

Present

As Snicklefritz stomped about the camp, roaring and rallying his tribesmen in preparation for a fight, two smallish orcs dragged the body of a dwarf to his feet. One of them handed him a scroll, which read:
Snicklefritz, Exalted Ruler of the Broken Tooth Tribe,
I hope this scroll and this emissary finds you in good faith. Seeing as you and I share the same edge of this realm, I propose a non-aggression pact and an alliance, to strengthen our two nations.

The orc chieftain snickered and looked down at the body of the emissary-

"Good faith"

In red ochre, Snicklefritz scrawled a message on the back of the dwarven scroll, hastily conveying contempt at the idea of any sort of cooperation, but also making clear that his sword would be seeking to whet its appetite for battle elsewhere, at least for now.

Snicklefritz also made sure his message conveyed nothing of the fear he felt in his heart for the dwarf race and their stout courage. Handing the scroll back to the two small orcs, he sent them off to deliver the message in whatever way they found appropriate. Stooping low over the dead dwarf, he reached out his knife and plucked out a number of teeth, dropping them into his pouch for safe-keeping, perhaps later to be made into a necklace, or maybe to decorate the battle standard...

"Now, boys, we march south," he growled.

Elvea-Falasse:
Quenyan for 'The Coast of Starlight', the Elven kingdom of Elvea-Falasse has from times forgotten and listless been the place where people sail towards the western continent of Aman. Since the death of High King Gil-galad in the War of the Last Alliance, an elf named Cirdan the Shipwright has led the people of Elvea-Falasse. Boundless in wisdom, with eyes that have witnessed days even secondborn elfs have never seen, he oversees the major cities of Mithlond, Forlond, and Harlond, and all the realms of elves west of the Blue Mountains. Along with the sacred duty over the western passages, Elvea-Falasse oversees the mysterious fortresses of the Western Isles, where it is said the laments of Maglor of the House of Feanor can be heard in the mystifying winds. At present, a group of elves goes to meet with the human barbarians that have migrated into South Lindon in the hopes of a friendship between the two, and the integration of the rest of South Lindon into Elvea-Falasse. Also, Elvea-Falasse sends a delegation to the Frostbeard Clan, with a proposal of alliance and friendship and a vow never to intrude on the dwarf homeland in the northern Blue Mountains.

The barbarians of Southern Lindon
The humans of Southern Lindon are suspicious enough of the elves of Northern Lindon. Those arrogant high-elves with their ships, their weapons and their medicine. When the blight came to Southern Lindon where were the elves? They sailed back to Mithlond and to Northern Lindon, leaving the small communities of men to suffer from the pestilence of the land. Many have perished from sickness and from malnutrition, and the small groups here and there unite against one banner and one goal; not to trust elves ever again.

Etyangoldi Alliance:
With a swift move the sword of Curufinwe Fallenstar killed the last dwarf of the fortress beneath the mountains of Moria. Blood spilled from the throat of the dwarf on the walls of the small ready room of the fortress, adding only to the mosaic of the other blood splatters of elf and dwarf alike that were decorating now the innards of the mountain. Some rest was now needed, especially after the perilous march up the mountains, the search for mithril, the climb on Caradhras peak, the fighting at the entrance of the fortress beneath Caradhras, the fighting on the corridors and culminating with the bloodbath on the halls of Khazad-dûm.

Interesting was also the fact that, beneath all the rubble of the fight and the dead, there was a party of dwarves with different clothes, distinct from the rest, more reddish and pompous in nature. Definitely did not belong in this wretchy harsh climate of the mountains. What that represents or who they are is a mystery right now, seeing as there's none left alive to tell the story. But ... wait ... there's a small blood trail leaving from the premises ... going through the halls ... and leaving, from where it appears to be the other side of the mountain. "I suppose that we're going to hear from them later on, if they survive ... " Curufinwe said.

"We rest today but tomorrow we're starting those machineries. You, emissary, go to the Trollshaws and tell them that we need some of their slaves to mine under these mountains. Tell them that part of the non aggression they expect from us has to be rewarded with small gestures like these. Add that trolls are not excluded from entering the Etyangoldi Alliance and watch how his eyes react to that", Curufinwe added.

In the mean time, from the riders Curufinwe sent to the four cardinal directions three have already arrived. The one to the North reported a dwarf settlement inhabiting Forochel, past the Trollshaws, the one to the west reported elves inhabiting parts of Lindon and the one to the South reported humans in Andrast and advancing in the old Pukel-Lands, uncomfortably close to the borders of the Etyangoldi Alliance.

"It seems we're surrounded on all sides by folks of every race. If I know how to take these orcs of Ettenmoors, I'm less certain of the Dwarves of Forochel and the Humans of Andrast. With the elves of Lindon I'm fairly certain that a bond exists, that transcends these petty sentiments and quarrels of who owns what in Middle Earth. Nonetheless, send an emissary to the elves of Lindon:
--- Exalted king Cirdan of the Elvea-Falasse, the elves of the Etyangoldi Alliance greet you warmly. I'm fairly sure that you have already noticed, but there's a shortage of elves living in the Middle Earth. So far, I know only of your folk and those of my alliance of elves and humans. The scarcity of our brethren means that we should stick together and offer any kind of assistance to one another. My scouts report that you even have a glorious shipyard in Mithlond with what I assume to be magnificent ships. You should consider entering the Etyangoldi Alliance and I can use your ships to sail my armies to other parts of Middle Earth, only to assume a better hold of the elvish land.

To show my benevolence, I propose that we split the lands of Eryn Vorn and Minhiriath among ourselves, and let those, and Cardolan, be the border that separates our two lands. Obviously, if you're not interested then my plan is to secure the shores and so to get both provinces for my alliance.---

Now, bring here another emissary!", and after a few moments, "Good. You will be sent to the humans of the Empire of Coldvar, with the following:
--- King Nikolai Nāves, congratulations on conquering the Pukel-Lands from the barbarian clans that resided there. Good call. The Etyangoldi Alliance has an eye on you for great potential, so we will be watching closely your next moves. A strong ally on our southern borders will mean that we can direct our attention elsewhere, as you also might have noticed, there are some really easy pickings to the east, past the White Mountains. There's also, what appears to be, a dwarf infestation. We just successfully cleared one of their outsposts deep in the mountains above the Redhorn gate. They must be stopped, they twist the fabrics of life by creating and using magical enchantments on armor, weapons, even doorways and gates. I'm sure that they even instill life in horrendous machineries, but that is still inconclusive from what we gathered so far.---", Curufinwe added, and smiled afterwards.

The scout did report that the Empire of Coldvar appears to be anti magic, so why not use this information to shape a mind? Who cares if Curufinwe himself uses enchanted armor or that he plans to use the mithril ore under the Misty Mountains to create weapons and armor imbued with magical properties? Not even his trusted advisors know the full extent of Curufinwe plans so an enemy king surely will not mind something he does not have knowledge of.

"Let's see. Slaves for the mines, alliance with the Elvea-Falasse, non-aggression pact for the time being with the humans of Coldvar ... ah, yes. And an attack on Minhiriath. Let's see what's the answer from King Cirdan on that Eryn Vorn realm ...

The Variag Order:
Looking through the scrolls and parchments on his inpromptu desk, ruler Ulwarth the First noticed no reply from the king of Rohan and from the Broken Tooth Tribe. Moreover, recent reports mentioned the Broken Tooth Tribe to have even advanced into Nurn. "It's not yet a declaration of war", Ulwarth muttered, "but it's quite close. We're going to wait for just a while longer and then we decide what to do with these two actors. Recruit some mercenaries from the Southron Oasis to guard the gap between Sutherland and Nurn while the bulk of the army is to go and unite the lands of Khand to the rest of the realm. Let's finish uniting these inhabitable lands so we can migrate north to greener pastures."

There were still some good news. The Empire of Coldvar agreed to a non aggression pact, even if there may be no common heritage between the two factions. But just to be sure, Ulwarth is going to send another message to king Nikolai Nāves:
" King Nikolai, let us use this non aggression plan as a stepping stone for our future cooperation. Perhaps we have no common ancestor, although we're both men of respect and rulers in our own right. In my previous message to you I hinted at the troubles we had in the past that brew past the Mountains of Shadow, in Gorgoroth, the magic in Mount Doom, the raids by the black forces and, obviously, the corruption, enslavement and sacrifices. I know that many of those dark chapters in our past forced good men to flee north towards Ithilien and west towards the elven shores."

The Woodland Enclave:
Some of the emissaries she dispatched a while ago to the west and to the east on the dwarf-road of Mirkwood have returned to the Woodland Enclave. They were waiting for the arrival of Barazturg in a long hall, ornated with ceremonious trinklets and decorated in red, definitely a leitmotif for the Woodland Enclave. Still waiting for the arrival of Barazturg from a hunt party, they were discussing and exchanging opinions regarding to what they saw in those distant realms, from the prosperous lands of the Iron Hills to the icy tundra and the icebays of Forochel. As Barazturg was announced to have arrived, silence fell. Its a well known fact in the Woodland Enclave that Barazturg has the first word, and one should never interrupt nor talk before her.

After formal greetings and minute talks regarding their experiences, the main idea was that both the dwarves of Forochel and the dwarves of the Iron Hills agree to working together and form an alliance. There's nothing known yet about the dwarves of Khazad-dûm and the dwarves of Blue Mountains, or if there still are any dwarves residing in those realms. Even so, the answers to the first call of unity are positive enough to warrant drafting an official alliance between the dwarf houses of the Woodland Enclave, of the Frostbeard Clan and of the Defender's Fjord.

After a few more days the final version of the draft was ready. Reading it minutiously, Barazturg took her pen and striked some words, changed some other here and there and finally exclamed "There we go. It's suitable. Send these parchments to be ratified by Leader Dralvik II of the Frostbeard Clan and by King Alexius Comnenus of the Defender's Fjord, so we enter into a formal alliance of mutual benefits, including military aid and exchanging of information."

Now Barazturg fell on darker thoughts. "The Blue Mountains are quite distant, so no news are still good news. But no reply from the High Pass and from the Redhorn Gate? Our emissaries made it back successfully from the harsh lands of Forochel ... I know, I know, there were reports of orcs and trolls roaming the lands, so maybe some ill-fate happened to the emissaries.".

After a few more moments of pondering, Barazturg added to her generals. "Let's rally our troops and move towards Anduin Vales. We'll send a party in the vanguard to investigate things before our main army arrives."

Trollshaw Realm:
Reading the news from the elves of Etyangoldi Alliance and the dwarves of the Frostbeard Clan, Torogok felt a bit trapped between hammer and anvil. Not a good feeling for a ruler, but one that further cemented his motivation. Trolls were for far too long hunted, in some places even close to extintion. So the troll legacy of Ettenmoors has to live on, and has to live on through Torogok.
"Agree, and send to Curufinwe Fallenstar a fresh batch of slaves. We need to secure at least one border," Torogok told to his loyal squire. "Our wait has served its purpose. After the destruction of the last human bastion in Rhudaur we now leave the marshes of Ettenmoors to be the breeding grounds for future generations of trolls. Our attention is now towards the lands of Angmar, for a long overdue, but well deserved, punishment for them. We'll attack tomorrow.".

Torogok was remembering some memories from his distant past. He, too, has been hunted down, captured, and tormented by the evil race of hill-men of the Iron Home. In the chaos of the fights of Mount Gundabad between the hill-men, the orcs and dwarves, Torogok fled through a hidden pass in the mountains and reached Ettenmoors yet again. He swore never to trust men and to punish them on every occasion.
"Now bring me some of that tasty two-legged food, I'm hungry!", Torogok shouted.
