Der Zweiherrscherbund

Preamble [added in AD 1782]

Der Zweiherrscherbund, or in English, the 'League of the Two Monarchs', is an agreement between the Theocratic Grand Duchy of New jewlan and the Holy Christian Empire of Dominant Oppressors [was: the Kingdom of Dominant Oppressors] that signifies that mutual strength of relations between these two great, Catholic states and their mutual willingness to aid the other. This agreement, first signed by our ancestors, Grand Duke Dermot Seamus O'Carroll and King Charles A. Vader [later: Holy Emperor Charles A. Vader], in AD 1531 as reaction to the alliance of Lutheran Nations in the neighboring Holy Roman Empire, the Schmalkaldic League, has been renewed by every New Jewlaner and Dominant Oppressorian Monarch ever since.

Article 1

In the case that a non-signatory great power invades either New jewlan or Dominant Oppressors or their protectorates, the other signatory nation is obliged to provide any military and diplomatic aid possible to the other party and get involved in the war on their side, if necessary, provided that the signatory-nation is not the aggressor.

Article 2

In the case that a non-signatory great power invades either either Old world new jewlan or Glorious Ascension or their protectorates, the other signatory power agrees to remain benevolently neutral in the conflict, provided that the aforementioned nations are not the aggressors.

Article 3

In the case that the rightful rulers of either of these nations are in someway ousted from power, the other nation is obliged to aid in returning the rightful and God-ordained House (O'Carroll & Vader, respectively) to power in any ways possibly, either militarily or diplomatically, provided they did not abdicate of their own free will.

Article 4

In the case that a non-signatory minor power invades either New jewlan or Dominant Oppressors or their protectorates, the other signatory nation is obliged to provide any military and diplomatic aid possible to the other party and get involved in the war on their side, if necessary, provided that the signatory-nation is not the aggressor.

Article 5

In the case that a non-signatory minor power invades either either Old world new jewlan or Glorious Ascension or their protectorates, the other signatory power agrees to remain benevolently neutral in the conflict, provided that the aforementioned nations are not the aggressors.

Article 6

Despite the New Jewlaner Grand Duke being officially of lower Rank than his Royal Imperial Majesty, the Holy Emperor of Dominant Oppressors [was: his Royal Majesty, the King of Dominant Oppressors], when in each other's courts or realms at large, they will be treated as if on equal standing.

Article 7

If either signatory state wishes to war with another great power, they must consulate with the other signatory nation before a declaration of war is issued [was: before going to war] against said great power.

Article 8

New jewlan, by this agreement, agrees to respect and support the growing, potential, ambitions of Dominant Oppressors in the New World. The two Courts, desirous of avoiding all discord between them, engage to take account of their respective interests in the New World.

Article 9

The signatory states mutually promise peace and friendship, and will enter into no alliance or engagement directed against any one of their States. They engage to proceed to an exchange of ideas on political and economic questions of a general nature which may arise, and they further promise one another mutual support within the limits of their own interests.

Article 10

This agreement shall stand from the date of its initial ratification until the deaths of either one of the Monarchical Signatories, following this the Treaty, shall be put up for re-ratification by the new Monarch of said signatory-nation. This process shall be repeated ad infinitum or until one of the two parties refuses to re-ratify the agreement.

Article 11

Both nations henceforth promise to remain Catholic and loyal to the One True Head of the Church, the Bishop of Rome, and additionally agree to hold back [was: suppress] any instances of the growing Protestant Movement [was: Protestant Threat] in our realms.

Article 12

If the peace of either of the Signatory Nations should chance to be threatened under the circumstances foreseen by the preceding Article, the Signatory Nations shall take counsel together in ample time as to the military measures to be taken with a view to eventual cooperation.
