Welcome to the first edition of The Cable, which aims to build communications between our embassies. You're encouraged to share this newsletter with your region-mates by posting a link on your RMB. Later we uncover the story of The Cable's inception.
May was a busy month at The Embassy. Durcane became delegate, The ambassador announced a Limerick competition, our TourAdvisor project received it's first few entries, our embassy count hit new highs, we consumed Eckie-Cola (our newest Embassy resident), we supported a novel diplomatic project, and we saw huge voter turnout at the US Presidential poll ("We had a massive crowd of people. We had a crowd… I looked over that sea of people, and I said to myself, ‘wow’, and I’ve seen crowds before. Big, big crowds. That was some crowd.”)
But if you're just thinking, "I don't care about any of this. Why did I get a notification?", then this section is for you.
An astounding 232 voters turned out to vote in the US Presidential poll. Despite claims by the candidate that the poll was "rigged", and that “people that have died 10 years ago are still voting”, Donald Trump was the winner of the poll, with 90 votes. Gob-smackingly, claims that he "won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally" turned out to have some truth. Once the 78 voters who declared "I'm not American" were excluded, Trump's 90 votes represented 58% of the total. The poll, organised by The Hanzanburg Union, had by far the largest attendence of any previous poll in The Embassy. "I won’t allow you, or other people like you, to demean that crowd."

We have a very informal governance structure at The Embassy, so after Durcane was endorsed as delegate, The ambassador couldn't help but poke a little fun, asking "Durcane has been elected delegate? What do we do?" Over two-thirds of you chose to eat popcorn, and watch as the 'constitutional crisis' played out.

🌍 TourAdvisor is the searchable, crowd-sourced guide of places to go in NS. Build the best browsable guide to the NS-verse by reviewing the places you've been, and the things that you've seen. Read our guidelines, and post your review!
The TourAdvisor project was launched on 26 April 2020, our fifth birthday. The project captured the imagination of one player, who created Dorab-gwentrev touradvisor specifically for the purpose of writing reviews. Check out their reviews of Middle Earth and The Northern Light. Meddaco has also contributed, with some commentary on The South Pacific. Independently, Sail Nation Travellers has embarked on a tour of NationStates, and we're delighted that they'll share some of the info that they pick up on their travels. Check out their travelogue here. Chief editor, another traveler is sharing their tips too!
In early May, residents of Southfield reviewed their regional relationships, and decided to close embassies with The Embassy. Our history with Southfield goes back over four years (though was interrupted twice, by raiders), so we were curious as to why they would choose to close. Foreign Affairs Minister Gujjubhai explained:
"You are an embassy collector and our relations cannot really go much further I guess since your region is not a legit government-citizen region [...] Plus, no one from Southfield was using your region and rmb to post things or there was no contact from The Embassy to Southfield in a very long time."
"There is no point in having a region open if there is no communication between us. I hope you understand."
In late May, we found ourselves in a similar discussion with Lasagna. Avonto said:
"1,5 years without communication is a bit annoying"
We rarely communicate outside of The Embassy, and our lack of communication was clearly proving to be an issue.
During a constructive conversation with Southfield, The Cable was concieved to address this lack of communication. Our embassies remain open, and Southfield resident Romagina has volunteered to post a copy on their RMB. Hopefully The Cable will be well received by other regions too.
We hit new records this month. On 25th May 2020, we had 4,755 embassies open, more than one for every five of NationStates' 23,771 regions. Our embassy count crept a little higher, but because more regions had been founded, the ratio had dropped back below one in five.
The Diplomacy Awards celebrate the foreign dignitaries that interacted with our RMB in the past month, either by making posts, or clicking 'Like'.
We think it is great to appreciate a state. This month's 'like' button bashers are:
We like to host posts, and toast those who post most. This month's prolific posters are:

We get really psyched about those who were 'liked'. This month's most praised posters are:
We can't say it straighter - you're the greater orator. This month's premiers of praises per post are:

Elsewhere in NationStates, Alienage has started an exciting project. They want to find someone on NS from every country in the world. If you're from a country or state on Alienage's dispatch, and it hasn't already been matched to a player, shout out to Alienage via our RMB. We'd love to watch as those gaps get filled in.
With thousands of embassies, it is difficult to stay in touch with them all. The Cable uses notifications as the most efficient way to share our news.
You will have received a notification if you have been mentioned somewhere in this dispatch, and have a tick in the "Dispatch mention" box of your subscriptions page.
Almost all nations mentioned will have:
- posted on our RMB during the month
- 'liked' a post on our RMB during the month
- voted in one of our polls during the month
- subscribed (specifically asked to be notified)
If you would like to subscribe, please post the word 'Subscribe' on our RMB. Thanks for your interest!
If you would prefer not to be notified in future, your choices are:
- Un-tick in the "Dispatch mention" box of your subscriptions page
- Don't interact with our RMB or polls
- Existing subscribers only: send The ambassadors reception a telegram asking to be removed as a subscriber. (Don't ask via our RMB, or it will automatically trigger another notification next time).
