XKI Summer Olympics

XKI Summer Olympics

1. Welcome

Greetings! It is my distinct pleasure as Cultural Officer to welcome to the first ever 10000 Islands Summer Olympics event. Throughout the month of June, we will be hosting a series of contests and events for Islanders to participate in focusing on a variety of different things, including NS Trading Cards, Issue answering and writing, Linkregional recruiting, story writing, and more. It'll be a choose your own adventure with enough options where something will pique everyone's interest!

Contests will be completed on behalf of teams named after the Linkthree 10000 Islands Medal of Honor recipients: Alen, Fleeb, and Anime daisuki. Additionally, each team will have a team leader selected to increase morale and encourage participation and fun-having. Team ALEN will be led by THX1138, Team Fleeb will be led by Controlitia, and Team Anime Daisuki will be led by Kuriko.

In addition, every nation who signs up for the competition, is in the WA and endorsing Delegate Kuriko (or in TITO service), and is registered on the forum will receive a free Epic NS Trading Card from our regional card farm. A full explanation of the sign up process can be found here.

The Summer Olympics is designed to be a customize-able event for all of our residents, so events will be held on the forum, Discord, and on site so that everyone will have several different opportunities to participate in different events. Additionally, you can participate in all of the events or only some of the events - there is no pressure to participate in all or any of the events if you sign up. The goal is to allow a customizable experience for each participant. It's very much a "choose your own adventure" kind of thing. A full list of events can be found here.

The Summer Olympics are coordinated by Olympics Directors HumanSanity and Grea Kriopia. Questions can be directed to each of us via telegram. In the event of a dispute, contact the Olympics Directors immediately and they will have the final say.

2. Sign Up Process

Signing up for the main event is easy! Fill out Linkthis survey to sign up and be assigned a team. It contains a set of four random question and based on your answers to these questions, event organizers Grea Kriopia and HumanSanity will assign you to a Team (please allow 24 hours for us to get to your application, since we have to do this manually and have other NS and real life obligations).

When you are assigned to a group, you will be added to the points spreadsheet (see below) and we will telegram you to confirm your group assignment.

Additionally, if you have a forum account, we will give you access to the Linkprivate planning area for your team so that you can participate in team planning, discussions, and spirit events.

Sign up begins May 25th but will continue throughout the event. So even if you're worried that you might be "late to the party", you can still join in for the later stages of the Olympics!

3. Points

Teams will compete in different events and participation criteria in order to earn "points". The team at the end of the event with the most points will win.

Points for the event will be displayed on Linkthis spreadsheet in a live tally.

There are two kinds of points: Participant Points and Event Points.

3.1. Participant Points
Participant points are awarded for each team member as follows:

  • Participation: one point awarded per nation for signing up for the event.

  • World Assembly: one point awarded if the nation is in the World Assembly and endorsing Delegate Kuriko or a member of TITO.

  • Forum membership: one point will be awarded if the nation is a forum member. An additional point will be awarded if you are a new forum member (meaning you had not joined the forum in advance of the competition.

After the Olympics Directors sort new sign ups into teams, they will also list the participant points on the LinkParticipant Points tab of the spreadsheet.

If something changes in how your participant points should be calculated at any time (e.g. you sign up for the forum or join the WA), then telegram HumanSanity or Grea Kriopia and we will update your points.

Lastly, all nations who earn at least one point in each category (Participation, World Assembly, and Forum membership) will receive a free Epic NS Trading Card

3.2. Event Points
Event points are awarded on an event-by-event basis. Sometimes they will be awarded for whole team effort. Other times they will be awarded for individual nations' efforts. It all depends on the structure of the event.

When each event ends, HumanSanity or Grea Kriopia will update the LinkEvent Points tab of the spreadsheet.

4. Events

During the Summer Olympics, we will be running a variety of events and this Dispatch will serve as the authoritative and comprehensive listing of all of the events. We will hold two kinds of events: Team Spirit events and Competitive events.

4.1. Team Spirit

4.2. Competitive

The runner up team will receive 25 points. The losing team will receive no points.

  • LinkSummer Olympic Prolific Posting Contest: By default when you enter the Summer Olympics, you will be entered into the forum prolific posting contest! The winning set will earn 40 points for their team, the runner up will earn 20 points, and any number of "honorable mentions" will receive 10 points each. Additionally, the winner will receive a free Legendary NS Trading Card and each runner up and honorable mention will receive a Epic NS Trading Card.

  • LinkIssue Writing Contest: The Issue Writing Contest will encourage Teams to collaboratively work on a NationStates issue. Submissions are due June 25 and will be judged by Issue author and Friend of XKI Candensia. • Sixth Annual Hahiha Contest for Nation Creation: The Cultural Office has teamed up with Taco Island Charities to host the Sixth Annual Hahiha Contest for Nation Creation this year! Point and taco prizes are available for the top placing nations!

  • LinkResistance Olympics Version - Scooby Doo, Where Are You!: Participants will compete in Resistance, a game similar to Werewolves, as either the famous ‘Mystery, Inc.’ or Spies trying to undermine the investigation. • Link10000 Islands Jeopardy: The XKI Jeopardy event will encourage Teams to brush up on their general knowledge of the 10000 Islands. • Short Story Contest: Participants will submit a short story up to 2500 words long involving the word mixture to be read by our judges. 1st place receives 50 points for their team, 2nd receives 25, and Honorable Mention gets 5.

  • LinkTeam Debates: Each debate will feature a two-person team representing their Summer Olympics Team arguing either for or against the resolution proposed for the debate. Debates will be hosted on the 10000 Islands forum and judged by guest judges. The winner of each debate will receive 15 points for their team.

  • LinkScavenger Hunt: On the forum, we will be hosting two different scavenger hunts for Olympic Points. First, we will be reactivating the Scavenger Hunt plugin to spawn Olympic Rings at random for individuals to find. Second, we will be strategically hiding Olympic Rings in forum threads to encourage deeper reading into the forum. Points will be awarded based on the number of Rings found, not just to winners, so even a little work will go a long way for your team!

5. Incentives

Depending on their overall placement, each team will receive various NS Trading Card and Taco rewards.

The winning team will receive half a million tacos distributed evenly across all of the forum members on the team. Additionally, thirty random Legendary NS Trading Cards from the regional Legendaries collection will be raffled out to members of the winning team, with each team member receive a chance to win the raffle equal to the number of points they contributed to the team (maximum 3 cards per team member; for group efforts we will make our best approximation). Additionally, each member of the winning team will receive an additional free Epic NS Trading Card.

The runner up team will receive 100,000 Tacos distributed evenly across all of the forum members on the team. Additionally, ten random Legendary NS Trading Cards from the regional Legendaries collection will be raffled out to members of the runner up team, with each team member receive a chance to win the raffle equal to the number of points they contributed to the team (maximum 3 cards per team member; for group efforts we will make our best approximation).

For the last place team, five random Legendary NS Trading Cards from the regional Legendaries collection will be raffled out to members of the runner up team, with each team member receive a chance to win the raffle equal to the number of points they contributed to the team (maximum 1 card per team member; for group efforts we will make our best approximation).
