EVENING MALAFEEV:
INTERVIEW WITH PM
CANDIDATE YURIY ILLYUSHIN

Yuriy Illyushin is running on a platform restructuring the tax system and increasing public services.

This is Evening Malafeev with your host Denis Malafeev

(Denis Malafeev): Good evening you are listening to Evening Malafeev on SNC Radio. As you are all probably aware by now, election season is in full swing after the shock resignation of the current Prime Minister Timofey Shevelyok. Three names have been put forward to become Romanovskaya's next Prime Minister and tonight I have one of them here. Mr. Yuriy Illyushin has been a member of the Imperial Duma since 2009 and has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2016. Mr. Illyushin welcome to the program.

(Yuriy Illyushin): Thank you Denis.

(Denis Malafeev): Why do you want to become the next Prime Minister?

(Yuriy Illyushin): I believe that I am the only candidate for the office of Prime Minister offering positive change in this election. With all due respect to my colleague Deputy Shchegolyayeva, she represents the same old policies this nation has known for quite a long time. She has been Minister of Finance since 2005 I believe?

(Denis Malafeev): (checks notes). Yes that is correct.

(Yuriy Illyushin): Right, so quite a long time now. I believe its time to diversify our economy and give more to our citizens rather than foreign multinationals.

(Denis Malafeev): Well to be fair to Ms. Shchegolyayeva the economy has performed very well under her stewardship and you know well that there is more to the national economy than foreign multinationals, our native industry for example is very strong given the nations small size.

(Yuriy Illyushin): You are correct that Deputy Shchegolyayeva has done a good job as finance minister. However I do believe there is a need to address the balance between the benefits of multinationals and our own citizens. We see public spending continually kept to a minimum for many years now. People are crying out now for us to use our wealth and invest it in our nation and our people!

(Denis Malafeev): What about your own performance as Minister of Foreign Affairs? Do you feel you have done a good job?

(Yuriy Illyushin): Well I would like to think I have done well. Romanovskaya is well thought of around the globe, we have made many new connections with various other states. We have quite a number of embassies functioning as we speak to serve Romanovans wherever they may find themselves.

(Denis Malafeev): Perhaps one criticism would be the lack of progress made with regards to relations with our southern neighbour?

(Yuriy Illyushin): There has not been as much progress in that regard no. Not as much as I would have liked anyways. We have not seen anything from the Moscow Government to suggest they are interested in talking to us. Certainly I know of efforts made to contact them have fallen on deaf ears.

(Denis Malafeev): Has your department tried to contact the Moscow Government ?

(Yuriy Illyushin): No, however I was made aware by the Office of the Sovereign that the Princess herself did contact the Moscow Government.

(Denis Malafeev): Was there a response? What was the subject matter of the letter?

(Yuriy Illyushin): I am not in a position to share the subject of the letter, that would be up to the Princess. As far as I am aware there has been no response from the Moscow Government.

(Denis Malafeev): Finally Mr. Illyushin do you have a message for the Romanovan voters?

(Yuriy Illyushin): I want to appeal to everyone who wishes to see a more fair nation, where no matter what background, our children can go onto achieve their maximum potential. A vote for me and those who have endorsed me for PM will allow us to execute the necessary policies to put Romanovans first over big business.

(Denis Malafeev): Thank you.

End
