ThV0550 Bobcat 105 anti-tank vehicle
ThV0550 Bobcat 105 anti-tank vehicle
The ThV0550 Bobcat 105 anti-tank vehicle was manufactured by Boxmer Auto (later Boxmer-Lidly Defense, now Fossen-Highpowder Corporation) in Springmont. It was created with the intent of expanding the lethality of the existing ThV0550 Bobcat, by replacing the main armament with a model capable of delivering heavier payloads over longer distances, and defeating virtually any operational or projected armored vehicle at the time. Though perhaps even more important than the firepower offered by a ADAX 105 mm gun was the ubiquity of its ammunition. It was considered that the market would be more receptive to a reconnaissance vehicle/tank destroyer armed with a 105 mm gun than a smaller 76 mm gun.
The system is electrically operated. The ROGEL smoke grenades form a dense protective smokescreen, which can be sustained using an exhaust smoke generator. The digital fire control system takes data from a suite of sensors and provides an automatic fire control solution. Automatic data input includes target range from a laser rangefinder, target speed and direction derived from tracking the target, crosswind speed, weapon tilt, and the characteristics of the weapon. Manual data input includes ammunition type and environmental data. The fire control system allows the Bobcat to engage enemy targets while on the move across rough terrain. The time between laser ranging the target and firing is approximately two seconds. Three variations of fire directing systems are offered. The most complex system incorporates a primary stabilized gunner's sight, automatic computation and implementation of ballistic offset of the weapon, electro-mechanical gun control, stabilized the main weapon, gunner's sight with day/night channel slaved to the main weapon and an independent panoramic commander's sight.
The fire control system is the Grossblair Electronics Casspir-199, also fitted on the Skorpion main battle tank, which includes a digital ballistic computer. The gunner's station is fitted with a stabilized sight with a thermal imager and laser rangefinder. The commander's station is equipped with a panoramic stabilized sight, an image intensifying night sight and a monitor displaying the image from the gunner's thermal sight.
Bobcat also equip with Gunslinger-2020 protection system. Fossen-Highpowder and Grossblair Electronics Gunslinger-2020 protection system rapidly detects, tracks, classifies, determines the optimal interception point and finally neutralizes the threat away form the armored vehicle. Neutralization of the threat can be done using a countermeasure. Thus, armored fighting vehicles protected by Gunslinger-2020 get increased survivability. The protection system itself consists of a search radar with four flat-panel antennas and several sensors located all together around the armored vehicle. This way the system provides full hemispherical coverage.
Heronbridge Optronics provide Bobcat family with ESSEL system. ESSEL (Electro-optical Sighting Stabilized Equipment-Light) enables accurate engagement of targets while on the move, both day and night and under conditions of limited visibility. Perfect for high-end combat vehicles, ESSEL stabilized electro-optical sensor system is a compact digital fire control unit. Featuring dual-axis stabilization, the ESSEL can be mounted without difficulty to any suitable surface on the vehicle. It is equipped with a thermal imaging device, a daytime camera and an eye-safe laser rangefinder. All the data necessary for evaluating the situation appear on a display conveniently located in the interior of the vehicle. Apart from the target, these include the system status, range and type of ammunition.
The vehicle is equipped with an NBC overpressure device buat a collective ventilated face mask system can be installed as an alternative.
