The United Nations is an Earth-based international government that administers Earth and her colonies throughout the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. The set goals of the government organization is as follows: maintain international peace and security; develop friendly national relations; achieve international cooperation; and be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations. It is the largest and most represented government internationally, with sole exceptions for large empires.
Its headquarters is located inside of international territory in The Hague, Netherlands, Earth after its relocation to that office. It holds major offices in its previous location of New York City, United States, Earth, as well as Geneva, Switzerland, Earth; Nairobi, Kenya, Earth; and Vienna, Austria, Earth. It also holds major locations off of Earth. These locations include Luna, Mars, the Jovian Moons, Eiro, Threshold, and Reach. Aside from these office locations, an embassy and minor office are held within every member state, and every member state is represented within these.
The UN was established after the end of the Second World War of Earth. Its aim was to prevent future warfare, which the preceding League of Nations failed to accomplish in the rise of World War II. In 25 April 1945, 50 national governments met in the city of San Francisco, USA, Earth to attend a conference and begin drafts for the UN Charter. Pursuant to the Charter, the organization's objectives include maintaining international peace and security, protecting human rights, delivering humanitarian aid, promoting sustainable development, and upholding international law throughout Earth's nations. The official founding occurred on 24 October 1945, which hosted 51 member states. In 2011, the number grew to 193, representing the vast majority of Earth's sovereign states.
During its early missions, the UN was hindered of its ability to promote world peace due to the rising tensions between many nations, especially the United States and the then-Soviet Union, which included their allies. Its missions were primarily the occupation of warring nations by unarmed military observers and lightly-armed troops. Their roles were to monitor, report, and build confidence, which continues to be its main role to this day. They were successful in their roles - widespread decolonization in the 1960s allowed UN membership to drastically grow, and with the end of the Cold War in 1991, the organization accepted a multitude of international tasks after freeing most colonies and unrecognized sovereign states.
More missions were taken by the organization in 4 years than had been taken in 4 decades. Assembly and Council resolutions drastically increased, and peacekeeping budgets increased more than tenfold. Interventions were led in warring regions worldwide, though many were unsuccessful due to national politics, restrictions on their actions [leading to power and land grabs], mismanagement, and corruption. Secretary-General Antonio Guterrez and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom's involvement and bias within post-Eastern Bloc and communist nations, such as Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and China, led the United Nations and what it stood for astray. Their successors, [imagine a list of names here], further corrupted the organization and, subsequently, the world.
This is one of the most cited reasons for World War III, the Neo-Koslovic and Frieden War, Interplanetary War, or Rainforest War of the 2120s. UN corruption and ties drew out the battle plans and played right into the hands of powerful leaders. Their intervention made the situation worse, as it directly fed the Koslovics with everything they could ever need for the war and thereafter. Everything from oil, ammunition, and automotives to money and food, stripped from the International Monetary Fund, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, and other alliances respectively, especially the United States because of the sitting president. Civilian populations were kept beneath smoke and mirrors, with many nations having their own civil wars. The Northwest Secessionist Force formed in the northwest United States, eventually taking Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, and Baja Mexico by the end of their war. A major earthquake, caused by several small-yield nuclear weapons exploding along the San Andreas Fault line, pushed the city of Los Angeles and everything west of it into the Pacific Ocean, and the loss of the entire western seaboard to the NSF crippled the United States.
Other civil wars included the Brazilian Coup, leading to its capture, Bolivia's capture, and their holding by the Koslovics; the Baffinian Secession from Canada; Russia's loss of Kaliningrad to the Baltic Union; the Second Yemeni Civil War and its Frieden alignment; the formation of the North American Union after the Fall of Central America; the finalization of the Dissident Irish Republican Campaign; the Australian Rebellion [against an Orwellian government]; the Attacks on the Jovian Colonies and Embassy Assault; and the Martian Argyre Planitia Massacre.
The Koslovic funding came to a sharp close after the Friedens and the Jovian Confederation assassinated the UN leader and several top generals within Russian and Chinese ranks. The tide of the war moved to the South American jungles and Earth's atmosphere, which was the worst location of the war, attributing to it the "Rainforest War". This was because Brazil had become the center of militarization and had been since the Coup of 2103, so most top generals relocated to Brazil, with their soldiers following along.
Eventually, an international coalition was formed between the North American states [excluding baffinia], the Frieden states, several east Asian states, and several African unions. The Koslovic claims on Mars were pushed back during the Martian Rebellion, while Brazil fell on Earth. The Dominican Republic, which had turned Koslovic, was a small-time issue cleaned up through diplomatic means. With the fall of the Koslovic Empire, Earth and her colonies could rebuild...
International outrage and distrust with the organization went out among the population, and nobody could blame them - The United Nations needed to be reformed after its less-than-subtle deceptive practices. A new leader was elected in war-torn Europe after the Treaty of Alexiares-Anicetus, named for the Guardians of Olympus, along with the Unified Earth Government. Its purpose was to administer Earth after the war until the Earth was rebuilt. Nations could become independent over time as they saw fit. The organization slowly helped to rebuild, and trust was regained. UN involvement in colonization and international politics was restored with the rise of its new divisions. As of 2193, the UN has regained its place as the most widely-recognized government among humanity.
Within its divisions, there are 3 main chambers and 7 different divisions, which also contain their own subdivisions relating to that role. The chambers include the General Secretariat, the General Assembly, and the Security Council. The Secretariat hosts the Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-General, assigned by election and presidency of the North American Union respectively. The GA is the main deliberative, policy-making, and representative organ of the UN. It allows for nations to represent themselves on the international stage and vote on issues. The SC ensures international peace and security, via force if necessary to liberate troubled groups. It allows for nations to vote on national condemnations and organize military interventions and forces.
The divisions include the Economic and Social Council, the United Nations Space Defense Force, the United Nations Colonial Expeditionary Force, the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition, the International Criminal Police Organization, the International Court of Justice, and the Colonial Health Organization. The ECOSOC is responsible for coordinating economic and social fields, allowing economic cooperation with external industries and companies, and formulating opinions and resolutions for international economic and social issues. The International Court of Justice is the highest court within the United Nations. It settles national and international disputes alike in accordance with universal law, coupled with providing opinions on such subjects on a case-by-case basis in an attempt to resolve disputes quicker.
The UNSDF is the military arm of the United Nations and the overseer of all military operations in space and in-atmosphere. After the Interplanetary War of the 2120s, which was the final clash between old political ideologies and the subsequent near-collapse of Earth and her colonies, it defeated the Friedens and Koslovics, though they still exist as military alliances. UNATCO was formed in response to the collapse of the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance as an international organization aimed at stopping terrorism. The UNCEF was formed just before these events as Earth's colonization force to combat overpopulation and political and national expansion. It still serves this same purpose.
The assimilation of the International Criminal Police Organization into the UN came after the Interplanetary War, as did the World Health Organization's. Interpol, per its motto, facilitates the connection police from every nation to create a safer home. It provides investigative support, expertise, and training to law enforcement internationally, as well as providing police aid in locations domestic police cannot or when military intervention is blocked. The World Health Organization, renamed the Universal Health Organization, establishes that its main objective as attaining, by all people, the highest level of health possible. It advocates for international healthcare, monitoring public health risks, coordinating responses to health emergencies, and promoting human health and wellbeing.
In the aftermath of the Human-Eliksni War, which left the Eliksnio fractured and humanity a little less unified, the United Nations and human countries considered their assets and losses. The idea of a newer, unified defense proved to be a good idea among most delegates and leaders alike, especially after what had been observed. This sparked the devising and creation of the United Nations Interstellar Military & Peace Task Force.
definitely never do that
Membership in the United Nations is open to all nations, should they abide by all resolutions and attempt to make peace. It is in the judgment of the General Assembly and executive leadership that a nation be permitted to join if they see that a nation can carry out its obligation to abide. The Security Council and the Economic & Social Council both review the candidate to ensure this. However, state recognition is a power only other states may hold.
Once recognized, it means that the nation is ready to receive aid or support other nations. The UN executive leadership cannot recognize a nation themselves. Its main job is to make executive decisions and lead the UN through judicial rulings. Candidates to join the UN go through this process:
The leader of a state wishing to join the UN submits an application to the Secretary-General and a letter that formally certifies the state will accept all obligations under the 1945 Charter and 2127 Remission.
The Security Council and executive leadership consider the request, then allowing votes to be cast by the General Assembly on whether the state may join or not if the SC allows it.
The General Assembly must reach a vote of 2/3 or higher in order for a state to be admitted. Membership is effective the day of acceptance, and the national representative is brought into the international capital. A period of 90 days is required to pass before the nation may join the Security Council or Economic & Social Council.
