The Apsychia is a main battle tank developed by Mucero in the 1970s for the Diarcesian Mundana Forces. It is the successor to the defunct Scorpion main battle tank, itself derived from the French AMX 30 tank. The Apsychia variants continue to use its own AMX-series numbering.

The tank featured an all new front armor and was the first of its kind for a vehicle of local manufacture. In an urban configuration, it is heavily armored, protected by a full complement of heavy firepower, and with the applicable modules, is the Diarcesian vehicle of its kind to be specifically designed for jungle warfare. The Apsychia AMX44 variant is the first to be equipped with the 6RCS and ECM3 active protection systems and also the first to be fully integrated with the M113 Medium Multi-Role Movement System[3].

History
Prior to the start of the Great Schism of tank philosophies, the prototype of what would become the Apsychia was in storage at the Mucero RT Research and Development Center. During one of the testing runs, the prototype, modified from a Scorpion tank hull, was destroyed. Plans were made to build another prototype but funding was never found for a few years, until a government study revealed the need for additional firepower to cities surrounded by jungle, a common setting in southern Diarcesia.

Following the successful completion of their initial qualification tests, Mucero was awarded a contract by the government and were now ready to take part in Diarcesia's military hardware refresh of the 1980s. The first parade was held in Arcesius.

Design
The tank's hull bears a strong resemblance to that of the earlier Scorpion, though the Scorpion's S695 chassis has been completely redesigned. The S695 has been given a modernized appearance with a new composite armor structure and a larger air intake. The tank's power is provided with an all-new engine designed for the M113 platform. For additional crew protection, their compartment is separated from the ammunition.

To address some of the issues main battle tanks would face in both jungle and urban warfare, a recommended maximum added weight of 18 tons of armor can be attached and detached to the vehicle if used as a spearhead. Diarcesian applic armor can be usually installed in 20 minutes. When speed is the leading concern in the field, a lightly-armored tank configuration can be used in flanking maneuvers against targets where additional firepower is needed. Wide tracks help reduce the ground pressure caused and lessen the chance of the vehicle being stuck. To cope with the confined spaces of the battlefield, the main gun's autoloader is designed to allow the main gun to fire 12 rounds in one minute. Complementing its mobility, 360-degree imaging sensors such as seismic, thermal, ambient sound, infrared, and image recognition are fitted.

Its transmission and suspension designs are largely carried over and modernized from the Scorpion, helping drive down the government's total cost of upgrading part of its main battle tank fleet.

The current variants employ active protection systems ensure that the time and resources spent when repairing damaged armor is minimized. For traversing difficult terrain, combined-radius obstacle avoidance and evasion systems are used.

The combination of 6RCS and ECM3 active protection systems include active radar, cruise missile countermeasures, sonar, and top attack protection.

Variants
AMX44
AMX45: Latest Diarcesian variant with 6RCS/ECM3 and obstacle avoidance/evasion and 360-degree sensors.
AMX46: Regne Espanya variant. Same as AMX45 except with the 360-degree sensors removed.

Other Technical Data
Ground clearance: 353 mm
Fuel type: Diesel
Maximum reverse speeds:
60.63 kph (on road)
41.15 kph (off road)

Flaws
The tank has been known for having issues with cooling.
The turret being located towards the rear forces the tank to have a front-engine arrangement.

Notes
1. A confidential type of ceramic compound.
2. An armor material containing inward-facing micro-welds.
3. A platform for medium and main battle tanks and other military vehicles of similar size with a stated goal of vehicles taking advantage of modular components and armor.
