Cassidy Flannery 'Gwendolyn' Pickett (March 15, 2037) is an American revolutionary and programmer who is serving as the Captain-General of the Confederate-Continental Citizen-Forces. Before the Collapse, Pickett was an elected 'Grand Wizard' of the Redshirts paramilitary, a position he held as his 'Young Hickory' persona. Ideologically both a white nationalist and revolutionary syndicalist, Pickett developed 'Pickettian Democracy', a successor to Jeffersonian, Jacksonian, and Websterite Democracies.
Born to a working-class, traditionally Democrat family, Pickett embraced his father's politics to a more radical degree. Dropping out from the University of Pennsylvania and expelled from the Community College of Philadelphia for his political views, he became a dedicated revolutionary, leading the Redshirts paramilitary which he founded. Gradually, he rose up the ranks of the shadow Democratic Party and achieved immortality through corporate espionage around the time of the Partition. During the Partition, he led the Redshirts and later the Minutemen against both the Partition Era states and their paramilitaries. This culminated with the 2nd American Revolution and Risorgimento, where the RCAS was founded before reunifying America. He also oversaw the Ascension, where America was demographically, economically, and politically transformed into a syndicalist, immortal nation dominated by an overwhelmingly white majority.
Afterwards, Pickett retired from active politics, though his military position was retained. He would return to active service as Captain-General during the Great Spacer War and 2nd Bush War as well as participating in various proxy war campaigns. He also started a prolific programming career, especially in developing video games.
Pickett has been widely revered for both being an advocate for the common man and democracy as well as reviving the nation from a collapsed state to a superpower. However, some intellectual circles, especially influenced by Brazil, Azania, and China, have condemned Pickett for his blatantly white nationalist policies against racial minorities. The ethnic diaspora of those minorities have lobbied nations across the world to end trade and relations with the RCAS. Pickett also has been criticized for his conduct during the Risorgimento, both in encouraging extralegal mob violence at the hands of the Minutemen, militia, and Redshirts as well as his unprofessional conduct.
Cassidy Pickett was born in Jefferson, Pennsylvania on March 15, 2037. His father, Connor Pickett, was an ex-steelworker from Northeast Philadelphia, while his mother, Isabelle, was a Pittsburgh-area native. Connor was a labor organizer of the United Steelworkers union and a heavily partisan Websterite Democrat who was fired from his job since the General Strike of 2018, often promoting his views to his son. Cassidy was their only child. When he was 2, Cassidy was struck with a great illness which nearly killed him. However, he survived the illness with a complete recovery after being hospitalized. From an early age of 2, he learned how to read due to having a huge interest in picture books and was already playing video games.
At the age of 5, Pickett went to McClellan Elementary School. Already a bookworm and tinkering with his very own desktop, he found himself bullied by other students due to his diminutive size, physical weakness, shy demeanor, and even his name. Despite the school's attempts to stop the bullying, it continued regardless. Still, the bullying only became serious when he went to Pleasant Hills Middle School. It got to the point where Pickett occasionally avoided school to avoid the bullying. The school administration there had a more apathetic attitude to bullying, due to many of Pickett's bullies being star athletes as well as some of them being racial minorities. His father, fed up with the bullying after his son revealed it to him, decided to try to teach Cassidy the virtues of toughness, training him to fight his own battles against them.
Cassidy recounted the moment he was done training. "When my dad come up to me, while I was exhausted from training, he placed a hand on my shoulder. 'Son, I think you're ready.' I responded by jumping into his arms, my eyes bright with enthusiasm, 'Really?' He nodded, "Yeah, son! You're going to kick them into the curb!' I then jumped and skipped as he led me back to my house, despite my fatigue, and I declared, 'You and I are going to whip every damn Republican in this state when we're done with them, dad!' He simply laughed with joy, never contradicting what I said."
During his middle school years, Pickett also started to gain an interest in history. He would eagerly read about the tales of the America of yore, especially about the Civil War. From figures like Custer and Stuart to battles like the Alamo to revolts like the Whiskey Rebellion, Pickett was both fascinated and nostalgic for the history he was reading. He even started to grow his hair out and hoped to grow a beard. There was a deep insecurity that he didn't live up to the legacy of those men; that he was too weak to be free. Yet, his training with his father made him more confident in himself. Still, his attempt at joining a Civil War reenactment society failed when the society was shut down for portraying Confederates.
The first year of high school was the apex of Pickett's bullying. He went to Lincoln High, and the high-school cliques that dominated student life wore down on him. There was also an influx of blacks and Hispanics into the area, which corresponded with a more diverse school population as well as racial tensions and cliques. With his father's training, Pickett decided to fight back against his bullies, doing so at an incident near a grocery store. When one of his assailants shoved him, Pickett responded by kicking him on the crotch. Despite his training however, the bullies quickly overwhelmed Pickett and had beaten him up, leaving him battered and bruised.
After returning home crying and covered in bruises, Pickett decided to abandon fighting his bullies head on in a physical manner. He started to avoid school occasionally and avoided contact with any other students except for the drama club, where he performed in theater. "I was a completely different person at the school theater," Pickett wrote, "And, I can excuse everything I did by saying I was in-character. It was liberating." Still, he spent a lot of his time reading, browsing the web, and playing video games. Yet, something inspired him about the incident.
Pickett wrote in his diary: "I thought about his girlfriend, who was popular at school. She's almost just like me. She has red hair, a pale complexion, blue eyes. She's nearly as short as I am and just as skinny. Yet, he treated her like a queen and I like dirt. It's obvious that the reason I am hated is because I am a guy with a feminine body."
From there, Pickett started to crossdress in private, keeping a hidden stash of outfits in his room. He made plans to dress up as a girl for the rest of his years at high school, though the prospect terrified him due to his heterosexuality. Still, he found some enjoyment in the act, feeling more 'true to himself'. Pickett also shaved the faint facial hair which grew on his face. Ultimately, his parents found out during his second year.
Upon hearing of his justification during the ensuing argument, they decided to allow him to go through with his plan, except he would be sent to a private boarding school in the Old Richmond neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia. He attended the school as a girl, working a minimum wage job as an IT worker for an office to help pay for tuition. To both Pickett and his family's surprise, the plan worked, with none of the staff or student body knowing of his secret. He graduated as a student of the class of 2055 with exceptional grades, though his PE performance was abysmal.
Due to his exceptional grades, Pickett was given a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania. His time in the university was miserable however, due to his disdain and disconnect with the wealthy student body. This combined with the heavy workload led to Pickett dropping out after a year of attendance. His time in university was also when he first encountered the New Left, giving him a negative impression of the movement which would solidify with the establishment of the Socialist Commonwealth.
During this time, Pickett also developed an online presence making mods and indie games as well as open source programs. He contributed to around 117 open-source projects and was a programming prodigy. Pickett even developed his own distribution for the Linux operating system that had complete compatibility with Windows software, Cherryx. He also ran a lifestyle blog under the pseudonym 'Gwendolyn', a name he'd adopt as his middle name.
Pickett met the tall, buxom pornstar and narco-thug Val 'Siri' Garcia during the first year of college, after wandering accidentally into the ghettos of West Philadelphia. Val, loitering in a street corner, found the out of place college student and questioned him. After offering 'protection', she accidentally found out his 'secret', which she eagerly enjoyed immediately afterwards. The two proceeded to date each other afterwards.
Pickett's revolutionary history began during high school, when he was involved with radical leftist forums and discussion boards. His views were not the norm there, and he was frequently restricted and banned from websites for them. Still, he attempted to visit the meetings of the Trotskyist group 'the Spart' during his time in university. Both reviled for his views and personally disgusted at the sympathies towards black causes, Pickett left the organization, upset that there was no organization for pro-white radical leftists, especially those from rural and suburban areas. This was when he started to frequent imageboards. There his views started to become popular among the largely Websterite Democrat political culture. His 'Young Hickory' persona started to form during this time.
Pickett then attempted to form a Democratic Party student club in the University of Pennsylvania, but the group was shut down due to accusations of racism. This embittered Pickett, who instead focused on his online pursuits. His 'Young Hickory' online persona grew popular, attracting tens of thousands of followers despite being censored from the mainstream Internet. Emboldened by this, Pickett attempted to organize a rally in an Irish pub in Fishtown in 2061, wearing a red bandana and keeping up his Young Hickory persona. However, Antifa and Black Lives Matter attacked the rally in the Battle of Fishtown, revealing Pickett's identity in public. He was expelled from the University of Pennsylvania. Effectively a college dropout and a laughing stock to the world, Pickett attempted to return to his parents. However, his parents were ambushed, robbed, and murdered by a gang of blacks as they went to pick Cassidy up. His mother in particular was raped before her execution.
Devastated by his family's death and ostracization in public life, Pickett retired his 'Young Hickory' persona and lived as a recluse for two years. For his own safety, he fled to West Virginia, where Val paid for a house for the two to live in.
However, he was recruited by the shadow Democratic Party, who had seen his work in Philadelphia and saw in him a 'fall-guy': someone who'd run a fringe organization to vet potential recruits. Pickett, along with veterans from the 'Battle of Fishtown', formed the Redshirts on July 2063, with Pickett being elected as one Grand Wizard of the Committee of Grand Wizards. The small Redshirt movement was initially clandestine, having mostly an internet presence.
Things changed as automation and the ensuing economic crisis created a volatile political climate. The Redshirts fought against Antifa, criminal gangs, Black Lives Matter rioters, and the Whiteshirts, the Republican Party's paramilitary. To the surprise of the Democratic Party, Pickett became a widely renowned symbol due to his unique cavalier image and his role in fighting against the riots happening in major cities. Unions made a resurgence, with Redshirts assisting strikes and factory occupations. Pickett himself grew more bold and courageous in public, growing a mustache and goatee to fit the new image. On January 2068, Pickett led a group of Redshirts to seize an abandoned factory in West Virginia, renovating it to the headquarters of the Redshirt movement.
In the 2070s, Pickett discovered a secret project of the billionaire, Edwin Hudson. Hudson planned to install his brain into a secure vat and create synthetic bodies of himself. He also discovered plans to rule the Las Vegas area in the face of an inevitably collapsing United States. With this knowledge and a fear of aging himself, Pickett, with the help of the Redshirts and hacked construction robots, constructed the Hermitage in Mount Jefferson, a secret bunker that would contain his brain. On the year of America's partition in 2077, Pickett ascended into immortality, also creating 'Fiddler's Green', a virtual world that was an extension of his Hermitage. Val was also given this form of immortality, though she wasn't connected to any supercomputer. She guarded the Hermitage during the Partition Era and aided the guerilla campaigns.
However, Pickett didn't run directly in any elections, instead supporting more moderate Democrats in the elections of 2084 in the Socialist Commonwealth. However, the Democratic Party was shortly banned after winning local and state elections in several states. Enraged by this, Pickett and the other Grand Wizards of the Redshirts rallied their supporters in Charleston. There, Pickett took the podium and urged the angered Redshirts to seize the state of West Virginia. Redshirts, agreeing with Pickett, marched towards the State Capitol. However, Antifa militants, armed by the government, fought against the Redshirts until government troops arrived to crackdown on the revolt. A couple of the Grand Wizards died, while several more were arrested along with nearly a hundred Redshirts.
Over the next 30 years, Pickett engaged in a guerilla campaign against the Partition Era states, while his true location in Mount Jefferson was hidden. The Redshirts evolved from a paramilitary force into the Minutemen, with Pickett being elected Captain-General. Bases and strongholds for the Neo-Confederate forces were built along Appalachia and the Rockies. Pickett himself was elected as the commander of the Minutemen, leading them personally. Meanwhile, moderate Democrats posed as candidates of the ruling Progressive Party, while harboring sympathies for Pickett and the Redshirts.
Pickett led the Minutemen against the Mexican invasion of the Southwest, assisting the Free Southwestern States despite ideological differences. Their arrival lifted the Siege of Phoenix, while locals known as 'Cowboys' rallied to the Confederate cause. With the Mexicans overwhelmed by a coalition of American forces, the Minutemen launched an offensive deemed 'Pickett's 2nd Charge'. However, the forces of the United States and the Free Southwestern States refused to aid the offensive, leading to the offensive being stopped. In anger, Pickett ordered the Minutemen to withdraw from the Southwest. However, this sparked dissent within their ranks, with the majority of the Minutemen voting to continue their efforts to defend the Southwest. Faced with a possible recall election, Pickett relented. However, the Mexicans launched Operation Santa Anna, which decisively defeated the American Coalition forces.
2117 would be the year the Partition Era began its end, as election results were disputed between the Democratic Party and the Socialist Commonwealth. Pickett sparked protests against the Socialist Commonwealth when he revealed that the government have been manipulating election results electronically. This led to protests against the Socialist Commonwealth. On February, Pickett led a contingent of armed revolutionaries in a coup against the Socialist Commonwealth government, declaring them to be 'undemocratic fake socialists'. New elections were held after the 'February Revolution' which returned Democratic majorities. An assassination attempt was made on Pickett on his birthday on March 15 by the black nationalist Tyrone Brown, who gunned down Pickett in a drive-by shooting. This was when Pickett announced his immortality publicly to the world and personally executed the assassin on a livestream via hanging.
The 'Redemption' of the North soon led to the Risorigmento, as the Republic of Confederate American States and Syndicates was formed and declared on July 4th, 2117. The rump United States then declared war on the RCAS. The 'Confederate North' fought against the 'Union South' in the 2nd American Civil War, with Pickett leading the Continental-Confederate Citizen Forces. On October 26th, unions and militias in the Pacific Union and Southwestern Free States rose up in revolt against the Chinese-backed and libertarian governments respectively in the October Revolution. Meanwhile, American backed Quebecois nationalists and republicans fought against Canadian royalists in the Canadian Civil War. After 3 years, the RCAS annexed all of Canada except for Quebec, reunited America, and took parts of Mexico in the Treaty of Columbia.
Pickett then headed the military administration of the recently acquired parts of the RCAS, overseeing a 'Confederate Reconstruction' of major cities and other areas of the nation. Minorities were deported, while evangelical and Mormon churches were cracked down upon. Land and property was redistributed to small farmers and worker cooperatives respectively. Gradually over the next decade, states were readmitted to the Confederacy until the entire Confederacy was incorporated in the confederate system. The Ascension, the largest public works project in history, was attempted afterwards to great success, with Pickett overseeing the project. Afterwards, he retired from active politics, keeping his military position. Val was genetically enhanced into a supersoldier with Indian biotechnology.
After the Risorgimento, Pickett retired from active politics, focusing instead on his programming pursuits. Several video games were developed by him during the early 22nd century, while he wrote an autobiography on his life. Pickett, despite his retirement from seeking political office, still ran his Young Hickory persona, bringing forth his opinions on recent events. His opinions held great sway, to the point of him being called the 'Pericles of American Democracy'. This comparison was embraced by him and his supporters. During the Ascension, Pickett spread his virtual reality technology to the general population.
Pickett also fought in several military campaigns since the Risorgimento. He fought on the Republican side of the Australian Civil War, leading the Sons of Liberty Brigade of American volunteers. Additionally, Pickett and the Confederate-Continental Citizen Forces engaged in the practice of 'bushwhacking', which involves sudden invasions and toppling of governments before withdrawing just as quickly. This strategy has been used in proxy wars in the Global South with mixed results.
However, this aggressive foreign policy soon led to Pickett and the CCCF being involved in the 2nd Bush War, where the RCAS and Afrikaners fought against black nationalist Azanian forces. Pickett led several invasions of Caribbean islands before fighting on the African front. Despite RCAS tactical victories with Pickett's Offensive, the war's sheer expenses as well as the nuclear bombings of South Africa led to the War Committee issuing a withdrawal after the Treaty of Pretoria was signed.
Pickett also fought in the South American War, aiding both the Argentinians and Bolivarians against the Brazilians. He led the American volunteers to major victories in the Battle of Caracas and the Battle of the Amazons. Ultimately, Brazil lost the war with Southern Brazil seceding and Gran Columbia forming.
During the Great Spacer War, Pickett led the Space Minutemen along with RCAS-aligned rebels against the space-based forces of the other major powers. The war ended indecisively, with a neutral free-space being declared and several colonies being admitted to the RCAS.
Pickett's ideology, or 'Pickettian Democracy', is his self-proclaimed successor to Jeffersonian and Jacksonian Democracy.
Pickett is an ardent believer in democracy, but his experiences with Pre-Collapse America have alienated him from representative democracy, which he saw as vulnerable to turning into oligarchy. Looking at republics throughout history, Pickett noticed that they tended to have a more direct form of democracy, with voters directly voting for legislation instead of relying on an elected body. Thomas Jefferson's ideal of the ward republic along with the remnants of the New English town meeting also served as inspirations for creating an alternative to liberal democracy. To Pickett, true republicanism and democracy can only come from citizens assemblies. However, elected officials still exist to an executive capacity, though collective executives are the norm in the RCAS.
Direct democracy, however, only could go so far. The traditional citizen assembly only works for small republics. To have a nation on the size of America be run by such a sense, the republics would have to confederated. Centralization was another facet of Pre-Collapse America he had hated, as the states lost power to both the districts and the federal government. He also found the arguments of the Federalist Papers to be unconvincing, instead finding the arguments of the Antifederalists to be almost prophetic. This led Pickett to abandon traditional mainstays of liberal democracy such as the taxation of individuals and individual voting. In his eyes, a confederation could only avoid conflicts of interest and centralization if the constituent groups voted as collectives and were taxed instead of individuals. It is easier to count 50 votes than 300 million, and the accumulation of taxes by state, local, and federal governments led to unnecessary bureaucratic bloat. The invention of modern communications technology has allowed the entire nation to potentially host all of the local citizens' meetings at the same time.
Pickett considered Jeffersonianism to be doomed to wither away to industrialization unless combined with worker's ownership of the means of production. He also found that urban areas tend to be more easily organized by vocation than by geography. Pickett's syndicalism seems to combine aspects of both craft and industrial unionism. Individual professions are represented within the labor syndicates that encompass each sector of the economy, but workplaces as a whole are represented too as businesses have equal vote to the vocations.
Property ownership was considered core to being a citizen in Jeffersonian Democracy. In Jefferson's time, this was achieved through being a yeoman farmer. In more industrial societies, Pickett had decided that only worker's self-management and worker cooperatives can apply the Jeffersonian ideal to industrial society. Property rights are based on the Proudhonian concept of active-use, with absentee ownership being banned with the exception of certain circumstances. Every voting citizen is expected to own property.
Pickett retained a lot of the racist views of the old Democratic Party, which he saw as the party of the common white man. In his eyes, the 'negro' was an 'anticitizen', the embodiment of all traits deemed unfavorable to democratic self-rule. He sees them as incapable of democratic self-rule. Pickett also saw America as being defined by its whiteness, as opposed to it being a nation of English Protestants. He considers white nationalism to be more inclusive than the latter nationalism. In his eyes, Pre-Collapse America's decadence could be traced back to the expansion of civil rights to nonwhites and the gradual removal of the Democratic Party from politics. To Pickett, American history was a struggle between Jeffersonianism, which Pickett defined as pan-white nationalism, decentralization, anticapitalism, and democracy, and Hamiltonianism, which Pickett defined as pietistic moralism, centralization, state-based nationalism, pro-capitalism, and oligarchy. Essentially, Pickett's views on race mirror those of the Democratic Party which he idolizes as the protectors of republican virtue against the 'corrupt, capitalist Republicans', which he saw as the party which caused America's decline. Additionally, Pickett also supports a pan-white sphere with other revolutionary, Western nations as both a military and economic bloc against the Orient.
Pickett believes that his 'godhood' should be shared among the American citizenry. This is partly due to his fear of becoming a tyrant himself. So, after the Risorgimento, Pickett started the Ascension, a project which involved converting America's entire citizenry into beings like himself. Every American was given an 'estate', or underground bunker complete with a synthetic body generator, much like his Hermitage. This made the average American practically immortal to most forms of violence as well as having a practically infinite lifespan. Even the militia and Minutemen system were updated to reflect this. The 2nd Amendment of the 2nd Bill of Rights was amended to define 'arms' as combat robots as well as firearms. Every citizen is obligated to own at least a squad's worth of combat robots as well their own personal weaponry.
The First World working class, conflated with the white race, is considered paramount in Pickett's ideology. The material interests of the First-World working class are to be fulfilled at the expense of both the capitalist class and the Third World. Like his white nationalism, this also entails a pan-white revolution happening across the First World as well as a geopolitical/economic alliance dedicated to protecting the interests of the 'First World' against the Chinese 'Second World' and the 'Third World' of underdeveloped nations. Third Worlders are seen as scabs, while the Oriental Second World is seen as direct enemies of the working class. Pickett also believes that true socialism is impossible to develop outside the First World, with limited exceptions. This is due to, in his opinion, the history of the Chinese Revolution and similar revolutions in the developing world in the 20th century leading to either despotic, totalitarian regimes or state capitalism. The white working class, or the First World, is lionized as a 'heroic class', motivated by the 'myth' of the Revolution and General Strike. Philanthropy and welfare, especially for nonwhites, is considered to be a parasite that suckles from the wealth of the white working class to benefit the 'lumpen' minorities. Development in the Third World similarly is considered to be a part of a capitalist plot to raise a 'scab class' to take jobs from the First World working class in a 'race to the bottom'. Naturally, this makes Pickett both an opponent of globalist capitalism and Maoist Third-Worldism.

Pickett is unofficially married to Valera 'Siri' Garcia, a Brazilian pornstar and former narco-thug. Due to her status as a nonperson, the marriage is unofficial. Cassidy had met her during his time at the University of Philadelphia. She was 6'5" when they first met, with a voluptuous body and huge bosom. However, genetic and hormonal modifications during the Risorgimento and its aftermath had transformed her into a towering bioweapon. Her height had increased to 7'8", while both her curves and muscles swelled.
Pickett's personality is notorious for being upbeat, brash, playful, and sometimes even childish. He has been described as a 'centenarian with the heart of a child'. Despite this, Pickett has a quick temper and often cusses a lot. His immortality also has made him cocky, often taking risking and starting fights due to having no fear of death. Pickett both is uncouth and common and has sense of grandeur and nobility, taking on some of the trappings of Southern gentry while retaining much of his working-class Northeast Philadelphia upbringing. Despite all this, he also has a soft side, especially in private. Before he became the Grand Wizard of the Redshirts, Pickett was shy and reserved unless he takes on a persona such as in theater or as Young Hickory.
Cassidy F. Pickett has a slender, pear-shaped body and stands at 4'10". He weighs 88 pounds and has deep blue eyes. Pickett also has long, red hair. Whenever he assumes his duties as Captain-General, Pickett dons a Van Dyke beard of the same hue with a skinny goatee and handlebar mustache, though he shaves it off when off-duty.
It is unknown if Pickett is actually related to the historical Confederate officer who shares his surname.
