The Partito Nazionale di Montevento (PNM) or simply Partito Nazionale (National Party of Montevento) is one of the oldest parties of Montevento, being considered one of the three traditional political parties of the country. After the national elections of 2019, it is the ruling party of the nation after its candidate, Christian Saavedra, won the elections and became the Doge of Montevento. It is also a member and current leader of the Coalizione Multicolore, a political coalition formed after the elections to secure that a majority in the National Council could be achieved by the new government.

The PNM was founded in 1833 by Rolando Bianculli and for a large number of years it was the only party together with the Partito Rosso, who was its main adversary during most of its existence, until the formation of Nuova Unione Alternativa and the surge of the left in the country, which made the relations between the PNM and the Partito Rosso improve, culminating in the formation of the Coalizione Multicolore.

It is usually considered as a "Catch-all" or "big tent" party, as it encompasses a surprisingly broad ideological spectrum if compared to the usual. Generally, the party has a centre-right ideology, but some sectors inside it are usually classified as right wing and even extreme right, but those sectors usually fail to achieve support even inside their own political party. On social issues, there has been a frequent lack of internal agreement on issues such as the decriminalization of abortion and euthanasia, but other issues, such as marriage equality, same-sex adoptions and transgender rights have been generally supported by a majority of the party members. The party is against the implementation of gender or racial quotas in the government or public institutions and instead believes in meritocracy.

[floatleft][box][/box][/floatleft]The PNM follows a total of 5 principles that it considers of paramount importance for any of its members:

• Common Good: considers that the common good is above the personal good.
• Solidarity: individuals should be aware that along with their rights, they have duties that they must fulfill for the good of all
• Subsidiarity: it seeks to support and protect the most vulnerable people and groups, until they can fend for themselves.
• Equity: it is understood as injustice to treat those who have unequal conditions as equals.
• Human person: places the individual as a beginning and an end, and not as a political instrument.

Regarding its economic policies, the PNM recognizes the private ownership of the means of production and the free formation of prices, the freedom of contract, the implementation and validity of a competition regime, the free trade and the social security.

The PNM currently holds the governorship of the Province of Fiume D'Oro and the mayor's office of the cities of Nuova Firenze, Tivollo, Verocuse, Ouva, Almelona and Komori, as well as the ministries of Social Development, Economy and Finances and Foreign Affairs.

The Partito Rosso (PR) (Red Party or Rosso Party) is one of the traditional parties of Montevento, being the oldest of them all. The party seeks to unite moderate and liberal groups, although its members have had a diverse set of ideologies since its foundation, including Krausism, social democracy, and liberal conservatism, as well as general pragmatism. It was the dominant party of government almost without exception during the creation of Montevento and during most of its history, being the party that has managed to win more national elections in total. From its birth until the last decades of the 20th century its traditional rival was the Partito Nazionale di Montevento, which is now its political ally and fellow member of the Coalizione Multicolore.

Flag of the Partito Rosso[/box][/floatleft]During the past governments of the Partito Rosso there has been an enormous attention to social issues, passing laws regarding abortion (under special conditions), euthanasia and LGBT+ rights (marriage, civil union, gender identity law and adoption law). Nonetheless, the party opposes postal vote and the decriminalization of marijuana and other drugs.

The main reference of the Partito Rosso was Mauro Spalla, who won the national elections in 1921, 1925, 1929 and 1953, and formed part of the Triumvirate (governmental body made up of 3 heads of state) in 1957 and 1965, being one of the most important people in the political world of Montevento.

Mauro Spalla was the creator of Spallanism, a political movement that had its golden years from 1920 to 1970, playing a very important role in shaping the present day Montevento. Spallanism is still the main way of thinking inside the Partito Rosso, being their main ideas the following:

• Defense of capitalism: the movement never questioned the private ownership of the means of production
• Economic interventionism: Essential public services should be in the hands of the State, as it is the representative body of society. The State should intervene where private capital is afraid of losing money, as the State shall not be guided by the profit motive but by public service.
• Anticlericalism: Expressed in the total separation between the Catholic Church (or any other religion) and the State, with clear intentions on reducing the church's power to a minimum, pushing for an atheist state but without banning freedom of religion.
• An advanced labor and social security legislation, in order to protect the less advantaged people, but at the same time making them less dependant on the state to survive.
• The rejection of the class struggle as a way of resolving social conflicts.

Among the laws made by the Partito Rosso during the golden years of the Spallanist movement it is possible to find: Maximum workday of 8 hours a day and 48 hours a week, prohibition of work for children under 13, right to strike, divorce law by unilateral will of women, installation of schools and night schools for workers, secret and universal voting and the prohibition of bullfighting and any other form of animal abuse.

The PR currently holds the governorship of the Province of Terra Nuova and the mayor's office of the cities of Alcadell, Altacchia, Ferona, Thorntoria, Catanto, Santadras, Caseto and Terme.

The Nuova Unione Alernativa (NUA) (New Alternative Union) is one of the newest traditional parties of Montevento, with only 80 years of history, unlike the other traditional parties who are much older. It Defines itself as progressive, democratic, popular, anti-oligarchic and anti-imperialist. It is located at the left of the political spectrum. It was founded on November 19, 1940 as the result of the coalition of several political parties of left and centre-left idiologies, the convocation of independent citizens and the creation of a unitary political movement.

The political force unquestionably is the most voted in the country for the last 3 elections, obtaining the most seats in the National Council. However, the political force fails to reach by itself an absolute majority to access the government of the country, being outspoken by the other political parties that manage to establish coalitions to reach said majority.

Emiliano Addeo speaking to supporters[/box][/floatleft]Currently, the Nuova Unione Alternativa is formed by a total of 11 different political parties: Popular Front, Monteventani Assembly, Socialist Party of Montevento, People's Victory, Communist Party, Socialist Worker's Party, Revolutionary Worker's Party, Progressist Alliance, Forward, Partito Per la Democrazia and Cittadini.

Within the groups that make up the Nuova Unione Alternativa, different ideologies can be distinguished, such as communism, socialism, Marxism, social democracy, and to a lesser extent liberalism and Christian democracy, as well as alliances, fronts and internal spaces . This political force promotes a benefactor state model.

The Nuova Unione Alternativa defends the right of euthanasia and the right to abortion by the sole decision of women. It also recognizes the right to same-sex marriage, as well as homosexual adoption; and the change of name in the documents of transgender people. It also supports the legalization of marijuana and postal vote.

The party also has fully feminist sectors, which advocate for gender equality in Montevento. These groups have succeeded in creating an internal norm in the party, from which half of all political positions obtained by the political party should belong to women when possible. The norm is not usually respected, but women participation remains higher than in other parties.

The NUA has great support from the labor sectors of Montevento, having strong ties with the Centrale Nazionale dei Lavoratori (National Union of Workers), which is the main trade union association in the country.

The Nuova Unione Alternativa currently holds the governorship of the Province of Costa Grande and Essequibo as well as the mayor's office of the cities of San Giovanni (the nation's capital), Cosimia, Porto Potaro, Macedras and Sabandia.

The Partito Verde (PV) (Green Party) is a minor political party created in 1991 when the Natural Reserve of Nuova Italia was converted in a Province of Montevento by the Government earlier that year. The party was created by people who were in charge of the administration of the natural reserve and wanted to continue their work and protection of the environment in the newly formed province. The Partito Verde has since won all the elections of the governorship of Nuova Italia, as well as all the five mayors of the province, with the exception of Terme, which was lost at the hands of the Partito Rosso for the first time in the 2019 elections. The party has managed to obtain good amounts of support in other parts of Montevento as well.

[floatleft][box]
Partito Verde's mascot among supporters[/box][/floatleft]It is an environmentalist party, whose program emphasizes the preservation of natural resources, being contrary to open pit mining, indiscriminate logging of the Monteventani rainforest in the provinces of Nuova Italia, Essequibo and Terra Nuova, transgenic crops and the use of various pesticides and chemicals in crops.

The party has played a very important role in the implementation of ecotaxes (taxes levied on activities which are considered to be harmful to the environment and are intended to promote environmentally friendly activities via economic incentives) during the last government of the Partito Rosso (with whom they formed a coalition) and during the current government, as they are members of the Coalizione Multicolore with the Partito Nazionale di Montevento and the Partito Rosso.

The party is currently pushing for the adoption of a system for carbon trading, a system where people are forced to factor the pollution cost into their expenses, and the government regulation of carbon emissions and other polluting factors in business practices, forcing companies to either reduce their pollution levels or face great taxes, leading to the increase of cost of their products and the loss of clients to more cheap and environmentally friendly options.

Another of the party's concern is creating a more environmentally conscious consumer base, by creating public campaigns that inform the average citizen of the impact of each product on the environment. In addition, the party has managed to pass a law to prohibit the free distribution of plastic bags in shopping centers, forcing the customer to have to buy them, while subsidizing the cost of producing biodegradable bags and paper or cloth bags.

The Partito Verde currently holds the governorship of Nuova Italia, as well as the mayor's office of the cities of Villa Pioviosa, Lanada, Badandia and Luvento.

Movimento Diretto (MD) (Direct Movement) is a minor party of Montevento which envisions a transition from a representative democracy to a direct democracy carried out through technological means. The party was created in 2018 by Federico Conti, a student of the Universitΰ Pubblica di Montevento, being supported mainly by students and intellectuals from said University. The first elections disputed by the MD were the 2019 National Elections, where they obtained 5.93% of the total votes and 15 seats in the National Council, even managing to win two municipalities in Fiume D'Oro.

[floatleft][box]
MD rally in the city of Hospindia[/box][/floatleft]The party's main goal is to transition to an Electronic Direct Democracy, where the people are directly involved in the legislative function by electronic means. Ideally, the party wants citizens to electronically vote on legislation, author new legislation and be able to recall representatives, as well as redacting a new constitution for Montevento.

As part of its compromise with direct democracy, all of the 15 members of the National Council obtained by the MD, cast their votes on legislation according to the results of polls conducted on the internet that can be taken by any registered member of the MD.

The Government Program proposed by the MD was created in a collaborative and participatory way open to all citizens, without discriminating by political party, by asking them to publish their ideas and proposals on the IoVoto Platform, a platform that the MD maintains available to all Monteventanis to encourage debates and idea exchanges. The party has compromised to submit any written legislation proposal that reaches a certain ammount of support on this platform for consideration of the National Council.

They deny having a defined ideology; Depending on the opinion of those who participate in each decision, their votes in the National Council may be more to the left or more to the right. Some of the most popular ideas on the IoVoto platform, and that therefore have the support of the party, are:

• Educative reform: the tech industry is desperately in need of talent to meet its needs. To move towards a modern and sustainable Montevento, the party believes that it is needed for the citizens of the nation to learn skills like basic programming and how to use technological devices from an early age. They also support the promotion of an entrepreneurial culture and the introduction of mandatory environmental education, financial education and nutritional education.
• Full economic transparency: 100% of the country's economic information must be available to be viewed by citizens, in order to let them know where their money is being spent.
• General digitalization: The MD supports the digitalization of all burocratic and tax procedures.

The MD also defends the freedom of expression, communication, education and respects the privacy of citizens and civil rights in general. Defend the free flow of ideas, knowledge and culture and have a commitment to work collaboratively, and participate with maximum transparency. The party does not support any action that involves violence.

The Partito Comunista Rivoluzionario (PCR) (Revolutionary Communist Party) is the third oldest party in Montevento and one of the two communist parties of Montevento, the other being the Partito Comunista (Communist Party), who is currently member of Nuova Unione Alternativa. The PCR was founded on October 21 of 1920, separating from the already dissolved Socialist Party of all Workers, in adherence to the Russian Revolution and the Third Leninist International.

The party manifests itself as leftist, from Marxist-Leninist-Maoist ideology and in favor of a democratic-popular and anti-imperialist revolution, in an uninterrupted march towards socialism. The PCR believes that this revolution will be inevitably violent and will destroy the current state.

[floatleft][box]
March in support of the PCR in San Giovanni[/box][/floatleft]The PCR is in favor of the uninterrupted and phased revolution. In the current stage, its objective is the democratic-popular, agrarian, anti-imperialist and anti-revisionist revolution, in an uninterrupted march to socialism. The PCR considers that the proletariat is the main force and leader in the Monteventani revolution, and its main ally is the poor peasantry, while the enemies of the revolution are imperialism, landowners, and the intermediary bourgeoisie.

Among the primary concerns of the Partito Comunista Rivoluzionario are the problems of unemployment, underemployment and job insecurity, which the party considers the natural result of the profit-driven incentives of the capitalist economy.

The Partito Comunista Rivoluzionario seeks equal rights for women, equal pay for equal work and the protection of reproductive rights, together with putting an end to sexism. The party's ranks include a Women's Equality Commission, which recognizes the role of women as an asset in building communism.

Due to its revolutionary and extremist tendencies, the PCR has been banned several times by various governments of Montevento, being often categorized as a "subersive institution". Its radical position has also politically isolated itself, being unable to find allies or supporters among other political parties.

In the last elections the PCR managed to access a seat in the National Council, which was occupied by its President, Mr. Tosco Ciarrocchi, who has abstained himself from voting in most of the Council's votations, as a symbol of rebellion. The PCR has never won a governorship and its voting history has never been impresive, never getting more than 5% of the votes in a national election.
