The Unified Adatan Peacekeeping Forces (generally referred to as the UAPF) comprise the primary official military organization within the Union. The UAPF typically handles conventional warfare both in and out of planetary bounds, campaign logistics and territorial control establishment, relying on external governmental branches (such as the Bureau of Informational Concerns) to handle most clandestine tasks alongside the bulk of intelligence duties. It is presided over in its entirety by [NAME], and is divided into two sub-branches - the Planetary Operational Forces (responsible for planetary landings and most other forms of intra-atmospheric operations, and headed by [NAME]) and the Stellar Navy (responsible for extraatmospheric warfare and inter-planetary transport, and headed by [NAME]).


The Planetary Operational Force


The Planetary Operational Force comprises the older (and smaller) of the two UAPF branches currently in service. Consisting of the conglomerated terrestrial branches of the original, largely non-space-capable forces fielded by the Union during the Elders' War, it is responsible for most in-atmosphere operations, and is heavily involved in both planetary landings and surface-based defense.


Infantry


The POF's infantry wing forms the backbone of its combat structure, and is perhaps the most operationally-versatile component of such.


Arms & Equipment


The aforementioned versatility is owed in large part to the equipment carried by each soldier - notable among such is the so-called Modular Combat Frame. An exoskeletal armor platform suitable for on-the-fly modification, and outfitted with a number of specialized modules tailored to the combat role of each individual soldier, the MCF forms a dependable system that has served Adatan forces admirably since its adoption. It is typically modified in accordance to one of several standardized templates, the most notable of which are listed below. It is worth noting that standard features across most (if not all) variants encompass nanomechanical repair & trauma mediation systems, integrated air filtration units (with optional closed-air-supply/oxygen recycling modules) and an internally-pressurized environment.

  • The Standard
    Typical infantry wear. Composite foam plating, backed by dilatant-soaked nanopolymer sub-plating and active cooling systems capable of weathering sustained small-arm intensity directed energy fire. Standard-duty servo motors, allowing for indefinitely-sustained running speeds of around 40-60 km/h (depending on equipment load) and striking force of 6,000 PSI.

  • The Lite
    Employed by vehicle crews and pilots. Dilatant-soaked nanopolymer plating, MRF "balloon" countermeasures (require targeting uplink to retain usability, and as such are only usable in-vehicle). Lightened servo motors, allowing for indefinitely-sustained running speeds of around 40-55 km/h (depending on equipment load) and striking force of 2,000 PSI.

  • The Heavy
    Employed by specialized shock troops and breakthrough units. Composite foam/dilatant-soaked nanopolymer plating, backed by liquid buffers and enhanced active cooling systems capable of weathering sustained, small-arm intensity directed energy fire nigh-indefinitely (alongside providing adequate protection from higher-intensity directed energy fire for brief periods). Personal EM shielding unit & infantry-grade point-defense system. Heavy-duty servo motors, allowing for indefinitely-sustained running speeds of around 40-60 km/h (depending on equipment load) and striking force of 10,000 PSI.

  • The Covert
    Employed by reconnaissance and infiltration units. Dilatant-soaked nanopolymer plating, MRF "balloon" countermeasures (omboard targeting suites, usable in all environments). Passive plating repigmentation/sensor masking suites, active refractor camo suites. Lightened, output-boosted servo motors, allowing for indefinitely-sustained running speeds of around 50-75 km/h (depending on equipment load) and striking force of 3,000 PSI.

  • The Elite
    Employed by special operations units and certain VIP protection squads. Composite foam/dilatant-soaked nanopolymer plating, backed by liquid buffers and enhanced active cooling systems capable of weathering sustained, high-intensity directed energy fire nigh-indefinitely. Personal Aural shielding unit & infantry(+)-grade point-defense system. Special-issue servo motors, allowing for indefinitely-sustained running speeds of around 50-65 km/h (depending on equipment load) and striking force of 12,000 PSI.


Small Arms

The POF's small arms selection aims to further its infantry wing's versatility-based doctrine - as such, most armaments are in fact built on a common platform, with minimal variations to accommodate combat roles.

  • AS-122
    The standard primary firearm issued to PFO troops. The AS-122 operates on an Aura-derivative accelerator-based principle, wherein projectile shards are sheared off a conglomerate "ammunition block", then shifted to strike an imperfect synthetic Aura Node (which acts as a pseudo-propellant source). This causes momentary destabilization of the Node, creating a region of vectored uncertainty through which the shard is propelled by its own momentum. Once the region dissipates, the conditions within are refactored with regards to baseline reality - in the shard, this effects functionally-instantaneous acceleration to extreme speeds, with exact velocities dependent on the size and purity of the Node in question. Nodes may only be destabilized thusly a limited number of times, and must therefore be replaced with varying frequency depending on the manufacturing pattern used (in typical standard-issue firearms, the Node is automatically cycled and discarded after every 16,000 shots fired, necessitating a brief period during which the firearm is automatically locked).

    Variants of the AS-122 system typically differ primarily in the Node specifications utilized, and thus the resultant muzzle velocity/range variance (which may range from subsonic in covert-deployment variants, to around Mach 9 in certain high-velocity sniper variants). They may also mount different optics, though these are nigh-universally linked to the onboard sensor/targeting suite of a soldier's MCF platform. Functional rates of fire are generally standardized, and even out to around 1,200 rounds per minute.

  • PD-6
    The standard secondary firearm issued to PFO troops. Its operational principle is nigh-identical to that of the AS-122, though it utilizes prepackaged rounds in place of a sequentially-sheared feed block. This allows for varying payload mounting, and it is not uncommon for servicemen to handload ammunition for additional effect.


Vehicles


While infantry may be considered the de-facto basis of the UAPF's planetside capabilities, it is their terrifyingly robust and ubiquitous armor columns which provide the bulk of their overwhelming firepower and force projection. Standard features of Adatan armored vehicles include comprehensive multi-spectrum sensor banks, nanomechanical repair systems and compact laser-based point defense.

    The GBT-11 constitutes the primary model of main battle tank in service with the POF. Sporting a somewhat unusual armament makeup for a vehicle of its class, its primary offensive potential comes from a set of dual Aural Accelerator cannons. Though seemingly meager in caliber, each such gun is capable of firing relativistically-accelerated slugs at a consistent rate of around 120 RPM - a fire output proving itself not only devastating against enemy armor, but also capable of overwhelming all but the most overengineered point-defense systems. This primary armament setup is also configured in such a way as to allow mid-burst ammunition-switching with minimal interruptions in firerate - thanks to a set of two magazine feeds for each cannon, alongside a system of electromagnet-fired interruptors which may alternate between the two feedways, the gunner may quick-swap to a secondary ammunition type in between shots, with an interruption period that is only marginally longer than the usual half-second firing delay. This allows for advanced grouping applications, such as the engagement of mixed-target groups via predetermined burst patterns.

    Supplementing this fearsome duo is a coaxially-mounted (though independently-articulated) pair of pulse lasers, typically utilized either in conjunction with the main guns to "soften up" potential targets, or on their own against lightly-armored vehicles, and in situations where stealth is a priority. And indeed, when it comes to stealth, the GBT-11 truly stands at the top of its class - sporting a sophisticated sensor-interference suite, alongside thermal and optical masking arrays along its hull, it excels at ambush operations. A pair of heavy machineguns provide additional anti-infantry capabilities. All this is rounded off by a comprehensive array of sensory apparatus, a number of point-defense measures, and a set of cutting-edge, actively-cooled, dilatant-buffered nanocomposite plating. The vehicle may be deployed from orbit via specially-designed vehicular drop pods, as well as airdropped via the the application of a modular paradrop package. It is also fully amphibious, and well-suited to difficult terrain without the need for deviation from the standard module pattern.

    The entire system operates with a crew of only two men, with additional targeting functionality provided by an onboard, non-sapient, military-grade AI suite, allowing for a de-facto third crewmember for combat purposes. This allows for both marginally more efficient utilization of the features listed above, and minimal personnel investment per vehicle, conserving manpower for alternative avenues of deployment.

    As a final sidenote, the coaxial lasers may be utilized for further point-defense counteraction when employed in conjunction with the main guns - by zeroing in on projectile impact and interception data, typically gathered after a few seconds of the Accelerator cannons firing, scattered pulses may be fired at the predicted trajectories of active point-defense measures, potentially counter-intercepting or disabling them.

    The SRU-5 is a somewhat dated design when compared to the remainder of the Adatan vehicular roster. A relic of the Elders' War, it nevertheless remains in service in a considerably retrofitted and modernized form, and continues to serve as an effective payload delivery platform. Its six mounting brackets are typically fitted with "Krait" pattern MLRS pods, housing three variable-payload missiles each. These may be substituted for various other armament options depending on the vehicle's intended purpose, including several alternative MLRS pod designs, singular heavy-duty missiles or even directed sonic emitters. Of note is the so-called "Model N" refit, wherein each bracket is fitted with a "Molot" Tactical-Application Nuclear Lance Pod. Effectively a set of low-yield Casaba Howitzers, it is intended for anti-fortification and anti-orbital usage. To counteract the immense recoil impulse of firing, each pod is fitted with a number of retrorockets which serve to stabilize it during the firing sequence. Once discharged, the pods are immediately decoupled, causing them to be fired rearwards with considerable force by the residual "kick". This modification is also coupled with an unmanned turret module, internal recoil dampeners and a set of anchoring claws, all intended to minimize potential harm to the vehicle and its crew.

    A turret-mounted HMG/Point Defense Laser duo provide a source of backup fire against incoming munitions, infantry and light vehicles, though their cone of fire is limited by the mounting brackets.

    The BTM-20 is the primary APC currently in service with the SOF. While the infantry equipment carried by Adatan forces tends to be bulky and lend itself rather poorly to tranportation, the BTM-20's sizeable interior and considerable transit speed even when under heavy load ensure that it may still be relocated with minimum fuss and maximum efficiency. Its armament is also not-inconsiderable for a vehicle of its class - with two heavy-duty Aural Accelerators capable of providing long-range fire support, and a quartet of autocannons for tearing into lightly armored vehicles and infantrymen who happen to stray too close. Finally, its sturdy liquid-buffered, actively cooled nanocomposite armor, alongside a plethora of early detection and point defense systems, allow it to rival even MBTs in battlefield survivability.


Aircraft


The POF's aerial wing is typically intended to serve as a rapid-response, long-range strike vector. Versatile in its application, it is typically deployed into conflict zones directly from in-orbit Stellar Navy vessels, with the aid of specialized freefall-guidance packages.

    The SMA-7 constitutes the primary class of aircraft employed by the POF. Surprisingly low-tech in its design, its relatively meager cost and well-proven combat effectiveness have nevertheless made it a ubiquitous feature of practically any planetary assault or defense. Reconfigurable for a variety of roles with minimal reassembly, its three internal payload bays are sufficiently spacious to allow for a rather heavy load despite its size. It is also boasts a surprisingly consistent safety record, with onboard auto-repair systems allowing pilots to return to base even after their craft has sustained grievous damage.

    While not technically an aircraft in the traditional sense, the VBT-2 remains a valuable asset to the POF's aerial corps. It is, in effect, a hovering "airship" of sorts - heavily limited by altitude, it is nevertheless capable of gliding over practically any terrain with minimal difficulty. Functioning as an aircraft carrier and operational staging point, its onboard reactors and fabrication units allow it to not only operate in a self-sustaining manner, but also provide a crucial resupply source for friendly forces in remote areas. While not intended for frontline combat, its armaments remain considerable - its sizeable VLS banks and complement of aircraft allow for long-range strikes, while a smattering of Accelerators and secondary missile systems provide a last line of defense in the event that a direct confrontation proves unavoidable.


Ships


While spacecraft and extraatmospheric navies may be considered the modern norm for long-range power projection, the existence of terrestrial naval compliments has not yet been made obsolete. That said, their role differs considerably from the days of old - serving primarily as auxilliary fire support and logistical backing for planetary assault operations, they are also employed as additional leverage against defensive naval assets (though such are typically fielded by primtech civilizations, minimizing the actual necessity of additional force deployment).

The Stellar Navy


While the POF holds responsibility for planetary landings and subsequent planetside warfare, it is the Stellar Navy who must transport them to the site of engagement, alongside facilitating what may perhaps be the most crucial aspect of war in the modern era - namely, spaceborne combat. As such, they represent the larger of the two military branches, and receive a considerable portion of the Union's defense budget.


Infantry


While their speciality lies in ship-to-ship combat, the Stellar Navy does in fact employ infantry forces in some capacity, primarily in the form of marine units for the purpose of on-ship security, boarding action and express landings.


Arms & Equipment


Unlike the MCF employed by planetside forces, Stellar Navy marines utilize a proprietary, decidedly less modular platform of personal protective equipment - the so-called SEF (or Specialized Extraatmospheric Frame). Standardized across practically all marine units, the SEF is somewhat bulkier than even the "Heavy" pattern of MCF - due to its usage in low-gravity conditions and minimal need for vehicular transport, certain dimensional considerations were neglected to allow for the installation of a sturdier class of plating (in this case consisting of a heavy nanopolymer composite, cooled passively by a series of dilatant buffer capsules, and actively through an inter-plate channel system within its structural layering, alongside a series of quick-detach heatsink banks), as well as a dedicated zero-G thrust/manuevering system, which also allows for limited aerial mobility in-atmosphere. This makes each Marine a fearsome opponent, as they are both marginally more durable and significantly more mobile than their terrestrial equivalents. The prohibitive cost of the system is offset by the significantly lower numbers of the troops to whom it is issued, when compared to the POF's manpower (and commensurate mass-production equipment drive). Each SEF also comes pre-installed with certain additional features to allow for use in its intended environment - most notably, amplified temperature regulators and an onboard air supply.


Small Arms

While Stellar Navy Marines employ a proprietary armor system, the weapons they bear remain largely identical to those of their terrestrial counterparts (as Aural Accelerators may function in a vacuum without issue). With this being said, there exist several arms exclusive to the Navy's forces.

  • TRP-16
    Blurring the defintion of "small arm" by some measure, the TRP-16 is essentially a handheld variant of the vehicular autocannons oft found aboard Adatan vehicles and aircraft. Able to be comfortably wielded with the aid of the Marines' excessively-reinforced exo-armor, it allows a single soldier to output a heretofore unprecedented volume of fire. Depending on the quality of ammunition and Nodes provided, it may also allow for effective infantry takedowns of most vehicles and certain classes of spacecraft.


Vehicles


The Stellar Navy is not particularly famed for its usage of proprietary vehicles, preferring to relegate most planetary warfare requiring such to the POF. Marine strike teams, however, do have access to certain specialized modes of transit to better carry out planetside ops.

    The LBD-44, oft nicknamed the "Lebed" by Stellar Navy servicemen, constitutes the primary form of vehicle employed by the Adatan marine corps. Featuring a unique form of independently-articulated, overcharged quad-track propulsion, this relatively light pseudo-APC is capable of rapid transit over difficult terrain, and excels at the delivery of marine strike teams into critical locations. While its armor is subpar, it retains a degree of survivability due to its nimble nature, alongside a series of comprehensive-coverage point defense systems. It is also expressly designed for direct, orbit-to-surface insertion without prior modification, with only a simple heatshield package and guidance pod required for the safe deployment of a fully-crewed vehicle into the midst of a warzone. Its armament is surprisingly threatening to even purpose-designed combat vehicles - a duo of long-range precision Aural Accelerators capable of penetrating vehicle armor with minimal issue, alongside a smaller-caliber top-mounted HMG-esque variant for chewing through infantry formations, allow for a significant degree of combat versatility.


Spacecraft


The bulk of the Stellar Navy is, understandably, concentrated in its complement of combat spacecraft. Doctrinally, these form a keystone of modern warfare as a whole, allowing for rapid interplanetary transit and orbital bombardment, as well as the elimination of enemy capacity to do the same.

    The ZIK-1 constitutes the primary form of starfighter employed by the Adatan Stellar Navy. Atypical in its shape and design, its distinctive (and above all, sizeable) frontal profile belies a versatile and exceedingly maneuverable craft. Featuring seven independently-articulated banks of pulse thrusters (one primary thrust bank, alongside six maneuvering pods), it is capable of shifing its velocity and trajectory at heretofore unprecedented speeds, both in-atmosphere and out. Its primary armament is equally distinctive - alongside a pair of standard, rotary Accelerator cannons for use against other fighters and soft targets, it also features two purpose-designed Accelerator-based universal-kill systems. Though their rate of fire is meager, their usage of a plasma-assisted propellant array and express-engineered smart munitions makes up for any loss in hit probability per unit of time. Each round is not only capable of independent guidance (both in and out of atmospheric conditions, though with notably reduced range and velocity in the former case), but is also capable of adjusting its method of detonation, fragmentation and payload dispersal in-flight. This allows for precision targeting of vulnerable areas on enemy fighters (and potentially larger vessels, though such usage is ill-intended), resulting in a markedly higher kill probability for each round. Additional armaments carried by each unit may be mounted in two internal munition bays, and are typically tailored to the mission at hand (though common choices include torpedoes and MLRS-esque rocket pods).

    The Kukushka constitutes the primary form of bomber employed by the Adatan Stellar Navy. Relatively inexpensive to produce, requiring only a single crewmember, and boasting considerable firepower for a craft of its size, it has been a longtime mainstay with GAU forces. A frontal turreted mount bears a pair of hypervelocity Aural Accelerator cannons, alongside a singular pulse laser for the elimination of "soft" targets and additional anti-shielding capabilities. This is backed up by three internal bays - one primary, two auxilliary, typically loaded with either ship-to-ship torpedo munitions or anti-ground delivery systems (typically a self-propelled munitions or glide-bombs, with varying payloads). Two external hardpoints allow for the mounting of additional detachable munitions or gunpods, wherein the former is typically favoured for in-atmosphere usage, while the latter is often utilized as a supplementary package for extraatmospheric combat.

    The Kukushka is, understandably, fully capable of operating both intra and extraatmospherically, and is in fact fully capable of repeated atmospheric entry/exit within a singular mission cycle - the first Adatan design to achieve such functionality. Its track record as a reliable, easy-to-maintain and above all survivable design has lent it considerable favour with Union pilots, and its ability to deliver devastating volumes of anti-fortification and anti-armor firepower has cemented its place as perhaps one of the most notable harbingers of a planetary assault.

    The Vorobey is among the most ubiquitous non-combat-oriented spacecraft within Stellar Navy service. Useful as a dropship, light transport and impromptu ground-support gunship, no planetary landing is complete without masses of these vaguely slab-like craft flocking into the atmosphere of the target planet. Featuring a spacious interior capable of housing up to thirty-five passengers, alongside various vehicular and freight-esque payloads (the volume and/or quantity of which varies considerably depending on the payload in question), the vessel is also equipped with a gimballed turret-pod, fitted with a pair of Accelerator-based autocannons and accompanying coaxial pulse lasers, primarily for the purpose of anti-ground fire support. Gunship variants may be mounted with additional armaments at the cost of transport capacity, though such designs are varied in their execution and exact loadout.

    Among the Stellar Navy's planetary landing contingent, few craft are as iconic (or imposing) as the Sova. A veritable titan, this capital-analogue vessel serves as a mobile dock for dropships and atmospheric entry pods, coordination point for the command structure responsible for landing operations, and heavy armament platform for both the destruction of large groundborne troop concentrations, and the deterrence of enemy spacecraft. While it doesn't quite match up in firepower to its more combat-oriented cousins, its twin spinal Accelerators remain a considerable threat to enemy vessels of practically all sizes, and the smattering of lower-caliber arms grants it considerable defensive potential against close-in fighter runs. In addition, its ability to carry significant quantities of both troops and the means to deploy them allows for the convenient mounting of planetary strikes. The docking and storage facilities aboard such vessels may also be repurposed to store considerable quantities of fighters and/or bombers, allowing the Sova to operate as an emergency carrier should the need arise.

    Just a marginal step above the Union's various strikecraft and utility vessels in terms of size, the Golub's meager dimensions fail to adequately showcase the hazard it presents to even capital-class vessels. Designed specifically for the targeted elimination of spacecraft far larger than itself, it is practically built around a spinally-mounted fusion lance - a fearsome weapon, typically mounted on capital ships, capable of brute-forcing its way through shielding and active cooling systems alike, and vaporizing the bulkheads beyond on all but the most resilient target vessels through sheer energy output. It is backed up by a host of lower-yield armaments, which nevertheless provide a considerable degree of firepower against vessels too small or nimble to reliably target with the lance itself. Of note is the unusually large, reinforced hardpoint on the craft's underside - aside from additional munitions, it is often used to hold transport modules or auxilliary support systems to augment the fusion lance's firing cycle.

    The primary flaw of such a design is the bulk of its central weapons system - the lance's cooling arrays in particular are immensely bulky, and require the downscaling of certain other systems for the maintenance of acceptable size margins. This results in a vessel with marginally diminished defensive options compared to most other designs of its class, relegating this fragile craft to the role of an extreme-range fire support unit. Worth noting is that the Golub is theoretically capable of operating with a crew complement of only three men - the remaining crewmembers are in fact engineers, whose task it is to tend to the notoriously complex and relatively unreliable systems maintaining proper function of the fusion lance.

    The Chaika is the primary corvette design in service with the Adatan Stellar Navy, and is deployed en-masse in practically all operations it conducts. A multirole vessel suitable for both space warfare and orbital shelling, its armaments are configured in such a way as to allow for optimal performance in as many situations as possible. Its dual spinally-mounted Accelerator cannons - something of a Union design mainstay - are adequate for dealing with enemy vessels of larger or comparable size, while its various laser mounts serve to deter fighters and intercept tangible munitions. A whopping twelve internal armament bays provide a framework for the mounting of considerable volumes of additional weaponry, and are typically loaded with a heterogenous combination of torpedoes and swarmer missiles. They may also be fitted with Casaba Howitzers of not-inconsiderable yield, allowing for powerful short-term strikes against far larger targets, should such a thing be required. All this is rounded off by the so-called Flux Ray - a somewhat crude (but undeniably effective) direct-Aura weapon.

    While its pitiful extraatmospheric range makes it functionally useless against enemy spacecraft, the devastating on-impact effects it provides cement its usage as an orbital bombardment tool. Via the use of a high-yield metastable Locus node, the Flux Ray projects a maelstrom of Aural radiation in a loosely-directed beam, which suffers a non-interactive, "adherent" effect with regards to gaseous matter (allowing it to be projected far further in-atmosphere than in a vacuum). Upon impacting a sufficient quantity of solid or liquid matter, the beam defocuses further, and refracts into an ellipsoid region wherein physical constraints are selectively (and violently) lessened or negated entirely. For a brief period, this impact region suffers a host of unpredictable energetic interactions and random material recombination, typically resulting in partial matter-to-energy conversion and significant dimensional shearing. There are few effective ways to shield oneself from such a weapon - as such, it has proven itself invaluable as an orbital artillery asset for planetary incursions.

    While the various smaller craft within the Stellar Navy's purvey are certainly threatening in their own right, it is the Vorona which truly begins to exemplify the heavy-hitting nature of their fleets. Still a few steps below capital ship designation, it nevertheless proves itself to be a formidable vessel in practically all extraatmospheric combat environments. Purpose-built for ship-to-ship combat (but no less effective at providing support for planetary incursions), its sturdy design and considerable armament heft allow it to hold its own against technically superior odds in the hands of all but the most inept commanders. True to Union doctrine, each shot of its central, spinally-mounted Accelerator cannon proves devastating against even far larger, more imposing vessels, while a slew of smaller Accelerators and pulse lasers provide a constant, withering fire output to deter fightercraft and whittle away at capital vessels. A not-inconsiderable fighter compliment for its size allows for additional versatility in all aspects of combat.

    If any vessel may bear the title of "backbone of the Stellar Navy", it is most assuredly the Vorona. Forming the bulk of most fleet groupings, these dependable craft may be found practically anywhere the Union sets foot.

    If the Vorona is the Stellar Navy's backbone, the Pavlin is its nerves. A small, rather nondescript light cruiser - its armament less than impressive for its size, its exterior wholly unintimidating when faced with the remainder of the Union's roster. And yet this comparatively small sub-capital vessel is perhaps among the most dangerous assets the Adatan fleets have at their disposal. Possessive of stunningly advanced detection-masking suites and a sensory compliment with a higher material cost than the rest of the ship's systems combined, these craft are the unseen eyes and ears of the Navy. Operating as forward scouts and deep-incursion platforms, they are built expressly to avoid detection until that crucial, pivotal moment in which their placement comes to fruition - and by then, it is often far too late. A notable onboard strikecraft compliment bolsters their theoretically meager defenses to surprisingly hazardous levels, and many a capital ship has found itself on the retreat from the retaliatory onslaught of a seemingly-hapless Pavlin.

    The Yastreb is the smallest vessel in the Adatan roster that could truly be termed a capital ship. Looming above its lesser brethren, this robust and heavily-armed craft is often at the core of fleet formations, and provides a considerable fraction of the average Union battlegroup's firepower. Its primary spinal Accelerator flings slugs the size of lesser warships, and the artificial Locus-analogues it employs produce flux-waves of sufficient power to bend local reality, reshaping each projectile into a de-facto relativistic particle beam. Its secondary armaments are no less fearsome, and have been known to tear whole incoming fighter wings to shreds. Finally, its own onboard strikecraft compliment is considerable in number, and a versatile asset in its own right. These vessels are rarely employed in anything save ship-to-ship combat, for each Navy serviceman knows that to deprive an enemy of their fleets is to deprive them of all means by which to do war - and it is there that the Yastreb truly excels.

    The first thing one may say for the Baklan is that it is certainly not a vessel to be trifled with. While nowhere near as widespread as the Yastreb, this formidable craft pushes combat gradients in the Union's favour by its mere presence. Its central Accelerator is terrifying to behold, even in comparison to the battleship-rending implement of destruction mounted on its heavy cruiser cousin. Unique among even its rather distinctive armament class, the ultraheavy shells it fires are fitted with their own, staged sub-Loci, resulting in the maintenance of a spatial distension bubble around the projectile as it travels. The effect is twofold - to begin with, as the shell is inevitably sheared into a superheated beam, it is granted its own rudimentary form of semi-directed FTL, making it highly problematic to respond to for any civilization not possessive of ludicrously advanced sensing and interception capabilities. The bubble itself provides a notable secondary benefit, in the form of the warp-shockwaves it creates while in transit. These will often knock out sensing equipment, destabilize FTL lanes and even outright destroy smaller vessels merely by the relative proximity of the beam's passing. And the Baklan is not content to merely stop there - its four secondary spinal Accelerators are still capable of pounding ships of practically any size into minute fragments, and the plentiful supplementary armaments it fields, alongside its sizeable strikecraft wing, make up for any shortcomings its non-turreted arms may have in defending the vessel from more maneuverable, close-in targets.
