[WIP] The National Astronomical Research and Exploration Administration of Overthinkers (AstrOT)
"Since the beginning, mankind has looked to the heavens. Nothing can compare to its beauty, its vastness, the way it emphasizes how small humankind is in the eyes of the universe. And we have always wondered, 'Is there something else out there? Someone?" And that question is the reason AstrOT exists."
—Dr. Misti Duncan, AstrOT Director 1413-1419
The National Astronomical Research and Exploration Administration of Overthinkers (AstrOT) (not to be confused with the now-defunded National Gastronomical Research and Exploration Administration of Overthinkers) is a semi-autonomous agency of the Overthinking national government.
AstrOT was founded in 1351 by Parliament in response to widespread demand among scientists and non-scientists alike. It is not yet confirmed whether or not the Lewis Cooper film Aliens in Aurum (1349) and its depictions of attractive extraterrestrial women was a major factor in the campaign. The administration was launched under the oversight of Dr. Christopher Walden (1301-1392), who served as its director until his retirement in 1386.
AstrOT is partly funded by the Overthinking government, partly by private donors. It is operated by a board of 13 members. Presently the program is led by Dr. Brian Roberts, who was appointed to the job in 1419.
