Equipment of the Super Mutant Army (Updated)

Weapons:

Primary Weapons

AER9 Laser Rifle

The AER9 was actually not the top laser rifle in service at the time of the Great War. The model line went up to the state-of-the-art AER12, which saw service in a handful of specialty units. The reason that the AER9 is much more commonly found is that it was much sturdier and more reliable than the models that followed.

The AER9 features a titanium housed crystal array which proved to withstand long years of exposure to the elements much better than the gold alloy housing of the later models. As a result, the crystal arrays stayed focused within operating parameters, rather than falling completely out of focus like the newer models. Power is drawn from microfusion cells and processed through a wave/particle diverter manufactured by General Atomics International. The diverters are protected by a carbon-fiber housing, preventing frequent malfunction, but when a diverter fails the weapon becomes unusable.

As with all energy weapons, the AER9 can suffer from poor performance if not properly maintained. The crystal arrays and non-mechanical components are delicate and if not properly serviced can lead to a loss of beam intensity, overheating, and energy regulation failure.

AER9B Tri-Beam Laser Rifle

The tri-beam laser rifle has the appearance of a "sawed-off" laser rifle, missing the tube on the bottom length of the barrel, being rather shorter than other models, and having a new emitter aperture and attached wires. The new emitter fires three laser beams with each shot.

AER9C Laser Carbine

The laser carbine has the appearance of a shortened laser rifle, being rather shorter than other models, and having a new emitter aperture and attached wires. It accepts two microfusion cells rather than one. It is capable of automatic fire, but this overheats the overall system. Aftermarket parts were developed that alleviate this issue, including additional capacitors, but they came out late enough that the weapon's reputation for being unreliable was already there.

AK-112

The AK-112 assault rifle is a military assault rifle of Soviet origin that was in service during the early 21st century. Chambered for 5mm ammunition, it utilizes a 24-round magazine. The AK-112 was eventually considered aged and was scheduled to be replaced just prior to the Great War.

China Lake

The China Lake grenade launcher is a pump-action operated weapon, firing 40mm grenades from a tubular magazine.

DKS-501 .308 Sniper Rifle

This sniper rifle is an older model of the famed DKS-501. Chambered for .308 ammunition, it's also extremely fragile and requires regular repair and maintenance to keep it in working condition.

Fat Man

The M42 Fat Man was developed at Fort Strong near Boston, Massachusetts. Development began in February 2076, with the goal being the development of a man-portable tactical nuclear launcher easy enough for use by troops on the ground, to destroy reinforced and entrenched positions. The Fat Man is a shoulder-mounted tactical nuclear catapult. It is heavy, especially when combined with its mini nuke ammunition, but very powerful.

The weapon can be used for indirect fire over a considerable distance.

Flambe 450

A Flambe 450 model flamethrower, varmiter variation. Fires a short spray of extremely hot, flammable liquid. Requires specialized fuel to work properly.

FN FAL

The FN FAL, short for Fusil Automatique Léger (light automatic rifle), is a selective-fire battle rifle produced by the Belgian arms manufacturer Fabrique Nationale de Herstal (FN). This rifle has been more widely used by armed forces than any other rifle in history.

Glock 92 Pulse Streamer

The Glock 92 pulse streamer, as a follow-up to the Glock 72. It was slightly more successful, and purchased in small numbers by the U.S. military. Another 200 were going to be shipped to the U.S. for military use prior to the Great War, but this shipment was interrupted by the Great War breaking out.

An H&K P800 laser machine gun. Built for military use shortly after the the Sino-American War, and used in small quantities to fend off the Chinese during the invasion of Alaska.

L86A1 LSW

This squad-level support weapon has a bullpup design. The bullpup design makes it difficult to use while lying down. Because of this it was remanded to National Guard units. It, however, earned a reputation as a reliable weapon that packs a lot of punch for its size.

Laser Assisted Electrical Rifle

Originally developed by the Think Tank at Big Mountain Research and Development Center, a very small number were sent to New York City for military use.

Laser RCW

The unique feature of this "laser assault rifle" is the addition of a "drum," which gives this weapon its unique look, high rate of fire, and unusual name.

This drum contains a bank of 6 capacitors in a circle formation, centered around an electron charge pack (ECP). The capacitors in the drum are rotated as they fire in succession, producing a single continuous laser beam. While each capacitor is firing, the ECP is used to recharge the previously discharged capacitors.

This capacitor rotation allows the Laser RCW (rapid capacitor weapon) to operate like a multi-barreled ballistic weapon (for example, the minigun), and avoids the rate-of-fire limitations imposed by a single capacitor design. This high rate of fire restricts the Laser RCW to using only the ECP ammunition type.

M60

This relatively light machine gun was prized by militaries around for world for its high rate of fire. This reliable, battlefield-proven design, was used on vehicles and for squad level fire-support.

M72 Gauss Rifle

The M72 rifle is of German design. It uses an electromagnetic field to propel rounds at tremendous speed... and pierce almost any obstacle. Its range, accuracy and stopping power is almost unparalleled.

M79 Grenade Rifle

The M79 grenade rifle is a break-action, single-shot grenade launcher developed in the early '60's.

Pancor Jackhammer

The Jackhammer, despite its name, is an easy to control shotgun, even when fired on full automatic. The popular bullpup design, which places the magazine behind the trigger, makes the weapon well balanced & easy to control.

PGM Anti-Materiel Rifle

This weapon is a .50 caliber bolt-action sniper rifle that is designed for use against military equipment (or "materiel" in military terminology). The PGM AMR is similar in design principle to that of a sniper rifle, delivering a high power shot at long distances with great accuracy, although chambered in a larger caliber for hardened targets.

R82A4 Battle Rifle

The R Series of combat assault rifles was used reliably following the discontinuation of the M Series in the early 21st century. Rockwell CZ53 Minigun

A Rockwell CZ53 personal minigun is capable of firing 5mm ammunition at over 60,000 RPM. The CZ53 personal minigun makes up for the small 5mm round by sending a hail of bullets toward its target. Its sheer size, coupled with its trademark sound, is enough to send anyone in its path running for cover. It's a great weapon for suppressing fire, letting others flank the unsuspecting enemy.[2] When the Great War struck, it was already an aging design and was slowly being replaced the more advanced CZ57 Avenger minigun. Later models of the CZ53 have six barrels linked into pairs, with four barrels on top and two on the bottom, a cage underneath the weapon to hold an ammo box containing 240 5mm rounds, and used in combination with a backpack.

SMMG

The shoulder mounted machine gun is essentially a shoulder-mounted minigun. It is chamberered to use 10mm rounds and has a low rate of fire compared to other heavy automatic weapons.

AEP7

The AEP7 laser pistol was put into service to replace the AEP5 model. With a generous battery size, tight shot grouping at range, resilience to extended use, and fairly decent damage output, it is a very good choice for a sidearm.

As the successor to the AEP5, it boasted a redesigned focusing crystal pattern, an improved photonic focusing chamber, and selectable laser focus, wavelength, pulse energy and repetition rate. In addition, it was lighter and less bulky than its predecessor and was perceived as a step toward replacing the N99 10mm pistol with a laser weapon as the standard issue sidearm for military forces.

The AEP7 was produced in large numbers thanks to newly developed manufacturing technologies in the United States, although logistics and supply issues (caused by prolonged war with China) prevented its wide-scale deployment.

Gyrojet Pistol

One of several gyrojet weapons developed in the '60's, which functions by firing a miniaturized rocket, rather than a bullet.

N99 10mm Pistol

After the phase out of the N80 in 2051, the N99 sidearm became standard issue military gear. The N99 was known for its ability to survive in the harshest of conditions and did so in many tests, as the weapon was reliably able to be restored to working condition after an extended period of time exposed to hard elements and without maintenance.

The N99 proved to stand up to its claims and as a result is one of the most common weapons found in use in the wasteland. While many civilian weapons were ruined beyond use in the extreme conditions following the War, the N99 is commonly able to be easily restored to working order by anyone with even the most basic knowledge of firearm mechanics.

PPK12 Gauss Pistol

Praised for its range and stopping power, the PPK12 Gauss Pistol is of German design. The pistol uses an electromagnetic field to propel rounds at tremendous speed and punch through almost any armor.

Wattz 1000b Laser Pistol

A Wattz 1000b laser pistol. This is a military and police model, so the wattage is higher than the civilian version. It uses a weak crystal array for focusing the laser beam, and magnetic focusing field, allowing it to cut through armor with a decent degree of effectiveness. For security, it can be locked down for transport, with a proper arming sequence needed to render it operable again.

Melee and Unarmed
