OSEAN - Overview (WIP)
The Organisation of Strategically and Economically Aligned Nations (OSEAN) is an economic, political, and military alliance of 25 nation states located across Strangereal.
OSEAN seeks to bring about a monetary union in which OSEAN nations use one commonly traded currency—the OSEAN Standard Unit (OSU; ₴). This common market and the economic region it and its associated partner nations form is known as the OSEAN Standard Cooperation Area (OSCA). The alliance also constitutes a system of collective defense whereby its independent member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. Unique among the alliances of Strangereal, OSEAN maintains its own professional military force recruited from citizens of member nations and funded for in whole by tariffs levied on trade with the OSEAN economic bloc.
The alliance's headquarters are located in the city of Chengde; capital city of founding member the Empire of the Great Song.
The Organisation of Strategically and Economically Aligned Nations traces its history back to the Osean continental union known as the Osean League (OL). The OL was created by a merger of 6 contemporary Osean nations1 and the Union of Federative States (UFS)2 on the 10th of July 2018 with the aim of stabilising hitherto growing tensions within the region and uniting the Osean continent under a single alliance. The first official charter of the Osean League was established 3 days later on the 13th of July.

Although the OL was successful in recruiting the nations of Osea under its banner, with 25 member states by the beginning of August, its rapid expansion proved threatening to the established alliances of Strangereal. In particular, the Lotion Union of Nations (LUN), formerly the Lotion Defense Pact and former ally of the OL, rescinded their agreement permitting dual membership between the two alliances as it perceived the divide in the loyalties of its members as undermining the LUN's system of collective defense. Similarly, attempts by the OL to subsume the Haven League's3 (HL) sphere of influence- including an independent arrangement between the OL and the member nation of Austro-Germanic Union (AGU) to host OL garrisons in the latter without the prior notification of the HL, led to worsening relations between the OL and HL. Tensions rose to a head on the 9th of September with a surprise ultimatum from the Lotion Empire in which Tsar Lotion the 6th demanded that the Osean League permanently expel the majority of its members within 24 hours and cease its efforts to recruit nations in the following months or face war with the Lotion Union of Nations, the Haven League, and the Warsaw Pact- i.e. every other major alliance on Strangereal. Despite the deliberately unreasonable timeframe in which the ultimatum was offered, an eleventh hour attempt to prevent war by ejecting 11 OL member states was passed by the Osean League's 1st Secretary. In spite of this, war was declared on the Osean League on the 10th of September 2018 by the Lotionese Empire and her allies.
