Life in the United States before the nuclear bombs dropped

Before the nuclear bombs dropped, the United States of America was the world's one super power and the one that lead the whole western world, and was looked at as the leader of democracy and freedom across the world. However, when the war was in it's 10th year in 2050, the American people started to call for a peace, saying that the war was a civil war at first and that N.A.T.O, the C.S.T.O, and the People's Republic of China should have not gotten into it. At first, the United States government allowed the people to protest, but after a few times of them stopping men from leaving ports and causing problem for the United States Military, the nation started to stop its people from protesting and started to get rid of their free speech. And a few days before the bombs were dropped, it seemed that the United States was about to go into another civil war, but before people could start a coup and try to take the government for themselves, the bombs dropped and the world ended in nuclear radiation for about 70 years, and even now the radiation only got smaller, it did not go away.

That is why today, in the year 2145, the Union of the Middle Lands is a small group of communes, because it does not want to become what the United States(once the leader of the free world) ended up becoming.
