History

Pre-Opening

What became the Alta Zoo started out as the King's private hunting grounds back when Polar Svalbard was still the Kingdom of Zazchey. There are documents stretching back to the 1300s noting that the lands were well managed in order to provide for a good hunting area for the King at the time. Around the late 1600s, the lands were turned more into park areas and still a bit of hunting grounds, but it became more of a place for royalty to stay. Soon though it also became an area that Kings would store exotic animals that the royalty would receive from foreign delegations, from exhibitions that the royalty sent out around the world, and as gifts from nobles around the Kingdom.

The King's Park, as it was called, became a source of pride for both the King and nation and even commoners were allowed to go to the park to see the animals. When foreign delegations would arrive the royalty would show them around the park, many wrote stories and excerpts about the park. As such the animals in the park were well document and the park was talked about all over the nation and outside of it.

In the aftermath of the Uprising of the Wolves and the deposition of the monarchy it was needed to be decided what to do with the park. It was decided to turn it into a national zoo due to it being such a source of national pride, plus it was seen as a deliberate affront to the deposed monarchy.
