World Assembly Woes

Liberty City (LTC) -- An anonymous source within the Steele Administration has confirmed to the Libertitan Times-Citizen that President Jayson Steele is considering sending a proposal to the Libertitan National Assembly that would withdraw Libertitus from the World Assembly.

The president is concerned about recent international directives that show preference to certain citizens, as well as a recent vote that saw the WA fail to condemn Antifa; which Libertitus officially views as a terrorist organization.

Libertitus World Assembly Ambassador Katherine Harrison would not confirm or deny the rumors, but issued a written statement to media outlets on Tuesday.

"First of all, I want to remind our citizens that the Steele Administration absolutely sees value in the World Assembly. Our planet consists of many diverse nations, citizens, and cultures. That being the case, it is only logical and reasonable to have a diplomatic arena in which world leaders can come together to solve problems, or discuss how to best move humanity forward. We believe this is the goal of all nations, regardless of how varied our ideas may be regarding how to get there.

In spite of these truths, there have been some binding WA decisions that trouble the administration, and should trouble the Libertitan people. When international laws are passed that give special privileges or recognition to certain members of a society but not others, we must stand in opposition.

I, and the administration, fully recognize the importance of standing up for the rights of individuals who are members of a class that has been disparaged in the past. But we cannot allow past discrimination to be rectified by further discrimination or preferential treatment to the affected group.

Further, when the WA fails to condemn organizations that are officially labeled terrorist groups by this administration, we cannot sit idly by while the WA gives them tacit approval.

The citizens of Free Libertitus can rest assured that the president and I are working to ensure that we maintain excellent diplomatic relations with as many nations as possible, while protecting the rights and interests of our top priority -- the Libertitan people."

President Steele did not comment on this issue during a Wednesday afternoon press conference in the Presidential Mansion's Zen Garden, and he ignored questions shouted by reporters as he left.
