In 1881, the Kempeitai was founded as a Conventional Military Police Force, it's duties were routinely expanded from simple military policing duties to becoming the national police force for the whole of the Japanese Empire since the assimilation of Korea in 1910, afterwards the Kempeitai was more prominent in Japanese society starting in the 1930s when the Shogunate had caught up in a new wave of nationalist fervour still felt in 2019.
In 1936 the Japanese Empire signed a secret treaty with Germany now just three years into it's dictatorship under Hitler, Kempeitai agents were sent abroad to learn new techniques under the Gestapo while the Gestapo sent agents and assisted in streamlining the Kempeitai's own system to make it more efficient, introducing multiple elements to further the Kempeitai's ability to keep tabs on Japanese citizens. This was further expanded in 1938 after the Japanese incorporation of the Republic of China into an alliance for the forecoming war against the west. After the Japanese attack and subsequent invasion of Hawaii, the Japanese expanded the role of the Kempeitai to act as conventional general police.
In 1942 after a Japanese envoy was informed of the existence of certain "concentration camps", the Japanese withdrew from it's alliance with the Germans. Continuing it's war alone, Japan forced Australia, New Zealand, and multiple other nations in the Pacific to either submit or withdraw from the war, with a new civil war in the Soviet Union, the Imperial Army and the National Revolutionary Army of China took full advantage of the chaos and the Soviet withdraw of forces from Mongolia and the far east, the Imperial Army with the National Revolutionary Army took as much territory as they could before the Russians, now named Parcians turned against the Japanese in vain, much to the dismay of the newly crowned Tsarina, the Japanese had solidified their defensive positions with anti-tank traps, anti-personnel mines, machine gun pillboxes, and hundreds of thousands of artillery positions in the way, with the western front taken care of and a peace treaty being worked out.
The Japanese focused finally on the United States with multiple offensives from late 1942 to 43 before a lul was had in the fighting with the Japanese having taken Midway and pushed the United States from the Solomon Islands and surrounding area, then finally after a repelled attack on the Philippines in 1944, the Japanese began pushing towards the United States, landing successfully in Alaska and Baja, after Australia's folding/capitulation from the war, the British turned their focus and the focus of most commonwealth countries on Germany, leaving Canada open to invasion.
However by the foresight of Shogun Yashiro Kujou, Canada was spared from invasion and guaranteed to be spared from future invasion. After the Japanese invasion of the Western coast of the United States, the Imperial Army crushed resistance against the American military while it was focused on ending the war in Europe to then turn it's full attention on the Japanese/Chinese alliance. By the time the Germans were defeated, the whole of the western coast of the United States was taken by the Japanese with it's defensive positions solidified with captured equipment and new equipment imported from the Japanese Mainland and captured Parcian equipment, the US sued for peace with Japan taking the territory won in what was now called the "Asia-Pacific War 1941-45".
Current Operational History
After the end of the war, the Imperial Japanese Army crushed all resistance, both official police and military remnants, and partisans that took up arms against the Japanese, the Kempeitai followed suit and took over as the general police of the newly occupied territories with them continuing the suppression operations against resistance forces. In 2000 the Kempeitai was bolstered with Imperial Japanese Army forces after a large scale riot in Seattle.
With the suppression carried out and the American populace in the Pacific States put back into place, the Kempeitai began focusing it's efforts on insuring no such large scale riots or protests would again take place with the rest of the early 2000s relatively quiet up unto 2018 when a small revolt took place again in Seattle upon the visit of the Emperor and the Shogun, Yuuhi Koubuin for a Victory in America parade, after the parade a riot broke out before being swiftly cast down by the Kempeitai, Imperial Royal Guard, and Imperial Army, with the IRG taking the forefront. With the IRG's inclusion in operations, the populace quickly submitted out of fear of the IRG.
With the recent troubles with resistance against the Japanese Empire in the Pacific States, a new head inspector-general of the Kempeitai was appointed by the Shogunate over General Ogami Ritsuko of the Kempeitai, this new IG, Anabuki Mariko, General Ritsuko's second in command.(See People of Interest)
