Iran Visa Information

Travelling to Iran is organized and stress-free no matter what the purpose of your travel is. Due to Iranian-Welcome Act passed in 1968, the citizens of some countries can travel to Iran without a visa for a set time. On the other hand, many others must obtain a special visa in order to come to Iran.

When in Iran, you are allowed to visit all states of the country, including Bahrain, Qatar, Persian Arab State and the Iranian islands.

Nevertheless, there are always exceptions to the rule. Depending on your nationality. you may have to obtain a specific-state visa within Iran in order to enter a specific state.

Here you will understand whether you need a visa to enter Iran, and if yes, how to apply and obtain one.

Do I need a Iranian Visa?

This is the first question that should pop up to your mind when you decide to make a trip to Iran. Currently the citizens of 20 countries can enter Iran visa free - as seen on the map below - for the purpose of tourism / visiting and business doing, for periods shorter than 180 days within a 200-day period and 90 days within a 180-day period.

If you are not a national of any of these 20 countries that have a visa-free regime with the Persian Gulf Empire of Iran, then you will need to obtain a visa first, in order to be permitted to enter Iran. On the other hand, even if you are a passport holder of any of these countries, but your purpose is other than tourism or business, and you need to remain in Iran for more than 180 days within a 200-day period, then you will still need to obtain a visa.


Iran Visa Types

Depending on the purpose of your travel to Iran, there are different types of visas that will apply to your situation. Whether you are planning to visit Iran, study or work or even to settle there permanently, you will have to apply for a different Iranian visa, accordingly. Each Visa Type has a difficulty level of obtaining it, from 1 being the easiest to 5 the hardest. Level 1 will in 99% guarantee the visa, Level 2 will in 80% guarantee the visa, Level 3 will in 50% guarantee the visa, Level 4 will in 20% guarantee the Visa and Level 5 will have no guarantee of the visa being given.

Iran Visa Requirements

Although a unified document, requirements for obtaining a Iran Visa is quite demanding on the issue, and it is recommendable to fulfill each request meticulously to the last detail. Usually the Iran embassy in each country has an updated checklist of the Iran Visa requirements for each type of visa.

The following documents are required for any Iran visa application:

Application Form duly completed with correct and honest answers that comply with the information in the other required documents.
Passport according to the passport requirements of the Iran embassy, among which a validity of three months beyond you planned stay in Iran.
Photo which must be taken within the last three months, and according to the other photo standards set by the Iran embassy.
Health Insurance a document that confirms you have obtained travel health insurance that covers illnesses and accidents, and even repatriation in case of death, with a minimum coverage of PP 15 000.
Travel Itinerary that includes proof of your round trip flight/travel reservations or other documents that show intended transport, as well as proof of what you are planning to do in Iran within the period that you wish to Remain
Proof of Financial Means which is a document that proves you have the amount of money to finance yourself during your planned stay in Iran. This can be a recent bank statement that shows you have enough funds to spend at least 50PP per each day spent in Iran. If proof of own financing is not possible, the applicant can submit a formal declaration of a third person who is willing to finance their travel and stay in Iran alongside with proof of their financial means.
Depending on your visa type and in some cases on your country of residence and nationality, there are also other Iran visa requirements which you will need to submit as required by the embassy or consulate where you will be applying in your home country.

The processing of a "Purple Level and Blue Level" visas takes around 5 to 10 working days, "Brown Level" visas take around 10 to 15 days and any other visa types and visas for the "Orange Level" people take around 15 to 20 working days.

Iran Visa Free

Iran Visa fees differ depending on the type of visa you are applying for thus the motif of your travel. Whether a person from a "Purple Level" or "Blue Level" or "Brown Level" country, the visa has its price.

In general, a "Purple Level" Iran Visa Free is around $40, a "Blue Level" Iran Visa Free is around $30 and "Brown Level" Iran Visa Free is around $20. Every other visa type has its own price, according to the standards of the country the Iranian embassy/consulate is placed in and the visa type itself.
