Vibor National Air Force

The Vibor National Air Force (VNAF) is the aerial warfare force of Vibor and one of the four branches of the Vibor Military. It main purpose is to serve as enforcer of Vibor airspace and to provide air support to Vibor ground troops and Navy ships on the battlefield.

History

The VNAF was created on July 1, 1921 once the the Great War Defence Act was signed. Because of the escalating international tension during the 1930s the Air Force was reorganised and expanded from four to seven squadrons. When World War II broke out in 1939, further expansion was initiated and this substantial expansion was not finished until the end of the war. Although Vibor never entered the war, a large air force was considered necessary to ward off the threat of invasion and to resist pressure through military threats from the great powers. By 1945 the VNAF had over 800 combat-ready aircraft, including 15 fighter divisions.

The VNAF underwent a rapid modernisation after 1945. The force purchased the best it could find from abroad; including the US AirForce, British RAF and French Armée de l'Air. In the late 1950s the air force introduced several new airbases, bomber capable runways and increased recruitment. During the Cold War large amounts of money were spent on the VNAF and domestic airplane production. From 1955 - 1989, Vibor had 850 aircraft, 22,000 personnel and new radar detection systems.

Today, the VNAF has 265 operational aircraft and around 12,550 full time personnel. The VNAF has two combat air-wings, an air mobility wing, logistics wing, search and rescue wing and a headquarters command wing. The Combat Wings contain multiple squadrons each made up of multi-role fighters. The Air Mobility and Logistics Wing provide transport and supplies for the force, with the Search and Rescue Wing providing 24-7 rescue services to the citizens of Vibor.

Organisation

Today, the VNAF is structured into five groups known as Air-Wings:

Strike 1-1 (Fighter Wing)
Strike 1-2 (Fighter Wing)
Pegasus 61 (Air Mobility Wing)
Condor 24 (Logistics Wing)
Rescue 99 (Search & Rescue Wing)
VNAF Command (Headquarters Wing)

Each Wing is stationed on it's own Air Bases across Vibor , with the exception of Rescue 99 who has multiple air bases to provide nationwide rescue cover.
