Religion

The Cacelian religion is called Ryd. The belief centers around the ancient hero Ryden the Dragonslayer who used an enchanted red cross to defeat the Dragon Merradia. During that time Merradia was laying waste to the many small city-states throughout ancient Cacelia and many heroes from around the world had vanquished trying to defeat her, including the famous Cayde of the White Hart and Laecie of the Lake.

Ryden battled Merradia for many days until finally defeating her and uniting the tribes of Cacelia in the process. He achieved immortality and became the first King of Cacelia, ruling it for many years until he passed the throne on to Lord Ashter Launceor, whose family has ruled Cacelia ever since.

It is not known where Ryden the Dragonslayer went after passing the throne to Lord Launceor, however followers of the Ryd faith believe that he continues to watch over Cacelia and the red cross is considered a sacred symbol, adorning many a coat of arms as well as serving as the Crown Princess' own device - a miniature enchanted version of the red cross adorns the armor of Iola, and it is believed that it was given to her by Ryden himself while she was adventuring in the Roith mountain range.
