UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The Flag of the People's Commonwealth of Ankuran, commonly referred to as the Ankuran Flag, is the national flag of Ankuran. It is split horizontally into an upper half of blood red and a lower half of black, and further quartered by a slim white symmetric cross. It is charged with golden cog-and-spanner and key atop a green laurel wreath. In the bottom-right of the lower canton opposite the hoist is a white fleur-d'etoile.

Design and Meaning

The current flag of Ankuran was designed by François Duvalier du Loc, a French expatriate and outspoken socialist immigrated to Ankuran in 1925. Following a public referendum, the fledgling Ministry of Culture declared it would be taking submissions for a new national flag. Du Loc eagerly began work on a new design that married elements of socialist heraldry with traditional western European heraldry and vexillology. Though derided by vexillologists and anti-socialist spokespeople alike, the du Loc flag would go on to win the national vote in 1939 and be adopted as Ankuran's new national flag. Though slight changes have been made to the du Loc flag since its adoption, mostly slight alterations to the exact colors used as technology became more advanced, du Loc's original design has been in use since its official adoption following the Ankuran presidential election of 1940.

Meaning
According to du Loc, each element of the flag is afforded a different meaning. The black is in remembrance of the revolutions that granted Ankuran its independents: the New Belgian Revolution and the Ankuran Revolution. The bottom-right canton in particular is meant to immortalize the Ankuran Revolution, as it bears a strong resemblance to the Black Flower flag used by New Belgian rebels. The blood red represents the strength and fortitude of the Ankuran people, while its position above the black symbolizes rising above hardship and gaining strength from strife. The white symmetric cross symbolizes the continuing peace, prosperity, and safety of all Ankurani. The golden Cog-and-Spanner and Key device is meant to symbolize the union of administration and production under the Ankuran people, and is intentionally reminiscent of the Linkhammer and sickle device ubiquitous in socialist heraldry. Though the laurel was not attributed a distinct meaning by du Loc during the design process, he would later claim it represented the sovereignty of the People's Commonwealth (then the People's Republic) and the authority invested in the government of Ankuran by its citizens.
