Aozoratarianism is the unofficial designation for a set of ideological beliefs, most notably held by Aozora Chiyumi, Supreme Overlady of All Reality. Indeed, the name itself originated from a portmanteau of the words “Aozora” and “authoritarianism.” Although the belief system is only primarily held in a single nation- Kyoki Chudoku- it has nonetheless had significant influence on several world events. At its core, Aozoratarianism is a highly authoritarian doctrine with a distinct apathy towards certain freedoms, but a general disregard for civil and political rights. It is also known for its focus on an “order vs chaos” axis, effectively a recategorisation of the “authority vs liberty” axis. While the Supreme Overlady of All Reality herself is the most dominant proponent of Aozoratarian beliefs, several other major Chudokuren figures do follow them to a considerable extent. Due to the origin of the system, however, there exists an extraordinary deficit of unbiased scholars on the subject.
Aozoratarianism operates based on several fundamental principles.
Order Over Chaos: Chaos, in all its forms, must be opposed in order to maintain order. Aozoratarians consider a large amount of things to be “chaotic”, including but not limited to: rebellion, treason, democratic and anarchic government systems, imperialism, civil wars, malevolent use of magic. Order is the best way to oppose chaos, and therefore sacrifices made in the name of order are not only acceptable, but necessary.
Tyranny Is Unity: Tyranny is not a term for unnecessarily psychotic or brutal dictatorship to an Aozoratarian, but rather a word that refers to any significantly authoritarian ideology. Tyranny is the best way to achieve unity, which itself is an essential component of establishing and maintaining order. Organisations which oppose tyranny thus oppose order, and thus endorse chaos.
State Over Self: The nation is more important than the individual. Therefore, the individual should follow the instructions of the nation to the best of their ability, in exchange for the security and order the nation offers them.
Defiance Equals Treason: To defy the nation is betrayal, a dangerous form of chaos. As such, any defiance of the nation is considered treason, and treated as such. For this reason, Aozoratarians will refer to criminals and rebels of any kind of “traitors” to their nation, regardless of the severity. While some lenience is tolerable for the most minor offences, punishment remains necessary for even the slightest infraction.
Overwhelming Retribution: If an individual commits a malevolent act, the retribution they face must exceed the harm they caused. This is embodied by the Chudokuren judicial system, in which crimes such as theft are punished with torturous nekofication that leaves permanent markings, and most especially in punishments designed for ironic justice. For example, arsonists are slowly burnt alive. Another example is the way that murderers are tortured before their execution.
Focused Retribution: As a counterpoint to the above, in general, only those responsible for treason should be punished for it. Those who happen to be related to a criminal should not be assumed guilty not used as a means of punishment needlessly, as harming genuinely innocent and obedient citizens is counterproductive to order and in fact incites further chaos.
Self-Sufficiency: As much as possible, the nation should seek to avoid relying on foreign powers, even allied ones, to sustain itself. Making use of foreign powers is acceptable, and making allies with similarly aligned powers is beneficial for world order, but depending upon them to maintain the nation should be avoided wherever possible.
Integrity of Reality: The stability of reality is essential for order, and should be maintained. As such, users of magic who result in damage to reality should be contained or eliminated for the continued security of all reality. Damage to reality itself is the among the highest forms of chaos and should therefore be prevented at every opportunity.
Necessity Over Humanity: In desperate situations, inhumane acts are permitted entirely. Aozoratarians do not believe in concepts such as inhuman experiments and war crimes, as long as those targeted are chaotic or treacherous and thus considered to be undeserving of any form of mercy. This philosophy leads to the development of biological weapons, the use of chemical weapons in war on a regular basis, and the use of human test subjects in all stages of medical experimentation. It is worth noting that this does not oppose the “order vs chaos” axis- chemical weapons for example are not by nature chaotic or orderly, but can be used to instigate either, as can any weapon.
Absolute Authority: The ruler of a nation, while they may have advisors and guidelines, should not be restricted from making decisions for their nation, and should rule with an iron fist to ensure that order is upheld. Aozoratarians criticise democratic systems for being based on division rather than unity- in effect, they believe that in democracies, people within the same nation are forced to oppose each other on a constant basis, which results in rampant disorder. However, it is worth noting that Aozoratarians do not believe that absolute authority implies exceptional leadership. It is merely a condition for the optimal state of affairs, but it can be subverted by incompetent or insane rulers, who make use of it in a disastrous way, thus inspiring chaos, and thus resulting in a negative opinion from Aozoratarians.
No Unnecessary Discrimination: Beliefs that do not encourage chaos need not be suppressed, and indeed, such discrimination is often conducive towards chaos. For this reason, discrimination based on lines such as gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and so on is highly discouraged.
Several ideologies are relatively compatible with Aozoratarianism owing to several factors. One specific factor is the belief in the horseshoe effect. This, is essence, is the idea that fascism and authoritarian communism have more similarities than differences, and thus authoritarian governments should come together regardless of economic differences. Another reason is the belief in global unity, by which Aozoratarians refers to the idea of tyrants aiding each other to allow for a greater presence of order across the world.
Note that the following assessments are general, and may not apply in all circumstances. Ideologies with a high level of compatibility with Aozoratarianism include:
Ideologies with a moderate level of compatibility with Aozoratarianism include:
Ideologies with a low level of comparability with Aozoratarianism include:
World Domination Seeking
Aozoratarians, to the surprise of few, support other Aozoratarians for obvious reasons.
Absolute Authoritarianism is considered a form of government in which every aspect of the state is devoted for order. These highly tyrannical governments seek to maximise the authority they have over the population, with every action controlled and monitored. These totalitarian regimes, due to their extreme devotion to order, are considered highly compatible with Aozoratarianism. Many criticisms Aozoratarians hold against ideologies based on unnecessary discrimination are suspended when this can be justified as an aspect of total control over the nation, such as in the case of Absolute Authoritarian regimes.
Fascism is considered to be an authoritarian ideology based upon centrist or right-wing economics, generally involving nationalised industries, a focus on national security, and a devotion to enforcing and protecting order. Due to this focus on tyrannical authority, Aozoratarianism is highly compatible with Fascism, as Aozoratarians tend to disregard economic differences in favour of authoritarian similarities.
Authoritarian Communism is considered to be a form of authoritarian government based upon highly controlled left-wing economics. These governments tend to make use of extensive propaganda and an appeal to the glory of the people as a whole. Due to the focus on order, Aozoratarianism tends to have high compatibility with Authoritarian Communism, as similar to Fascism, economic differences are considered irrelevant in favour of authoritarianism similarities.
Stratocracy is considered a form of government where the military is in control of political affairs. These governments tend to be highly authoritarian and with harsh regulations in place. They also tend to have a high focus on military power and security in general. For being consider supportive of order, Stratocratic governments have a high level of compatibility with Aozoratarianism.
Absolute Monarchy is considered a system in which hereditary rule in is in place, and the monarchy has absolute authority over their subjects. The hereditary rule aspect of monarchy is something Aozoratarians criticise, as it can easily lead to succession crises, manipulation by outside powers, and incompetent rulership. However, the order granted by the authority allowed for in Absolute Monarchy gives it a high-medium level of compatibility with Aozoratarianism.
Elective Absolutism is form of oligarchy in which a council of individuals elects a ruler based on particular criteria, who then maintains an absolute rule. Although this can vary largely based on the applicable criteria (spirituality for example would be seen as nothing more than a theocracy), this form of government generally has moderate-high compatibility with Aozoratarianism due to the orderly nature of rulership, even if a ruler is selected in a method that may inspire some concern.
Constitutional Monarchy is considered a system in which hereditary rule is in place, and where the monarch has absolute authority with the exception of a set of regulations with which they are forced to comply. As it allows the ruler considerable authority, this form of government is considered somewhat acceptable, however it is inferior to Absolute Monarchy.
Cryptocracy is considered a form of government where a specific group has actual control over a nation, but conceals this control in favour of a presenting facade that another power is in control. Due to the numerous variations it can take, general perspectives on Cryptocracy are difficult to categorise, and as such it is generally considered moderately compatible with Aozoratarianism.
Nazism is considered a form of government where an authoritarian regime is in place and where minority groups are prosecuted in the name of maintaining the majority’s purity, typically involving genocide. While it is authoritarian, the consistent and excessive needless discrimination reduces this brand of totalitarianism to possess moderate compatibility with Aozoratarianism.
Manipulative Theocracy is a government in which the rulership is determined by religious or spiritual power, but where those ultimately in authority simply use this to keep control over the population. Aozoratarianism tends to be opposed to religion, and thus theocracy. However, this can be partially excused in the case of Manipulative Theocracy, although this still only allows for a moderate-low compatibility with Aozoratarianism.
Authoritarian Oligarchy is considered a government where a select group of people (usually the richest, most intelligent, more popular, or so on) are given control of the nation. Aozoratarians consider this to be effectively a meritocratic form of democracy. In cases where this results in considerable authority, and thus order, the oligarchy is likely to possess a moderate-low compatibility with Aozoratarianism.
Corporate Nationalism is form of government in which a corporation-or a conglomerate thereof, although those is less common- effectively controls the political stance of a nation. Due to the chaotic nature of such a government and its focus on wealth over order, it tends to have medium-low compatibility with Aozoratarianism. It is saved from a lower ranking by the frequent involvement of authoritarian aspects in such government, although Aozoratarians will generally criticise the common purpose of this as simply being further extortion of a population rather than true authority.
Arcanocracy is considered a form of government where the magically empowered rule, whether by virtue of their power or even by using it to directly control the nation. Due to the risks associated with magic, this form of government is generally disliked by Aozoratarians, giving it a low compatibility rating. Some consider it ironic that the rulers of Kyoki Chudoku- themselves all tenshi- may cause their own government to be considered something that Aozoratarianism generally opposes.
Libertarian Oligarchy is considered a form of government where the most powerful in certain area rule the nation. Aozoratarians consider this to be a form of meritocratic democracy, and thus superior to normal democracy, but not by much. Libertarian Oligarchy in particular allows for a significant amount of freedom, and is such poorly compatible with Aozoratarianism.
Libertarian Communism is a form of communism in which the needs and desires of the people are prioritised, and where the nation possesses a controlled economy. Unlike Authoritarian Communism, which focuses on ofer, Libertatian Communism is consisted to be subject to the whims of the people as a whole, and as such chaotic. This leads to a low level of compatibility with Aozoratarianism.
Ceremonial Monarchy is considered any form of monarchy in which the monarch is effectively a celebrity or figurehead, and a separate, typically democratic body has actual control of the nation. Due to the lack of authority held by the ostensible ruler, Aozoratarianism has a low compatibility with Ceremonial Monarchy, typically considered little more than pretentious democracy.
Genuine Theocracy is considered a form of government in which power is held by spiritually or religiously gifted people, and where these beliefs are genuinely held by the rulership, typically with divine right invoked. Genuine Theocracy has a low compatibility with Aozoratarianism due to the general dislike of religion and the fact that this can often lead to unnecessary discrimination whilst holding back in authority in other areas.
Democracy is considered any form of government in which the leadership of the nation is determined by popular vote, and where such voting can determine political decisions. Democracy is seen as rule based on divisional and by the unqualified, and is as such seen as chaotic. Unsurprisingly, democracy has poor compatibility with Aozoratarianism.
Criminal Syndicates are considered to be governments where criminal groups have authority over the affairs of the nation. Due to criminals being considered traitors, Aozoratarians despise such governments regardless of their authoritarianism, as they promote chaos by protecting crime organisations.
World Domination Seeking is considered any form of ideology in which the subjugation, liberation or destruction of the world is both promoted and attempted. To defend the world and thus the order within it from such threats is an obligation in Aozoratarian belief, and thus the ideology has an abysmal compatibility with Aozoratarianism.
Anarchy is considered a form of government in which personal authority of the individual is prioritised and organisation occurs only out of individual desires. Often involving a lack of government at all, Anarchy is the ultimate embodiment of political chaos, and therefore has atrocious compatibility with Aozoratarianism.
One of the central arguments against Aozoratarianism is the debate over “Rule Through Suffering”. In effect, several critics of the ideology (many of whom, it is worth noting, are no longer alive) argue that whole traditional tyranny can be described as rule through fear, Aozoratarianist beliefs embody a kind of rule through suffering, in which the suffering of the population is the primary motivation for compliance, and that this results in the belief system being not only unviable, but malevolent. Supporters of Aozoratarianism will often argue that the only people who suffer are those who deserve suffering- agents of chaos and traitors- and that others instead prosper.
Aozora Chiyumi, Supreme Overlady of All Reality, is the woman after whom Aozoratarianism is named, and by far the most prominent proponent of the ideology. Although she doesn’t necessarily seek to spread the precise Aozoratarian belief system, she does seek to increase order in the universe and considers Aozoratarianism the optimal ideology.
As head of diplomacy of Kyoki Chudoku, Kiku is also known to share Aozora’s ideological views, and presents them rather more often than any other Densetsu (the majority of whom are not known for spreading or justifying the ideology). As a result, she can be considered a somewhat prominent proponent of Aozoratarianism.
