Highton Wins World Cup

CHAMPIONS AT LAST
Crowned Prince: “A moment I will never forget”

Highton claimed their first World Cup title last night following a 4-0 demolition of Territorio di Nessuno. Over 87,000 fans in Highton City’s Cocos’ Park watched on as “National Treasure” Alexís put three past a hopeless Jonas Ivarov, including the first two within fifteen minutes. “It doesn’t matter how we did it- if it was 1-0 or 4-0- we beat the opponents put in front of us and tried to do it in style,” said Alexís with both his Match Ball and Golden Ball in hand. Highton’s other goal came just before the half from 34 year old captain Michael Schultz, who promptly retired from international football after the match. “It can’t possibly get any better than this. I hope our nation can get behind out next captain, regardless of who it is, and take us onward.” In a press conference, manager Eric Wehr praised the supporters saying that “without the excellent support of the Hightonian people, it would not have been possible to accomplish this great feat”. The image of Prince Diego II handing the trophy to Alexís will live in the hearts and minds of Hightonians for years to come as the victory was seen as one of the greatest in recent Hightonian history. “This is a moment I will never forget” said Diego after the match.

Highton’s road to the final was not too easy, needing quite a few heroes along the way and not winning more than one match in ninety minutes until the semifinals. The Blue Cocos scraped through the group stages, needing a late Alexís equalizer against Pollonia to finish second in the group following a 4-2 win over Aldion and a 0-0 draw with Yuubia. Substitute Jordaan Brown’s winner against Triekru in the quarterfinals was his first international goal, setting up a face-off with Deerfenland. Grinding out a 2-1, Highton booked a place in the final on home turf. Last nights result marked undoubtedly Highton’s greatest ever sporting accomplishment, and the match capped off a thrilling road to the trophy every Hightonian dreamed of keeping in Highton City.
