Conway, also known as Conway Incorporated or Conway Inc., is an Alteran multinational technology company specializing in Internet-related services and products. These include online advertising technologies, search, cloud computing, software, and hardware. It is known for creating and running one of the largest search engines on the World Wide Web (WWW), which is used every day more than 200 million (200,000,000) users. Conway's headquarters (called the "Conwayplex") is in Nova Lantea, Alteran Republics; although most of its manufacturing and software development infrastructure is spread across the Alteran Republics, Xrevaro, Athara Magarat, Menna shuli and Ostehaar.

History

Conway was started in early 1996 by Terrance Conway , a students at Lantea University, Altera. The original program was a simple web-interface that helped search the archive of the university's extensive database - it was originally called Balloon. They made it into a company, Conway Inc., on September 7, 1998 at a friend's garage in the newly formed town (which would later become their centre for development) of Talbot, Altera. In February 1999, the company moved to Nova Lantea. Since then, the company has grown in size and moved to a new purposely built complex in 2007 in Nova Lantea, naming the new complex the Conwayplex.

In September 2001, Conway's rating system (PageRank, for saying which information is more helpful) got an Alteran and Noronican Patent. The patent was to Lantea University, with Terrance (Teddy) Conway as the inventor and creator.

Rapid growth since incorporation has triggered a chain of products, acquisitions, and partnerships beyond Conway's core search engine (Conway Search). It offers services designed for work and productivity (Conway Workdesk), email (CMail/Letterbox), scheduling and time management (Conway Calendar), cloud storage (Conway CloudDrive), social networking (myWay), instant messaging and video chat (Conway Chat/Carrier Pigeon), language translation (Conway Translate), mapping and turn-by-turn navigation (Conway Maps), notetaking (Conway Notepad), and photo organizing and editing (Conway Photos). The company leads the development of the Quantum mobile operating system, the Conway Periscope web browser, and Chamelon OS, a lightweight operating system based on a Linux framework for mobile devices. Conway has moved increasingly into hardware; from 2010 to 2015, it partnered with major electronics manufacturers in the production of its Quantia devices. The new hardware chief, Anthony Hertz, stated: "a lot of the innovation that we want to do now ends up requiring controlling the end-to-end user experience".

Conway has also experimented with becoming an Internet carrier. In February 2010, it announced Conway Fibre, a fiber-optic infrastructure that was installed in Talbot and Halbot; in April 2015, it launched Project Andromeda in Altera, combining Wi-Fi and cellular networks from different providers; and in 2016, it announced the Conway Station initiative to make public Wi-Fi around the world, which had already been deployed in Conway.

Conway makes the majority of its money by consumer electronics - although a growing portion of its income is coming from the sale of its Conway manufactured infrastructure projects and video games through its Conway Studios outlet.

The company employs around 24,000 employees, most of who are software and hardware developers - though the number of people employed indirectly through the various manufacturing centres around the globe is estimated to be in the 100,000s. However, this number is set to decline at the company continues to push on with its program of intensive mechanisation.
