Ode Truide Krass

Oh, magnificent grass
Your lush blades and verdant hue
Your delicate, soothing voice
Waving gentle in silky wind anew

You seem too small and fragile
To last from even the night and into day
Yet despite it all you carry on
In your sweet grassy way

Elegantly perched upon jagged rock
Seated calmly beside lapping sea
On this fair earth you grow
Thriving peaceful for all to see

Your rising palms are waiting patiently
To catch rain’s light as it tumbles down
And hold it there for all to witness
Glittering splendour all around

When the morning rises you greet the eyes
With shimmering fields and serenity held
One thousand pleasant swaying arms
Each plant a hope that is never quelled

And when the last sunset falls
When bitter teeth are bared
I will wait here for your return
Never cold and never scared

May you fight like you always have
Returning home with the birds and bees
To our place here on the hill
Over the mountains and past the trees
