The Imperial Diet of Frievolk
The Imperial Diet of Frievolk (Frievolker: Frievolker Reiksdiat) is The Parliament of Frievolk. Legislation is shared between The House of Princes and the House of Folks, the upper and lower houses of the Diet.
The Imperial Diet has the right to make laws except to change the inheritence laws of the Empire's throne, to appoint or dismiss governmental officials, to grant or create titles or estates, to burrow or lend money in the name of the Empire, To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and to force the Emperor to abdicate in certain cases.
The Imperial Diet is divided into two Houses. The Lower house, or the House of Folks (Frievolker: Volkshaus), commonly called Volkshaus, is made of delegates from every state in the Empire of Frievolk. These delegates are elected by the the people of respective states -or lower divisions, such as different provinces in the two kingdoms and dominion-. All Frievolker citizens of above 18 years of age are eligible to vote and any person of above 25 years of age is eligible to run a candidacy for the delegation of their home province or state. The states are not given equal number of delegates, as this number is divided by the population density of the different states. The term of office is set at four years, and the most recent election was held in 2016.
The Upper House, or the House of Princes (Frievolker: Fursthaus), commonly called Fursthaus, is on the other hand, completely and totally hereditary. The House of Princes is made of every person in the country that holds an estate and recognized title, except for the Emperor (or Empress) and their consort. Each member of this house is called a Furst, for example the current Imperial Chancellor, the Duke of Luxembourg, is addressed as 'Furst auf Luxembourg' when directed in a legislative debate.
Just as the Reiksdiat can force an emperor to Abdicate, or to strip a noble of their title or estate (a privilege shared with the Emperor himself), the Emperor also has the right to dissolve the Parliament. Members of the Diet all enjoy legal immunity and indemnity.
