Government shake-up leads region down new path

By: New Bradfordsburg's TRC staff

A new WA Delegate & Governor, Minister of Foreign Affairs and a new position entirely, Lt. Gov., marks the sharpest measure of change in The Radiant's regional government since the end of The War of The Radiants, in October of 2017.

The region's new direction began to take shape this month, when Castonisia defeated the longtime incumbent in a snap election in May. The margin of victory over Odinburgh was slim for Castonisia, but 55 percent of the vote was just enough to steal the race from The Radiant's most revered and longest serving delegate.

The election had the highest turnout of any election in The Radiant's history with 20 council nations voting. Castonisia won by a two vote margin, 11-9.

It was after Castonisia's victory that several calls for change began to be entertained in the region.

Some lobbied for term limits, but informal polls showed that idea failing to gain wide support.

Other voices called for the creation of a Lt. Gov. position, which would serve as second in command in The Radiant's government.

Once again, Odinburgh was on the ballot, but this time in a race against New Nationale Einheit and Zhukovian.

New Nationale Einheit won the race handily, and resigned the ministry of foreign affairs seat.

Now, elections are being held for New Nationale Einheit's former office. Four nations have made their way on the ballot: Odinburgh, once again, The free republic of arconia, The greater atlantic states and Shreminov.

So far, Odinburgh looks like they are in good position to stop their two-election losing streak. Odinburgh leads early voting over The Free Republic of Arconia.

A 'new' world assembly delegate

By: The greater midwest region's TRC staff

Nearly a week after the election of Castonisia, they still haven’t been able to reach their full position.

Castonisia has ascended to the role of Governor but has been unable to become World Assembly delegate, due to an endorsement disparity between Castonisia and the outgoing delegate: Odinburgh. Despite frequent reminders and telegrams from New Nationale Einheit, the Minister of Civil Affairs, Castonisia does not have the necessary endorsements to become delegate as of print time.

Currently, Castonisia has 40 endorsements and Odinburgh has 49.

Evergreen Republic sets startling precedent with use of nuclear weapons
ICBM, tactical nukes are used to target Loki in surprise attack

Samanthalán - As political freedoms continue to slowly but ever so surely rise in New Bradfordsburg, many in the nation have taken to the airwaves to voice their displeasure with the nation's use of nuclear weapons in May.

Those protesting Dux Bradford John's decision are not alone. In The Radiant, several governments have expressed concern about The Evergreen Republic's decision to nuke Loki after they lured the evil-genius to a villa under the guise of a meeting with diplomats in Odinburgh.

The Greater Midwest Region was the loudest in voicing opposition to the use of nuclear weapons.

"The Greater Midwest Region condemns the Evergreen Republic on their rash and drastic actions," the nation's state department posted on the offsite forums.

"This is ludicrous, diplomatic solutions were already being pursued and lives lost could have been avoided," The Greater Midwest Region's president said. "We never support the use of nuclear or chemical weapons, even when we hold the same values as the aggressor. We do not believe in an eye for an eye. We understand that lives were lost and it was a horrible tragedy but it is still not dismissable."

Dux Bradford John contends the use of nuclear weapons were acceptable after a Lokian armada attacked the city of Dáxlam a Alan, a southeastern outpost of The Evergreen Republic.

Over 1.6 million Evergreen Republican nationals were killed in the attack.

According to the Evergreen Department of Defense, roughly 20,000 citizens of Odinburgh were killed when nuclear weapons were used to kill Loki. The Evergreen Republic has apologized to the civilian victims of the attack and offered to pay billions in reparations.

FEATURED NATION: Castonisia Thrives In Moderation

By: The greater midwest region's TRC staff

Our first featured nation of the first volume of The Radiant Chronicle is the DRC, known for founding the SouthEastern Mutual Defense Treaty and the SouthEastern Free Trade Agreement.

We reached out to Castonisia to conduct our first interview and they answered swiftly. We asked them about the history of the DRC and we learned about how the people of Castonisia have been there since 1325 BC! It wasn’t until 450 BC when they got their first official, successful government.

This government was made up of a council of men, Half of the council seats were determined by heredity, and these men decided who would fill in the other 50% of the seats. The council had all the power, they made the laws and collected the taxes. Around the year 0, Castonisia went through The Great Southern War in which a southern part of the region got a little too patriotic and after a war goal fabrication, the Castonisians launched a full scale invasion. The war was brutal and numerous amounts of citizens were killed. In the end though, the northerners won. No peace treaty was ever signed and the area was repopulated with Castonisians.

After The Great Southern War was done and dusted with the area went through a civil war! The aftermath of the civil war lead to the Castolnisian Golden Age, in which massive monuments were constructed, high quality art production flourished, and the food was being made in new and better ways. The Golden Age from 350 AD to 900 AD was extremely beneficial to the country but around 1350 AD, 85% of the country rose up against the government. This lead to the fragmented states period where the was no real centralized government. Until 1642 AD when Hainaus Meneitias was able to form a confederacy out of most of the states.

On August 13th, 1792 The Democratic Republic of Castonisia was formed. Rapid industrial development began in the nation, the economy boomed and Castonisia became a regional power. Now the people of the nation look forward, hopeful and content, knowing their country will thrive throughout the ages.

The goals of Castonisia have been very clear on our off site forums.

“To ensure peace and prosperity within Castonisia and throughout the Radiant, and to end colonialism”- Castonisia

The DRC has been very adamant about making sure everything within their sphere of influence is safe and economically successful. They accomplished this by founding both the SouthEast Free Trade Agreement (SEFTA) and the SouthEast Mutual Defense Treaty (SEMDT).They made a note to remind me that they are still looking for nations in the SouthEast region of our map, to join SEFTA and/or SEMDT. The only requirements for entry are, have territory in the southeastern part of the region (where the southern and eastern hemispheres overlap).Have their capital in the above stated area or directly adjacent to their territory in the said area. If these apply to your nation, we implore you to consider joining!

In conclusion, the Democratic Republic of Castonisia, whose motto gives a nod to thriving environmentally through moderation, is regional power with a rich and distinct past. They have grown economically and in the military field. They strive only for peace and anti-colonialism, they have even been so impactful in our community in our quest for peace that they have even been elected for world assembly delegate and governor.

A wedding in Airol 'fit for a king'
June 3rd to be a happy day for Airolian King Carter Tyler Thomas I

By: The greater midwest region's TRC staff

With doom and gloom taking precedent in The Radiant, every now and then it’s good to hear some good news.

King Carter Tyler Thomas I will be marrying Sacro-Laniakean Jessica Karen Martin on June 3! King Carter and Jessica Martin met in a airport and have been in love ever since!

This is an interesting ceremony as Jessica is not of royal heritage. This is important to the people of Airol because it provides some relief to the citizens of Airol who recently went through a major crisis in which factions rose up against the legitimate government.

After the involvement of South East Mutual Defense Treaty nations, peace was restored and a wedding can happen! The King extended invitations to world leaders to come and enjoy the ceremony. The greater midwest region is sending Congress Members and the President himself to go to the ceremony. We wish them the best as the plan out the massive ceremony and get ready for the union of two lovers!

'Got to give it up'
The Evergreen Republic wheels and deals with neighbors

By: Dux Milan's TRC staff

Isle of catherine - The borders of The Evergreen Republic have proven they're anything but set in stone after a series of landswaps, and land giveaways, have transformed the lives of many who now salute to different flags.

Like the lyrics of the famous Marvin Gaye song, The Evergreen Republic seems to have realized they've 'got to give it up,' it being their most far flung overseas territories.

The land swap train got rolling after The Evergreen Republic acquired the former nation of Volksgarde, a now-defunct island nation to the east of mainland Neue heilige romischeck reich.

New Bradfordsburg said they were interested in swapping the island that once housed Volksgarde for the colony of Tornau, which was The Reich's colony on the eastern border of mainland New Bradfordsburg.

The Reich considered the offer, but wouldn't pull the trigger until Isle of catherine, along with the southern island of Señora Samantha Neña Juána, were also part of the deal.

The Evergreen Republic agreed and the deal included the transfer of control in at least two formed NationStates nations: Isle of catherine became The Reich's and Tornau became The Evergreen Republic's.

Then, soon after, Shreminov expressed interest in seeing an end to the occupation of their lands by Odinburgh, Zhukovian and New Bradfordsburg.

Zhukovian, the smallest land holder in former Shreminov, agreed eagerly. Odinburgh also agreed to release South odinburgh's territory to Shreminov and, after some wrangling over possession of an island chain, New Bradfordsburg gave all of the territory they occupied in mainland Shreminov back to the homeland nation.

In the deal, Shreminov agreed to let The Evergreen Republic keep four islands near shipping lanes that lead to The Evergreen Republic's capital city.

The Evergreen Republic seems to enjoy having Shreminov as a neighbor and it can fairly be said that whatever hatchet existed has been buried. Interestingly, The Evergreen Republic also seems to have perfected the strategy of acquiring lands to deal for things they want.

A new strategy indeed.

'A NEW DAY' FOR THE RADIANT

Vienna - After being elected as the first regional Lieutenant Governor, the leader of Neue Nationale Einheit reiterated his call for "a new day" in The Radiant. Chancellor Achim Godescalc says "a new idea" is needed in regional government, and that requires "new leaders on deck." While he did not support the call for term limits, Godescalc did say that "it is healthy" for regioners to elect who they believe will "best represent their interests." During an interview at the Chancellery in Vienna, he told Anderson Wallace: "I have seen The Radiant become something great, and I am proud to be a part of its mission forward. My advice to my fellow regioners is we must not allow clashing parties and competing interests to rust our image. We must listen to each other, and ultimately do what is right for the region we cherish. Our success is paramount. We may not agree on everything, but we still must lead our region with integrity, clear convictions, and a servant's heart. We are here for The Radiant, so we must have a 'For The Radiant' attitude."

GOING OUT OF CHARACTER
Why We Should Colonize the Moon Before Mars

By: Shreminov's TRC staff

The Moon has been a source of inspiration for the human race since the first day we roamed the Earth. Many different cultures and religions have interpreted this scientific wonder in many interesting ways. But nowadays, people seem more interested about Mars that the good old Moon. People often say “Let’s colonize Mars! It’s humankind's next home!”. But don’t you think the moon could be a better option for colonization? Well, for me and many other space enthusiasts, we think that it could and will be!

First of all, our natural satellite is much closer to Earth than the Red Planet is. Just to give you an idea, the distance between the Earth and the Moon is around 381 500 km, while Mars is at a distance of (as of July 27, 2018) 57.6 million km. This could lower the costs for space agencies (cheaper rockets, less fuel, etc.). NASA also estimated that a permanent colony on the Moon would only cost 10 billions dollars, and, of course, it will take less time to go on the moon than on mars, which means there will be a functioning colony considerably faster.

Secondly, space missions need a lot of fuel and other resources, and that is a big problem to face in space travel. But to solve that problem, some researchers at NASA created Project OASIS. It consists of building small space stations around or on astronomical objects such as moons and planets that will provide spaceships and other satellites with repair, fuel, storage, etc. The Moon would be the station closest to Earth (after the one orbiting the planet), thus building a colony that consists of this station will greatly help space exploration.

Thirdly and lastly, getting to the Moon and colonizing it will require less research time because we already went on manned missions on the Moon, which is not the case with Mars yet. Of course, SpaceX and other space agencies claim that they will send manned missions on Mars by 2020, but that we can’t confirm yet since research is not finished yet . While if we go to the Moon, the only thing we will need to construct will be the rockets and we could simply redo an older model that we already have. Furthermore, building manned rockets to Mars will take more time since it requires better technology and more resources. Therefore, colonizing the moon will reduce research and construction time.

To conclude this short text, colonizing the Moon first has many advantages compared to colonizing Mars. Like I stated in this article, going to the moon requires less resources than going to Mars, the Moon could eventually host a refueling station, and it would take less research and construction time. And you, what do you think should be mankind’s next home?
