The Soviet Socialist Republic of Yitanka is a huge, cultured nation, remarkable for its museums and concert halls, keen interest in outer space, and sprawling nuclear power plants. The hard-nosed, cynical, devout population of 896 million Yitans are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, corrupt, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Syunkau. The average income tax rate is 72.9%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but inefficient Yitankan economy, worth 51.5 trillion shinsens a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is fairly diversified, is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Uranium Mining, Retail, and Trout Farming. Average income is 57,509 shinsens, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

All writing must pass a censorship board before being allowed on the shelves, parents who refuse to vaccinate their children are given a short jail sentence, soldiers are "encouraged" to advance by armed officers behind them, and government agents scour baking periodicals for subversive recipes. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Yitanka's national animal is the orca, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to heavy metals seepage into national waterways.

Yitanka is ranked 171,934th in the world and 1st in Comunipro for Largest Furniture Restoration Industry, scoring 852.17 on the Spitz-Pollish Productivity Index.
