Full Force Structure of the Uli Schwyz Regiment (PT/ 1950)
The Air Wing was at its greatest peak strength during this two decade period but would see a major decrease into the 70's and 80's as the need for skilled pilots waned. Much later, the need would increase again in this current decade and so the Air Wing strength would match its past glory during the WWII and immediate Post-War era.
It was during this phase that the Uli-Schwyz took on their first full regimental contract after the Second World War. Fighting for Chiang Kai Shek, the Uli-Schwyz battled the massive People's Liberation Army, or the Chinese Red Army, with predictable results. As the Kuomintang were driven back, so was the mercenary regiment. Several of them lost their lives, and many others were to spend the last of their short days in Chinese prisons, eventually executed as enemy foreign agents. The Uli-Schwyz were able to pull out, mostly intact as a unit, having learned valuable lessons about the next era of warfare. They were the first, but not the last of Western soldiers to face the mass fanatical swarming tactic of the Chinese communists.
This was both the state of the world and that in which we find the Uli-Schwyz Regiment in the 1950's when they were hired by the Panzermmian Government during the aftermath of the Second Fascist War. A Nationalist Imperial resurgence caught the Panzermmians off guard as they tried to fulfill multiple Post-war commitments simultaneously in different theaters without adequate manpower.
As always, the Regiment used a variety of arms that had been proven in battle with other forces or newer arms given extensive tests at their secret Mediterranean Island Base. After intense analysis, testing and actual success on contracts, their armory and outfitting were pretty much set at the dawn of the new decade...
The Uli-Schwyz soldier going into the 1950's was dressed in a light BDU of olive green tunic and shorts/fatigue pants, or more common in jungle climate during this phase, a camouflage pattern was adopted. Slouch hats made popular by the Australian military were the standard head gear, but helmets similar in style to those used by British paratroopers were in common use, especially by the mechanized and artillery companies. They were armed with the FN-49 as their main battle rifle, with several M1 Carbines also in use. For a close in weapon, the Ithaca 37 Shotgun or the M2A1-2 Flamethrower were utilized, along with the Mk 2 grenade. Sidearms issued were either the
Walther P38 or Browning Hi-Power.
During jungle combat, such as that in the Blackhelm Confederacy, the most common submachine gun in use was the Madsen M-50, but several companies were issued the Sten, Thompson and PPSh-41 SMGs, depending on preference.
For heavier support, platoons were issued Bren machine guns and most companies had at least one Browning M2 team.
