History of Urine Town (only factbook without song lyrics. Don’t read if that’s what you’re here for)

Picture an alternate 1960. Scientists around the world have noticed a suspicious drop in the water table throughout the world. Then, in the 1970s, the global rainfall was less than 20% of what it was before the rain slowed down. In 1974, the United Nations, along with the CDC, WHO, and U.S Congress announced a public health emergency. Over the next six years, people have increasingly taken to hoarding water for themselves. A second Dust Bowl occurred in 1978. Martial law was declared the year after. Food prices skyrocketed to quintuple their typical values. There were mass famines, particularly in poorer regions, and nearly 25% of the worlds population died, including 40% of people in Africa and Asia.

The Stink Years

The Stink Years took place from 1980 to 2000. They reflected the height of worldwide catastrophe. The stealing. The riots. The looting. Earth’s population crashed from 3.5 billion people to less than 10 million people. The UGC remembers this time period fondly. Many current UGC members are former members of the U.S political elite. They relied on taking bribes from workers and other domestic and foreign government officials, before promptly stabbing them in the back. Uh, I mean desperate measures. The last rainfall on Earth occurred in 1999

Water Conservation Communities

The Stink Years largely ended by the start of the 21st century. At this point, the lucky few who survived, ended up migrating to the remaining few areas of population with a water source where they could buy themselves a few years of clinging to the false hope that this wicked, wretched drought will end. The majority of water conservation communities took place in the tropics. One of the most famous communities was set up near Brasilia, which was known for its’ bottled water factories. But because of hot temperatures and zero rainfall, the Amazon River dried up in 2015. Those who chose to settle had to migrate away from the Equator to colder climates where water evaporates slower. Almost everyone died in that process.

Urine Town

Urine Town takes place in an alternate 2027, in what is now the upper peninsula of Michigan. It is one of only a few surviving water conservation communities, relying on the Great Lakes as a water reservoir. At this point, communities are restricted to cold countries with high quantities of fresh water; namely in Canada and Russia. What sets Urine Town apart from these communities was the direct tax on public urination. This was the brainchild of Mr. Cladwell, who started Urine Good Company. Private bathrooms are now a thing of the past thanks to him and the UGC.

Say what you want about Urine Town’s unique methods of water conservation, but because pee is kept off the streets, Urine Town has by far the lowest rates of cholera and typhoid fever as a result of cross contamination. It is currently the only surviving community with over 200,000 people. Every other community is lucky to only have a few thousand individuals.
