Overview:
The modern Kingdom of Toerana, its name taken from the Island on which the Capital sits, was formed after a Millennium of War and loose Confederations that slowly united the Islands, one by one. The Portham Confederation, originally formed in 1245 AD, had slowly been weakening for a 150 years, as the Kingdoms of Poswon, Toerana and North Portham slowly grew. Networks of alliances and vassal states grew until the only nations left within the Confederation. The King Karl I of Toerana, having assurances of support from the King of North Portham, petitioned the Confederation's President to open a summit to discuss the dissolution of the Confederation. With the near unconditional backing of the Islands to their North, a new power sharing agreement was reached, under which a federalised Kingdom was created. While the nation has slowly to centralised over the following centuries, the backbone of the power sharing agreement reached in the mid 1400s still stands as one of the pillars of the nation's constitution.

The Fierce Distrust of outsiders is still a key feature of Toeranan Society, with the nation taking an isolationist stance to Foreign Policy. As the dawn of the new Millennium is reached, King Stephen Karlson II and his Cabinet is slowly beginning to reach out to the international community in its first formal attempt to interact with the global community since the end of the Confederation 600 years prior.
National spirits:
Islonationism
Since the formation of the first alliance against outside powers, the Toeranan People have always had a fierce dislike of outside forces, leading them down a path of Isolationism. Largely self sufficient, this has lead to a lack of international trade, and thus the Toeranan Economy has been held back in the sectors in which they lack sizable resource deposits of their own.
Naval Tradition
The Toeranan people have been building ships for centuries and have built up a strong shipbuilding industry that supports a sizable naval apparatus. However, due to the heavy investment in the Navy, the military lacks flexible ground forces, favouring entrenched fortifications geared towards defence.

Vast Intelligence Apparatus
Thanks to centuries of isolationism, the Kingdom has very few formal or informal ties. However, despite this isolationism and large refusal to interact in the global community, successive Kings and their Prime Ministers have made sure that their Kingdom is never caught unaware. This has come in the form of a very talented and well funded network of Intelligence Agencies, with operatives at all levels of government of varies nation states. Rumour has it nothing goes on in certain cities without the Intelligence Service being aware. Surprisingly, however, this sort of surveillance virtually does not exist within the Kingdom itself, with strong privacy laws and a whistle-blower culture crippling past attempts to invade the privacy of Toeranans themselves.

The Royal Toeranan Navy is responsible for the vast majority of naval actions conducted by the Maritime Kingdom of Toerana, operating the bulk of its naval capacity, a small portion of its naval wing, and an small number of personal capable in amphibious operations. Due to its historical importance, the Navy gets the majority of the military's overrule funding, and is commanded by the military's sole 5 Star Officer, a Grand Admiral. The Navy is Headquartered in Maritime House, which is located on the Island of Toerana.

Its Naval Capacity is split between 5 Fleets, and contains a Reserve fleet where decommissioned ships are given the bare minimum maintenance to keep them sea worthy in the event of war. The Reserve Fleet has only ever been activated once in the Navy's nearly 1000 year history. Despite originally being split into fleets for pure administrative purposes, over the centuries each fleet has slowly begun to specialise and serve a specific role within the Toeranan Navy.

The First Fleet
The First Fleet is the lead fleet of the Navy, and is on a permanent state of high alert. While its composition is occasionally mixed up as new ships are sent off the line, it contains the most modern and robust of what the Toeranan Fleet has to offer. Due to its status as the only active fleet with aircraft carriers attached, it is viewed as the sole fleet capable of conducting offensive operations.

While often viewed as antiquated, and overly exposed to airpower, Battleships make up the backbone of the second fleet's firepower. Unmatched in raw firepower, the battleship has continued to be developed and iterated on as a power means to defend the Toeranan Coast, without the fear of devastating air attacks due to the cover provided by land based aircraft, and a maze of screening ships.
