The Imperium of Tinfect

The Imperium of Tinfect, is a technologically advanced superpower within the Arvarsel Cluster; Its borders are closed to all foreign transit and trade via the Subspace Barrier, which facilitates an impermeable border through the redirection of travelling vessels to one of several Military Checkpoints, or, Shield Systems. The Imperial territories are divided into two regions: the Interior Territories, which lie within the Subspace Barrier, and the Exterior Territories, which are a marked and policed exclusion zone surrounding the subspace barrier. The Exterior Territories are utilized for resource extraction purposes, as well as the identification of worlds suitable to terraforming efforts, such that they may be integrated into the Interior Territories when necessary.

The Imperium maintains its borders through the use of military force; incoming craft will be removed by force. Violation of the Imperial border for any reason, at any time, will be considered an act of war.

Government

The Imperium of Tinfect is an autocratic nation, governed from the office of the Raesilir, and the Oversight Council beneath it. The Oversight Council consists of three individuals, each representing one of the core branches of the Imperial Government; Civil Oversight, Military Oversight, and Diplomatic Oversight. Overseers are appointed by the Raesilir, which is in turn, appointed by the Oversight Council. Imperial Intelligence is authorized to appoint Oversight personnel in the event of the death of any Overseer prior to the appointment of a Raesilir.

Civil Oversight is tasked with the development and enforcement of Imperial Law, and the maintenance of the Civil Order.

Military Oversight is tasked with the maintenance of Imperial Security and the Imperial Military.

Diplomatic Oversight is tasked with the management of relations and contact with foreign governments, and the development of laws relating to foreign personnel.

Imperial Intelligence is a formally subordinate, but functionally independent branch of the Imperial Government, with its accountability to Civil, Military, and Diplomatic Oversight distributed where appropriate.

Civil Oversight

Civil Oversight's role in the Imperial Government is great and varied, ranging from simple civil legislation, to the direct operation of almost all sectors of the Imperial economy. Civil Oversight additionally is responsible for the planning and development of the Imperial Colonies and New Harron, ensuring the efficient operation and security of all aspects of civilian life through standardized development patterns and secure, defensible design planning.

Civil Oversight also serves as the primary authority for Internal Security, serving as tactical and logistical command for day-to-day operations of the organization. Unlike forces assigned to the Military, Internal Security forces do not operate under the Legionary or Naval organizational standards, though Legionary and Naval personnel may be reassigned to Internal Security when necessary. Internal Security forces are instead commanded by Directors of Internal Security, specially appointed Military Personnel with executive authority regarding Internal Security activities, such as patrol routes and deployment numbers, within assigned districts.

Military Oversight

Military Oversight functions as the final authority regarding military doctrine, organization, and logistics. The Imperial Military is a highly efficient and well organized force, consisting of the Interstellar Armed Forces, Imperial Armored Corps, Imperial Aerospace Corps, and the Imperial Navy. Foreigners are to note that Military Oversight does not operate oceangoing vessels; naval vessels are spacecraft.

Diplomatic Oversight

Diplomatic Oversight serves the simple role of the management of Imperial diplomatic relations with foreign governments and Imperial law relating to foreign citizens. Foreign Governments interacting peacefully with the Imperium, do so through Diplomatic Oversight and its personnel. While Diplomatic Oversight is an Oversight Division, it is highly accountable to both Civil and Military Oversight, each of which may enforce limits on the actions of Diplomatic Oversight where appropriate.

Imperial Intelligence

Imperial Intelligence serves primarily to manage the Imperial Archive, the central archive of all information known to the Imperium, as well as the maintenance of Imperial Information Security. Its secondary role consists of managing Imperial research initiatives under the supervision of the Oversight Divisions as appropriate. Additionally, Imperial Intelligence serves the counterespionage role, defending the Imperium from intrusion by the agents of foreign powers.

No further information regarding Imperial Intelligence is available to foreign personnel.

History

The origins of the Imperium can be found in the period known as The Collapse, between Standard Year 338 and Standard Year 357. The collapse began with escalated political tensions Talkonite regions, resulting in the outbreak of war; the situation rapidly degenerated, resulting in the activation of several Second-Strike systems within the involved states. These systems released numerous conventional missiles, chemical and biological agents, and a small number of mild nuclear devices, upon nearby states, including those that had, until then, remained outside of the scope of the conflict. These states, in many cases now lacking central government or direction, struck out with attacks and second-strike systems of their own. This situation repeated throughout much of the world, increasing in chaos and scope as additional states were targeted.

The UTCS, the then-extant prior government of Tinfect, attempted to capitalize on the military situation and its own relative safety from the events, deploying military personnel and stabilizing forces to allied states. The foreign states considered the UTCS's action as invasion and occupation, and constructed a substantial confederate force to initiate a counter-attack against the UTCS. The largely Talkonite force engaged the eastern states of the UTCS, successfully crippling military production and staging a further assault against the central territories of the UTCS, including the Capital city, then known as Kol. The UTCS rapidly collapsed following the destruction of the central government, and over the course of two years, the rapidly worsening conditions of the Talken continent, the logistical failure of attempts at evacuation and resettlement, and the growing resistance UTCS Remnant and Independent Nationalist forces, lead to the Confederate occupation attempting to utilize the WMD stockpiles of the UTCS to secure its political dominance.

The improperly-maintained UTCS missiles often fell short of their targets, due to Remnant sabotage or improper procedure due to poorly translated documentation, resulting in vast stretches of farmland, and significant population centers within Tinfect and other regions to be directly affected, rather than remaining military and government centers. The loss of life as a result of the continued deployment of chemical and biological agents throughout the world resulted in a 40% loss of global population by this period. Subsequent famines and warfare would reduce global population by a further 15% of pre-collapse population.

In Standard Year 442, a combined effort by UTCS Remnants and the Pre-Imperial Iron Guard and Scorched Earth militia organizations was successful in recapturing Kol from the remaining occupation forces, resulting in the final collapse of the Talkonite occupation. Over the next 15 Standard Years, Pre-Imperial forces, and as of Standard Year 348, the Imperium of Tinfect, would establish first regional, and ultimately global dominance, utilizing remaining stockpiles of UTCS and foreign weapons to eliminate hostile targets and establish control over inhabited territories. On 143 of Standard Year 358, the Imperium declared the end of the Collapse, and the foundation of a new world on Harron, formally establishing New Harron as the capital of the Imperium.

With the Imperial victory in uniting New Harron, and in the face of mounting famines and shortages, it turned its focus to the nearby, almost-habitable world of Hathien, which was revealed in early expeditions to have an abundance of natural resources and agriculturally valuable land. Conditions prior to and during the collapse prevented further investigation and exploitation of the available resources of Hathien, but the Imperium was successful in organizing expeditionary and colonial forces on the planet in Standard Year 365. Despite attempts at rebellion and difficulties in sustaining colonization, by Standard Year 372, Hathien was providing regular exports of agricultural resources to support populations on New Harron during reconstruction efforts.

The colony on Hathien, in standard year 392, while attempting to discern the cause of irregular mineral deposits in the eastern continent, discovered an unknown spherical object with a diameter of 1.0173 kilometers, buried partially beneath the planet's surface. They were unable to determine the structure of the object, nor its composition or purpose. It resisted all attempts at sampling, had unique spectral identification, and was devoid of any obvious breaks in its surface. Two years after the discover of the object, the establishment of an on-site fission reactor to support colonial growth in the region resulted in the activation of the sphere, briefly displacing the colony within a spatial anomaly. The colony was replaced 14 minutes after the event, lacking the object. Investigation of the incident by Imperial Intelligence revealed that approximately 67 standard days had passed within the anomaly, during which time, the colony personnel had greatly improved access to the interior of the object. Among technologies recovered from within the object prior to its disappearance were those which would be developed into Imperial terraforming mechanisms, which in Standard Year 409, would be deployed on New Harron to reverse the damages caused by the collapse.

In Standard Year 447, the Imperium succeed in its first experiments with faster-than-light travel, utilizing developments made from technologies recovered from the Hathien object. In Standard Year 452, the Imperium established its first extrasolar colony, the Illvaen, on the planet Balder. Further expeditions would result in first-contact with the Aeravahn in Standard Year 473, during an attempted colonization of the modern Imperial colony of SAR-38. Initial contact was established the Aeravahn species known in modernity as the Serathi; the situation rapidly deteriorated due to the conflicting colonial efforts, and the Imperial colonization force was destroyed by the Aeravahn. Shortly thereafter, Aeravahn forces arrived at Balder, and staged the first formal engagement of the Aeravahn War; Imperial orbital defenses were quickly defeated by the Aeravahn, but the hostile craft retreated following orders from Velrahn forces that had become aware of the incident. The Aeravahn War continued until Standard Year 685, when the Imperium formed a brief ceasefire with Aeravahn forces.

In Standard Year 692, Imperial Intelligence successfully developed and tested Subspace Technologies, and the development was immediately applied to all hyperpulse and superluminal technologies, allowing the Imperium to effectively instantly communicate and move throughout space. The Imperium would utilize these technologies to enact the process of Unification, wherein the Imperial colonies were subordinated to the direct authority of the Imperium, rather than permitted local governments. Secessionist and rebellion efforts continued unsuccessfully until Standard Year 694.

The Imperium's restriction of Subspace, and many other technologies, from the Aeravahn throughout the period strained relations greatly, and continued anti-Aeravahn sentiment within the Imperium gave cause to many to doubt the success of the agreement. This tension eventually culminated in the assassination of Lis-Raesilir Meldat Irevir by Aeravahn forces during a public appearance, in Standard Year 695. This event, along with the simultaneous small-scale Aeravahn attacks on Imperial border colonies, resulted in the immediate Imperial counterattack, facilitated by the recently-developed Kathil-Pattern Planetcracker.

The Imperial counterattack deployed the Planetcracker to all Aeravahn colonies in-turn, destroying the colonies, and allowing the Imperial Fourth Fleet to eliminate remnant forces. The Aeravahn homeworlds were instead subject to invasion and capture, ultimately resulting in the virus-bombing of the Serathi homeworld Idrathin, and the genocide of the Velrahn homeworld Kixastit. The Aeravahn Homeworlds, following the elimination of all sapient life, were retained as protected historical sites by the Imperium, following mandate by Civil Oversight. Following the Aeravahn genocide, the Imperium immediately progressed to the enactment of the purge of the Exterior; the Fourth Fleet was redeployed to the territories of the lesser border civilizations and began immediate removal of foreign populations. The purge of the Exterior Territories would continue until Standard Year 709, with the establishment of the Subspace Barrier over the Interior Territories.

In Standard Year 778, large sections of the Imperial Military, along with minor elements of Imperial Intelligence, engaged in full-scale rebellion against the Imperium, seizing and blockading the world of Hathien. The remaining forces of the Imperial Military engaged the rebellion, exploiting their lack of capital ships to eliminate the vast majority of their forces. They were, however, unable to stop a mutiny aboard the Imperial Planetcracker Desolate Star, which entered the Harron system, and, due to the positioning of itself and the Imperial fleet leaving it unable to target New Harron, destroyed the Hathien colony, prior to its own destruction by Imperial forces.

Investigation by Imperial Intelligence following the incident linked the rebellion to the Military Overseer at the time, who was executed, and replaced by the former Overseer. The death of the Ris-Raesilir shortly afterward lead to his replacement with Mis-Raesilir Isir Seles, who quickly replaced the Civil and Diplomatic Overseers with Avesaer Saar, and Elesvanir Marsev respectively.

Culture

Culture within the Imperium is strongly rooted in Marrovyne and Talkonite traditions, the former being heavily dominant. Identified Secondary influences include the Arentic, and Southeastern Davrol culture groups.

The Imperium formally recognizes the existence of an Imperial culture originating from the history of the Imperium, and maintains this culture through educational and social programs.

Language
Note, any and all usage of Marrov within this document is written utilizing English literation, rather than Marrov literation, for purposes of foreign accessibility.
The national language of the Imperium, is Marrov, as formalized by the UTCS prior to the collapse. Its current state is composited from several dialects of Marrov native to various regions in Tinfect, producing a unified, coherent language, able to be taught universally in schools.

Etymology

The name of the Imperium of Tinfect originates in the continent of Tinfect. The origination of the term ‘Tinfect’ is presently unknown. The term does not have any clear etymology in Marrov dialects, and is believed to have originated in an extinct language that predated the spread of Marrov. The term ‘Harron’, now used to refer to the planet as a whole, was used prior to the adoption of ‘Tinfect’ into Marrov.

The modern usage of the Imperium relates to the Raesil Arvarnfect, which at the time, literally translated as 'Star-World Empire', or, more accurately, Sacred-Tinfect Imperium, due to the relation between the Stars and the early Tinfect religion. This empire, which existed during the 'iron-age' of the continent, controlled the majority of the continent from the western coast, to central wastelands; the eastern portions of the continent remaining independent. This Empire is also responsible for the initial discovery of the vast mineral resources in the Alvaraeviren (Mountains of the Stars) in the north, and the construction of the city of Kol. This empire was considered by many as a high point in the continent's history, and after the destruction of the UTCS during the Collapse, many prospective states sought to lay claim as its heir; the modern Imperium of Tinfect was successful.

In Marrov, the name of the modern Imperium of Tinfect is Raesilires Tinfect, (Raesil, continues to refer to Governments in general, while Silires supplants Arvarnae when referring to the Stars, though Arvarnae retains its religious connotations) and is literally translated as 'The Stars Governed by Tinfect;'.

Interior Territories

The Interior Territories are the primary holdings of the Imperium, in which all colonies can be found, and the vast majority of Imperial operations take place. The systems with are divided into the following classifications, relating the function and purpose of the system:

Core Worlds

The Core Worlds are usually the oldest, and always the most developed and populated colonies in the Imperium, with establishment ranging from the earliest days of the Imperium, to the extinction of the Aeravahn. The vast majority of these worlds are now dominated by 'Super-Cities' divided into districts by their original designation that had been utilized as individual cities, prior to having been expanded into one-another over the course of the Imperial development plan. Each district retains a degree of responsibility for its own management, as a section of the greater whole of the city, and the Imperial Government.

Outer Colonies

The Outer Colonies are relatively recently colonized, or otherwise underdeveloped worlds within the Imperium. These worlds feature low to nonexistent populations, and generally lack the fully-developed supercities of the Core Worlds. As such, the distinction between later Districts is quite noticeable, often with little more than a primary transit system connecting them. These colonies are often in a state of continuous construction, and much of the initial population is engaged in such. In particularly well-developed examples, much of the planned construction may be complete, but lie empty for decades as the population has not expanded to where the city may be yet inhabited significantly.

Industrial Systems

Industrial Systems are exactly such, solar systems unsuitable for much else, that have been designated entirely for industrial and agricultural usage. The natural orbital bodies of these systems are unusable for Imperial colonization, or otherwise rejected for such, and often utilize permanent terraforming systems to ensure conditions in which mass-agriculture can be undertaken.

Orbital infrastructure is also quite extensive, if lacking in the defensive installations common to true Colonies. All industrial production in the Imperium takes place in orbital facilities within these systems, and all are host to large orbital systems of carefully managed resource storage.

Shield Systems

Shield Systems are permanently militarized areas, host to Subspace Projectors, and are responsible for the maintenance of the Subspace Barrier, and the significant orbital infrastructure dedicated to the protection thereof, as well as the interdiction and destruction of foreign vessels attempting to access the Interior Territories. Each System also maintains a small garrison of Second Fleet vessels.

Exterior Territories

The Exterior Territories are those holdings of the Imperium beyond the Subspace Barrier. They are universally uninhabited, however, they are frequented by Civil Oversight, the Third Fleet, and particularly adventurous Imperial Citizens. The systems are divided into the following classifications:

Secure Systems

This designation is utilized for all systems of the Exterior Territories for which one of the following designations is not in use. They usually of little note to the Imperium, with neither historical significance, or substantial resources.

Ruin Systems

These systems were formerly host to foreign civilizations prior to the purge of the Exterior Territories. They may be of high-value to the Imperium and, as such, are regularly patrolled by the Third Fleet. This designation is not mutually exclusive with the Harvest designation.

Harvest Systems

These systems have been noted to have substantial content of resources useful to the Imperium, and are designated for harvesting by the Resource Acquisition Division. Due to the high value of these systems, they maintain small Third Fleet deployments at all times.

Monitored Systems

These systems are, for whatever reason, considered important by the Imperium, and are host to small numbers of basic defensive installations and sensory equipment. Third Fleet Vessels do not generally patrol them, but may arrive if foreign vessels are present within them.
