Zirkovian Host's Armed Forces (WIP)
Overview | 🔊
- Motto of the ZHAF
The Zirkovian Host's Armed Forces consists of the dedicated astral and ground warfare branches of the Zirkovian Fleet, as well as the Oprichnina or Military Police, and its civilian auxiliaries. It answers directly to the Central Military Rada, the Host's main governing body, and is commanded by an Elected Hetman chosen every twenty years from the ranks of the starshyna, or field officers.
The ZHAF owes its origins to the White League, a loose alliance of Zirkovian nationalists formed from the ashes of the Belovian Host during the early years of the Ruin. It later incorporated sympathetic elements of the various Zirkovian Fleets, defectors from the Sarmatian Navy, and anti-Sarmatian outlaws. It was officially established after the Fall of Sarmatia in 6005 and has since played a central role in the evolution of the Zirkovian Hetmanate. It went on to play a critical role in the pacification of Chernov, and has since seen action in the Host's expansionist crusade.
Ground Forces
The typical Zirkovian soldier is equipped with a durasteel cuirass as well as leg and arm armour to provide some basic protection against projectile and energy-based weapons. Facemasks also protect against chemical weapons and provide soldiers with a HUD in combat. The colour of a Zirkovian soldier's uniform varies depending on the fleet to which they belong; for example, Belovians typically wear red and Chernovians black. Officers often adorn themselves in more elaborate colours and sport intricate brass and silver metalwork. The standard issue weapons of the Zirkovian Army are the Checkov Pattern Gauss Rifle - a coilgun which, while simple, is famed for its durability and reliability - and the Chekhov Mk.9 Hand Canon. Officers also carry shashkas, traditional guardless sabres for close-quarters combat.
The Zirkovian Army also contains dedicated armoured regiments. The Tachanka Mk.5 main battle tank is the most common feature among these units, and is relatively effective against most light armour, although its true advantage comes from its speed, as well as its ease of use and low production costs. More costly tanks, such as the Katyusha MK. 7, are rare features on Zirkovian battlefields but pack a more powerful punch. Combat Walkers also feature as a part of the Zirkovian Army, being generally more powerful than main battle tanks. They are, however, far more expensive.

Naval Forces
Most vessels are equipped with Lascannons, which can cause serious damage to most shield types, despite being less effective against heavy armour. To counterbalance this, ships also carry Type 81 "Viper" Ship-to-Ship missiles and Type 24 "Hornet" Plasma Torpedoes. Vipers, however, are susceptible to most countermeasures and Hornets lack guidance systems, and as such both are best used in high quantities to ensure results. They also fare poorly against energy shields and typically rely on Lascannons to soften the target up first.
