Anhu Military Culture and Doctrine

At first it was thought that the Air Domain's heavily collectivistic social and military culture, authoritarian governance and protocol-based work procedures in many corners of life had molded a doctrine in which many decisions go from top-to-bottom. The general stereotype of Soviet air-crews of being organic autopilots whose every moves are guided by ground control can be increased ten-fold for the low-level Anhu commanders of the Air Domain, whom are troubled in their struggling capacity or ability to operate based on initiative. And while all of that is generally true, like most stereotypes, it is only a half-truth.

Air Fleet recognizes that events in war, by its destructive and chaotic nature are not predictable with 100% accuracy, no matter how much they may view warfare under the viewpoint of "science", or cultural scientism. As a result, they have developed two seemingly contradictory approaches to the problem, the first element is rigid centralization and the latter is individual command through awareness. The quantification of all aspects of flying and the Defense Ministry's view of engaging in the art of war (divided into multiple lower-to-higher-level/tactical-to-strategic front and army levels of operations) have led to Air Fleet's most likely playbook consists of a synthesis that mixed the traditional fighter pilot techniques and training emphasis of initiative, ingenuity and sheer instincts with "scientific modeling" to maximize the probability of success in an unknown situation.

In the first case, it must be stressed that the Anhu way of war is most likely upheld through a Command and Control network of static outposts around the inner Solar System and with mobile command vehicles around the aforementioned area. This network not only serves to keep crews and their superiors interconnected, it also serves the rigid socio-cultural and ideological needs of the Air Domain as it delivers the utmost possible direct control from the Ruling Committee's Minister of Defense and the Defense Council, regarded as the highest-ranking military authorities in the Air Domain.

In the latter case, it can be said that the Anhu, like most pilots, recognize that confrontations are dynamic, so flexibility and initiative are necessary to win. Creativity and initiative are put to the test in computer-based "virtual reality" simulations and live-action exercises that pit commanders and crews against each-other. This practice, according to a liaison, is known as "experience accumulation": though it's debated if simulations can quantify the individual qualities of personnel put to the test, it is hoped that situations can better be predicted(and thus, controlled) through them.

The Anhu, like any combatant force, take comfort in situational awareness that provides tactical advantages. Air Fleet would make heavy use of automated or remotely-controlled unmanned probes to scan potential battlefields and relay their data to a Mission Control base and individual combat units. The information is required to "seek out the most efficient methods for conducting combat operations." and such an outlook reflects the Anhu fixation with finding the "scientifically optimal solution" to each situation. As they relay information to each-other in real time in the vastness of space, some speculate that the Anhu open up tunnels around space and time to transmit messages or somehow use particles that travel faster-than-light however this is all speculative.

The current Air Fleet wartime command network is most likely streamlined to allow centralized control by the Ministry of Defense; however, it's also "regionally" decentralized in its administration of independent assets right down to the lowest level. It was perhaps a lesson learned after the Roswell Incident as Anhu Ground Control on the Moon knew of the saucer that crashed but failed to take immediate action as local commanders feared repercussions should they have broken protocol by landing on Earth and instead waited on the upper echelons to make a decision or deploy a Search-and-Rescue mission.

At the moment it is impossible to determine the exact size of the military units that the Air Domain's armed forces, Air Fleet, possesses. Nonetheless, despite the individual shortcomings of it's staff, their impressive array of technology and the morale of it's personnel make the Anhu a very threatening opponent should war break out.

Generalities of Anhu Technology
Though the Anhu have supposedly had no need for destructive weaponry in over 1,500 years, modifications to civilian tools and vehicles have proven to be adequate to potentially face off against the defense forces of the world's nations. The pivotal point of Anhu technology is gravity manipulation: it's the means used by their latest spacecraft which grants flying saucers the ability to bend space and time, it's what makes their habitats in outer space livable and it has a myriad of practical applications. Air Fleet consequently makes use of many technologies originally intended for civil engineering, mostly mining tools, industrial lasers and gravity-manipulating technology originally intended to carry heavy cargo loads, capture asteroids or to protect against space debris.

Some analysts speculate that the weapons shown below are all for show and that the Anhu could pragmatically use electromagnetic accelerator-devices around the Asteroid Belt near their mining facilities to hurdle down projectiles of varying sizes at targets on Earth. Needless to say, the existence of military vehicles and devices has prompted this preliminary memo's creation. The vehicles mentioned below have no known designation and are listed by the year in which they were purportedly made or when they were first witnessed.

Vehicles

The Model 1947/52 Saucer

Fig.1: A Sports Model photographed hovering near a road.

*Height: 4.9 meters (16 feet)
*Diameter: 15.8 meters (52 feet)

The Model 47/52, also nicknamed as the "Sports Model", is the workhorse of Air Fleet in the aftermath of Roswell, having phased out the older electro-magnetic powered device saucers. It's a highly versatile craft that not only serves as the mainstay space and atmospheric fighter of the Saucer People, it is also capable of being a reconnaissance platform, it can preform hovering air-to-ground attack roles and it can even operate below the sea. All this is possible through an an engine that collides matter with an exotic form of matter to generate gravity or purportedly expand and contract the fabric of space-time around itself while cancelling the effects of inertia within to protect it's occupants from getting smeared on the craft's walls during extremely high accelerations. This is possible through three gravity amplifiers outputs positioned from 180° joints, located on the belly of the craft. In theory, the Sports Model is speculated to be possible of enveloping itself in a curve or bubble to travel at faster-than-light speeds without breaking localised in Outer Space but this has neither been confirmed nor denied.

Unlike the "out-dated" spaceship of Roswell, that required a flight engineer and a co-pilot, the Sports Model is considerably more automated despite it's large size. (For more information on the functionality of obsolete designs in Domain machinery, consult Mr. Grimes' analysis on the matter)Futurologists speculate that it is the pinnacle of Anhu engineering and that the vehicle is 60 to 80 generations away from our most advanced fighter airplane.

The dark-colored ring and prisms on the top floor of the 47/52 are not portholes, but some kind of electronic sensors array that feeds information to the rest of the ship. (See the Linkcut-out model). Subtle arches around the ship become visible within the ship,
and the vision is augmented by an advanced virtual data array. Engineers have called it a "Heads Up Display". The ship is armed around it's exterior shell with four top and four bottom facing lasers capable of covering 1.571 radians each; it appears that the modality of the weapons can alternate in their nature. Or perhaps, different saucer variants use different weapons systems. Below are the known weapons in use:

Weapons/Tools of the Model 47/52
- Slowing Time: saucers have the ability to project gravity fields that drastically slow down time in a specific area, usually 50 to 100 cubic or square meters. Uniform fields has been speculated to be capable of capturing people and objects by "freezing" them. Incidentally, the technology was originally miniature in scale and developed for "food boxes" within ships to prevent spoilage and also to put crews in stasis during "slow journies" between stars to prevent biological aging.

- Gravity Burst: A "wave" of Gravity fields that surround a ship and aren't uniform can be concentrated around a saucer to liquidate physical objects for defensive purposes and offensive purposes. Eyewitness reports state that anti-air shells and missiles aimed at saucers get "crumpled up like beer cans". A demonstration of it's offensive capabilities on a group of unfortunate test animals (cattle) turned the creatures into a paste of flesh and broken bones, left a crater-like pressure mark over the ground in a circumference of 80 square meters and deformed the armor of several de-commissioned M4 Sherman Tanks.

- Gravity Laser: Focused gravity field arc, it's purpose is probably meant to deflect high-velocity micro-projectiles or space debris when saucers themselves at travelling at what can only be described as "very high speeds" in Outer Space. Physicists speculate that given enough energy, this type of weapon can create a microscopic mathematical curiosity (an unstable "black hole") that'll collapse in on itself and result in an explosion measured in a few kilotons. This has not been verified, however.

- Heat Laser: A beam of directed energy, photonic in nature, that pierces and burns targets. Demonstrations show that it can "cut" through thick RHA (Rolled Homogenous Armor) and leaves holes and brittle burn marks similar to those left by a jet of hot gas. It's effects on lighter sheets of metal are described as looking akin to "gashes a hot knife makes through butter", as can be ascertained through the remains of a Titan ICBM test-launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base. This weapon was probably derived from an industrial laser drill.

- Meson(?) Laser: An arc of sub-atomic particles meant to bypass the defenses of heavily-armored targets, speculated to be hypothetical enemy capital-ships in space or Earth's anti-nuclear bunkers. The particles decay into a deadly, if not short-lived, wave of gamma rays or fast neutrons inside the target, "cooking off" the occupants. Demonstrations with sheep and pigs indicate that targets are physically incapacitated within minutes after exposure and die of organ failure within hours. The Anhu state that this weapon can also fry the "integrated circuitry" of electronics and "robots".

Cloaking Device: The "memory-metal" that makes the saucer is capable of imitating it's surroundings and rendering it temporarily "invisible", either because it is counts layers of materials that absorb (doesn't deflect) different kinds of radiation on the microwave spectrum that make objects visible or have heat signatures or because the 47/52 has a mechanism that scatters light waves. Considering how much the Saucer People depend on gravity manipulation, the latter case is not unlikely.

The Model 1955 Powered Armor Suit

Fig.2: Skech of an Anhu "mech".
OOC: From the Ma.K ZBV3000 illustrated series.

*Crew: 1; Pilot
*Height: 2.2 meters (7 feet 2 inches)

A powered suit described as a "Panzer on legs", quite possibly the first Air Domain-devised ground based weapons platform, speculated to have been made to go up against AFVs, low-flying aircraft and possibly to provide very high volumes of fire support to ground forces. Military analysts have some reason to believe that it potentially has the capacity to be used by occupation forces in rural and urban settings. A diminutive 1.5 meter-tall Anhu pilot sits in the torso of the humanoid mechanical skin, aided by an array of the machine's electronic optical calibration system (external cameras) that can see not only what is on the outside regularly but also has the option to activate infra-red and nocturnal visions in settings where regular visibility is poor.

Weapons/Tools:

- High Velocity Gun: A versatile four-barrel Gatling-style autocannon that fires high-density flechette-like bullets.
- Smoke Projector: Concealment device like those found in tanks/IFVs. The smoke is made up of a cloud of "smart" nano-scale robots however that can be directed to follow the power-suit or make deceptive movements.

Other Devices:

Particle-Disruption Devices

Fig.3: Anhu particle-disrupting laser in action.
OOC: Image from Inio Asano's Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction.

The "Particle De-Constructor" is an anti-tank/material weapon whose basic principles play off at small levels despite it's noticably big impact. It is best described as a particle-disruption weapon that interferes with the strong or weak nuclear forces by blocking the exchange of sub-atomic particles within a targeted object or area. It is said that targets that get caught within a symmetrical spherical "blast" radius, or a dissolving radius, as the weapon often leaves distinctive holes similar to scoops of ice-cream or Swiss cheese holes no matter the thickness or material. It can also gruesomely delimb and neatly sever living beings caught in-between the aforementioned radius. The device is known for provoking woodpecker-like cracking noises on Earth when air fills the empty blast bubble. Observers note that pale green flashes of light of lightning-like duration are seen where it's targets disintegrate.

There is still much to be understood about this weapon and the Anhu themselves are very jealous about keeping it's operating principles a secret even if we can't hope to reproduce one with current understanding of physics or our technological shortcomings. However it has been revealed that this vehicle-mounted "gun" was originally derived from a type of drilling machine intended to bore potentially habitable tunnels and create mine shafts within rocky surfaces.
