in the Republic of Crossoveria

Incumbent
Waldemar Rochester

Since 9 January 2021

Office of the Supreme Leader

Style: Dear Leader, Great Leader or
Guide of the Revolution

Status: Head of State

Reports to: Crossoverian Law House

Residence: House of Supremacy

Seat: Crossoveripolis

Appointer: Crossoverian Law House

Term length: Life tenure

Constituting Instrument: Crossoverian Constitution

Precursor: King

Formation: 21 July 1954

First holder: Kais Al Abidine Baldemore

The Supreme Leader of Crossoveria, officially the Supreme Leadership Authority, is the Head of State and highest political, military, and religious authority in Crossoveria. The armed forces, judiciary, state television, and other key government organizations such as the Crossoverian Law House are subject to the Supreme Leader. The Supreme Leader is responsible for issuing decrees and making final decisions on the economy, education, foreign policy, and national planning, among others.

The Supreme Leadership in Crossoveria is a lot like in Iran. However, the Supreme Leader does not have the authority to dismiss the President or the Vice President, but he can easily dismiss representatives, judiciaries, and military generals, and cannot be dismissed from his position. The Supreme Leader appoints Representatives in the Crossoverian Law House, Crossoveria's legislature. It is also impossible to remove a Supreme Leader in Crossoveria unless if the officeholder dies resigns, or forcefully removed from power.

The office has been established in 1954 under the leadership of Kais Al Abidine Baldemore, and since then, there have been four more Supreme Leaders four more Supreme Leaders; Farrokh Daikutt, Marie BonAztire, Zeeter Saldivar, and currently, Waldemar Rochester. The Supreme Leader ranks above the President of Crossoveria and personally appoints heads of the military, government, and judiciary. The Constitution requires that the Supreme Leader be either a Muslim or a Hefflist.

The Crossoverian Supreme Leadership is usually passed down to the President, and there are no elections for Supreme Leader. Instead, in the event of the death of a Supreme Leader, the Crossoverian Law House meets to finalize the successor, and will take a vote based on their legitimacy. Reports have suggested that incumbent Waldemar Rochester criticized Crossoverian Law House members, leading to their arrests and removal from the legislature. The Supreme Leader has been considered "inviolable", and Crossoverians are regularily punished for criticizing or insulting them.

Mandate and Status

The Supreme Leadership position is usually handed down to the President, but other key positions, like the Speaker or Chief Justice, are considered. When the incumbent dies or resigns, unless a coup occurs, the Crossoverian Law House will meet to discuss who will be the next Supreme Leader. Usually, there is a vote among the members, and they decide who gets to be successor.

No body of government has the capability of dismissing the Supreme Leader.

The Supreme Leader is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and the provisional head of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches.

He appoints, oversees, and has the capability of dismissing the following offices.

  • Inaugurates the President and Vice President

  • The Chief Justice

  • Members of the Secretarial or Ministerial House

  • Representatives to the United Nations

  • The General and Lieutenant of the Armed Forces, specifically of the Crossoverian Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard.

  • The Commander of the Crossoverian Guard Corps

  • The speaker of the Representative House

The Supreme Leader may receive a huge salary, and lives in a luxurious house in Crossoveriapolis.

Requirements

Unless in a coup, requirements for any succeeding Supreme Leader, which also apply to the President, include the following:

  • Must be a practicing Hefflist or Shia Muslim

  • Must be born in Crossoveria

  • Must be fluent in Crossoveriaanz

  • Must be at least 40 years old

  • Must have resided in Crossoveria for the past 20 years.

Constitutional Incorporation

First interpretation

After the overthrow of the Crossoverian monarch, Kais Al Abidine Baldemore established an autocratic nation without a national referendum. The Mandien Constitution was seen as invalid, and a new Constitution was put in place. This constitution was described as "a hybrid of theocracy and democracy". Baldemore applied his theory of Welayat il-Aman. In it,there would be a Supreme Leader who would govern a country, and he would have the final say in all laws depending on the impacts it has on the people. However, Baldemore's Supreme Leadership was very authoritarian, and his successors were more repressive than he was. The post of the Presidency had not yet been formed when Baldimore and his successor Farrokh Daikutt were leading Crossoveria.

In 1994, Marie BonAztire wrote a book that explained the elements she felt were needed in a government, and authoritarianism was one of the elements. BonAztire said in her famous 1994 interview that an authoritarian government "has more stability and more beneficial than a democratic one."

Crossoveria's former Constitution Article 1 states that Crossoveria's Supreme Leader will make the final decisions on government issues. Article 6 praises the Supreme Leader and any violation toward her would be punished severely. The Supreme Leader has also been responsible for creating the infamous Code of Citizenship which outlined what Crossoverian citizens can and can't do. This wasn’t required under the 1954 Crossoverian Constitution, but the ACE had the idea of creating it.

2021

When the new Supreme Leader Waldemar Rochester came into power in 2021, there have been few changes; the Supreme Leader would not be able to dismiss the President and the Vice President, and the Code of Citizenship was invalidated.

Responsibilities of the Supreme Leader

Duties and Powers given to the Supreme Leader by the Constitution, decrees and laws, are:

  • Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces

  • Delineatio and supervisor of the execution of general policies in Crossoveria.

  • Resolving conflicts between opposing political parties.

  • Issues decrees for national referendums.

  • Declaration of war, peace, and the mobilization of the Armed forces.

  • Can turn down policies passed by the President

  • Reinstates and dismisses Ministers.

  • Appointment, dismissal, and acceptance of resignation of members of the legislature, judiciary, head of television and communication in Crossoveria, and armed forces.

  • Pardons anyone convicted of a crime.

  • Confirms decisions to the Crossoverian Law House.

The Supreme Leader once said that he wants to keep his duties as Supreme Leader “as simple as possible.”
