The Monastic Order of Qrono & MWQ

The Monastic Order of Qrono
also known informally as the Time Monks, are aptly the official timekeepers of Teremara. It’s their sole purpose and devotion, with a few other side hobbies, to tend to what is assumed to be an Atomic Clock, deep inside the Monastery, with which all other time is set in Teremara.

Qrono Island, the home of their Order, is located somewhere in the Middle Waters between Madurin and Tavlyria. It’s the central zone, known as MWQ (Middle Waters Qrono) by which all other intervals of time zones are set.

Eastern Madurin is MWQ -1, and so forth until the Western Madurin zone, which mostly consists of Terre des Gaules, is MWQ -4. In the opposite direction, Western Tavlyria is MWQ +1, with Eastern Tavlyria being MWQ +3, with one zone in between.

The Island has been protected for centuries from intruders by what many believe to be an actual magic spell. With the proximity of the nearby pirates of Asucki or the marauding vikings of Northeastern Tavlyria, no plausible other explanation has been posited as to how they have kept their sovereignty. Those that survive a journey there and return, such as journalists, commandos, scientists, and spies describe getting horribly lost trying to find the Island and have no memory of ever setting foot on land.

Since the Time Monks have no military capability, this magical trickery has been the unofficial accepted belief, although regional scientists continue to try to refute this and unlock the other mysteries of Qrono with no success.

The date of the original establishment of the Order is unknown and possibly not measurable on a plane of time we are familiar with.
