The Military of Tekniania
The Military of Tekniania is subdivided into three major parts: The State Guards, the Allied Guard and the Council Guard. Each of these branches maintains its own army, navy, occasionally also space and air forces. The State Guards are under the direct control of each of the islands (or island groups, in the case of the Outer Islands) that they belong to. These are mostly small forces, most not larger than 150 men. Most of them, excluding the major islands, don't maintain air or space forces, instead delegating the protection of their airspace to the Allied Air and Space Guard. These State Guards exist due to Tekniania being a massive, mostly ocean nation, which couldn't possibly all be covered by a single, centralised navy. Therefore, the State Guards patrol the waters around their islands, keeping unwelcome guests out of them.
The Allied Guard is the biggest of all of these branches, as it is charged with the protection of the entire Allied States. It boasts an impressive 150 thousand men and women, with 2 million in the Reserves, ready to be called in whenever necessary. It splits itself into 5 Segments: The Land Guard, The Sea Guard, The Air Guard, The Space Guard and The Special Guard. Each of these has its own massive Headquarters in Kivoli, where the military bureaucrats reside, and a Central Island Base, an entire island turned into an enormous base. These Guards shall be expanded further on in other Factbook entries.
Finally, the Council Guard. These are some of the most elite soldiers (save for The Special Guard), which are tasked with keeping all General Council members safe and secure. Members of this Guard accompany Councillors everywhere, they are stationed outside their homes, around their homes, around the General Council building in Kivoli, etc.
Joining the Guards is completely voluntary, and always has been. Tekniania has never had conscription and, most likely, never will, since public opinion is heavily against it. This ensures that only people who know that they will be happy in the military and will love their work there actually join it.
