The Preeminent Democracy in East Asia

(With respect to the Republic of India).

The Nation of Taiqiong rose from a fairly bloody past. Often referred to as "South China," "Blue China," or "That Forsaken Island Chain that Refuses to Submit to the People's Republic of China's omnibenevolent rule," Taiqong was founded after the Republic of China successfully held onto the island of Hainan. It seemed to be an impossible victory: Communist gurellias had infiltrated the island's population and convinced its people to worship Mao Zedong as their leader. Hordes of red forces tried to overwhelm the island despite the rapid deployment of reinforcements from Taiwan.

It is argued that part of Taiqiong's success during and immediately after the invasion was the unfortunate, but perhaps portentous death of Chiang Kai Shek. His aircraft was shot down in the People's Republic of China's airspace, leading to his hapless death. An Emergency appointment of a new president was held, with many Representatives in the Legislative Yuan hastily appointed Zhang Xueliang, a war hero who had otherwise been placed under house arrest by Chiang, to power as they believed his leadership would be able to restore the nation.... And Chiang would be unable to protest.

Sure enough, upon his appointment as temporary president, Zhang Xueliang ordered the mass deployment of reinforcements from Taiwan to Hainan, believing that holding the island was of the most urgent strategic priority. This was helped by the entry of United States forces once the initial PRC invasion faltered against Taiqiongese defenses. Trouble was brewing in distant Korea, and the United States had no interest in allowing Communism to continue securing mass parts of Asia.

With the United States committing itself to supporting Taiqiongese independence, Taiqiong was compelled to assist the United States in the Vietnam War. One of the earliest wars in our modern history, the Vietnam War ended with a US victory... And earned Taiqiong the gratitude of the French, who continued to have some fledgling influence over the Republic of Vietnam. Although the costs of the war of Taiqiongnese Independence and subsequent Vietnam war proved exhausting for us, we had the support of several key global powers. Sadly, Soviet Union and PRC reprisals included fighting over places like Afghanistan and emboldening Communist insurrections in Burma and Cambodia, but we were in no position to provide aid. Even with a mutual defense pact with Vietnam, and significant support from France and the United States, Taiqiong remains in the precarious position of having one of its primary provinces near PRC shores. Hainan, known as Qiong since eternity, remains one of our key locations and is, perhaps, the main rationale for our claims as "the other China."

It has been over 60 years since Taiqiong secured its identity against the hordes of the People's Republic. Our northern brethren remain under the rule of a Totalitarian Dictatorship, but the efforts of our Legislative and Executive Yuans do what they can to uphold Sun Yatsen's ideals! The first Taiqiong election ensured that Zhang Xueliang became our first legitimate President, but he was quick to step down when the next election selected another to take his place. Despite our disdain for Communism, we understand why it appeals to so many. Thus, as we follow our national father, we ensure that the People's Livelihood will be well provided for, and that the allure of Communism will not seize us the way it's indoctrinated our kin. Taiqiong will stand secure, protecting the seas from the taint of Communism! While there are some that dream of us retaking the mainland, it seems the most important goal for us is to endure. They may outnumber us, they may attempt to outgun us, but as long as Taiqiong controls the seas, the most they can do is rattle their daos!
