The Democratic Republic of Steprianka is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Satras Oilgarkov with an iron fist, and renowned for its state-planned economy, irreverence towards religion, and stringent health and safety legislation. The compassionate, cynical population of 1.653 billion Stepriankans are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The large, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Law & Order, and Defense. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Brisniako. The average income tax rate is 84.0%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The all-consuming Stepriankan economy, worth 184 trillion hevras a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is quite specialized, is led by the Trout Farming industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Tourism, and Arms Manufacturing. Average income is an impressive 111,555 hevras, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

A faint smell of body odour can be detected at several miles distance from the National Science Park, Steprianka's free colleges struggle to maintain standards in the face of overwhelming demand, the government burgles the houses of holidaying citizens, and ice-filled coffins are ominously positioned in the corner of every hospital ward. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Steprianka's national animal is the arctic fox, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Steprianka is ranked 70,697th in the world and 560th in 10000 Islands for Largest Manufacturing Sector, scoring 7,831.96 on the Gooback-Jerbs Productivity Index.
