The Past In Pulsroth: The Lani'akan Era

The modern day Pulsrothi Republic has its origins in Lani'aka, a small absolute monarchy founded by our country's native Mahęalani people in 1294, in a region known today as the Eleanore Islands.

Lani'aka was initially founded as a 7000 strong group of several Mahęalani tribes, united under a single leader, Maira Warihana, who led the first humans to the islands and went on to become the new nation's first Rangâtira or Chief. Following the completion of the capital city of Meridian (Piringâ) in 1372, a rapidly growing empire soon took hold, leading to the spread of Mahęalani people to the mainland of Somersby and the development of the cities of Forsinard (Whakateręa) and New Hereford (Hanâ Hôu).

Despite this prosperity, Lani'aka was often governed harshly via extreme force, a symptom of what was at the time, an aggressive warrior culture and an inability to get along consistently. While the almost dictatorial ruling style of the Rangâtira was certainly effective at stopping the worst of any infighting, it came at a huge cost to civil liberty within Lani'aka. As such, the country was frequently embroiled in short periods of civil unrest, until the arrival of the region's first British settlers in 1772.
