The Confederated Communes of Proletaire is a gargantuan, cultured nation, remarkable for its museums and concert halls, smutty television, and ban on automobiles. The compassionate, democratic population of 14.84 billion Proletaireans are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, liberal, socially-minded, outspoken morass — juggles the competing demands of Education, Welfare, and Environment. The average income tax rate is 99.0%.

The enormous but underdeveloped Proletairean economy, worth a remarkable 1,119 trillion labour vouchers a year, is driven almost entirely by government activity. The industrial sector is solely comprised of the Book Publishing industry. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 75,430 labour vouchers, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The fire protection service is wholly government-funded, corporate executives continue to enjoy generous tax benefits while the public is taxed to the hilt, it's normal to start working life with crippling financial debt, and it's always rabbit season. Crime is totally unknown. Proletaire's national animal is the horse, which is also the nation's favorite main course.

Proletaire is ranked 155,567th in the world and 48th in The Graveyard for Most Efficient Economies, scoring 24.29 on the Krugman-Greenspan Business Outlook Index.
