Port Ember History in Detail (Part 1 & 2of 8): WIP

History in Detail (Part 1 of 8): First Inhabitants.

Archeological Evidence suggests that Ember Island was inhabitant by human life forms for the first time around 800ad.

This period is considered as the "Dark Ages" of Ember Island since almost no evidence or records exist which explains the lifestyle of these inhabitants.

ORIGINS.
The origins of the first inhabitants remains a topic of hot debate amongst scholars, since no evidence can prove without a doubt the origins.

The little evidence found suggests that the inhabitants farmed with lifestock- pigs and sheep. Objects which was normally only found at neighbouring islands during this period was found in burial sites, leading scholars to believe the inhabitants was raiders.

However most confusing fact was that the remnants of small boats found, dictates that deap sea travel was not possible with the technology available. Therefore the question of how did the first inhabitants reach the island and how did they manage to travel to other islands to raid, remains unawnsered.

The last evidence found of the first inhabitants dates back to around 1100ad. That means the first inhabitants dissapeared without a trace almost overnight.

Furthermore no evidence or records found of neighbouring lands have mentioned these inhabitants during this timeframe.

This period of Port Ember history remains a mystery for local scholars and is likely to remain a mystery for many more years.

Port Ember History in Detail (Part 2 of 8): Ember Islands Kingdom.
The next part of the history of Port Ember is better documented and backed with evidence compared to the occupation of the unkown first settlers (a period known as the Port Ember Dark Ages). There is however still many details unclear and question unawnserd as many evidence was destroyed in the constant war of this period.

The next inhabitants on Ember Island arrived about a 100 years after the original occupants have dissapeared.

It is known that the next settlers arived on Ember Island around 1200ad.

A Japanese slaver ship named the Satoshi was sailing from Japan towards the south when it was caught in a large storm, which threw it off course completely and eventualy sunk. The surviving crew and slaves eventualy washed up on the shores of Ember Island (Ember Island was still unnamed at this time). Many old tablets and crude forms of diaries was disvovered and all explained in detail how the slaves murdered the few surviving crew members. Scholars agree that about 200 slaves survived the shipwreck.

The exact nationality of the slaves are still debated but it is consented that they were definitely of various asian origins.

The former slaves and prisoners found that the island was an excellent hiding place from their old masters due to the dense rain forests, and a excellent place to carve out a new life due to the abundance of food (fruits, fish and animals) and fresh water. They created a village on the western shores of the island, which was named Satoshi, as a gesture of defiance and mockery as the ship on which they traveled when it sank was named Satoshi.

It was during this time that an extremely rare mineral was discovered- which was named Emerald. A stone which resembles a burning ember, but always cold to the touch, even if direct heat is applied to it. The new settlers then named the island Ember Island in honour of this stone.

Soon after the island saw an massive increase of settlers as thousands of escaped slaves and fugitives (majority from nearby asia) fled to the island in search of freedom.

This caused a population boom on the island, and violence. Due to the fact that no government existed and the nature of the new settlers, violence erupted in Satoshi. The village was completely lawless and murders, robberies and rape was a daily occurance. Scholars estimate that close to 50 000 people lived on the island by 1230, most ex slaves and fugitives.

It was around this time that one of the original settlers - Naruto Hishima declared himself king in an effort to curb the violence and lawlessness. He was coronated in 1228. His hand varved wooden throne exists still today and is in the Kingdom Museum. He raised a militia to enforce peace on the streets. He further forced his new subjects to establish new villages around the island in an effort to decentralise the population to reduce crime.

Records and evidence found suggests that about 72 small villages was established all around the kingdom.

The newly established villages was scattered far away from central authority and its settlers felt betrayed by being send away from Satoshi, and subsequently declared themselves independant soon after they were established.

In anger King Hishima send his militia to systematically slaughter and rape all the rebelious villages. This lead to the first Kingdom of Ember Island civil war over the period 1230 - 1233. Many villages formed alliances and was split between the "Royalists" - vilages loyal to the crown, and the "Independants", the rebels.

The king was killed during the war when he led a raid on a Independants village.

His 15 year old son, Iro Hishima ascended to the throne. King Iro was a cunning and ruthless man and managed to gain the loyalty of a few Independanta villages. He ordered the assisination of many Independants villages chiefs on the day of his corronation. He was known to show no mercy to villages that he defeated, and ordered all survivors of the battle to be raped (this includes the women, children and men) and then burned alive. The rebels were shocked in his ruthlessness and many quickly sworn loyalty to the king.

Thus King Iro managed to crush the rebellion soon after he ascended to the throne.

King Iro adopted an aggressive approach to the outside world, in order to unite his subjects. He believed when his subjects was busy fighting outsiders they will not have time to fight amongst themselves.

The Kingdom build impressive sea going vessels named Longboats and used them to raid far and wide. Records show that China, Japan, Vietnam, Indionida, Philipines and Korea was frequently raided and its merchant ships pirated. The Kingdom was known as a very violent and savage raider nation.

The following centuries involved many more civil wars and lawfullness on the island and many documents were destroyed in the wars, making it difficult to determine the exact events of the wars. It is clear however that a great number of kings were killed and coronated, sometimes even survinig only for a week!

The kingdom continued on this path of civil wars and for a while, uniting to raid up until 1500.
