The Goldonian Republic of Piste-Land, commonly called Piste-Land, is a unitary presidential constitutional republic in Equinox. It is bordered on the north and east by The Nation of the People of the Nation, on the south by Great angiris, and on the west by Terrabuena and Great angiris. Piste-Land covers LAND AREA square kilometers and has an estimated population of 184 million. Piste-Land comprises of 30 provinces and two territories.

Etymology

The name Piste-Land comes from the Old Pistesian words Pēstes and Lande, which mean "People" and "Homeland" respectively. The two words combined form the word Pēstes lande, which means "People's Land." The main island's name, Goldonia, comes from another Old Pistesian word, Gol donē, which means "Great Island." Pistonet's name comes from the Old Pistesian word Pēstes onet meaning "People's City."

The standard way to refer to a citizen of Piste-Land is as a "Pistesian."

History

Between 14 and 900 AD, portals connecting Earth to Equinox appeared in Europe and the Middle East, causing tens of thousands of people to immigrate to the area which is now Goldonia. Due to the extremely low winter temperatures, the Middle Eastern immigrants, who were not very used to these, moved to the southern parts of the island to experience slightly higher temperatures, giving them an advantage in agriculture. Some of them soon moved to a small island south of Goldonia and founded the Sultanate of Mesalumia in 1147 AD. Meanwhile, the rest of the tribes fought each other for domination of Goldonia. In 1244, Mesalumia joined the battle, conquering the southern parts of Goldonia in the process. The Germanic majority founded a new kingdom called the Goldonian Kingdom of the People's Germania with King Alastair I in charge.

In 1554, the Great Goldonian War broke out between the People's Germania and Mesalumia. The latter emerged victorious in 1571, annexing the remaining tribal lands and some parts of the former.
Goldonia was peaceful and tranquil until 1716, when portals appeared in Great Britain and Spain, bringing colonists to it. The colonists fought Mesalumia and the People's Germania. The former lost some territories to Spain, and the latter collapsed in 1732. Great Britain and Spain took advantage of this and conquered the areas Germania used to occupy in 1806. Two years later, Joseph Bonaparte took over Spain, causing the citizens of Spanish Goldonia to revolt. Britain, now the United Kingdom, crushed the rebels and took two thirds of Spanish Goldonia, and France took the remaining third. In 1816, the UK annexed all of French Goldonia.

38 years later, instability in British Goldonia caused the Pistesians to revolt against the British, and they succeeded in getting them to recognize Piste-Land as an independent nation in 1856. The next year, LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) candidate Morris Leyton was elected president of Piste-Land. In 1862, another Liberal party candidate named Mathias Fischer was elected president. He declared Pistesian and English the national languages in 1864. In 1887, Piste-Land annexed a small British island named Richardson Island and started annexing Mesalumian land.

Growing threats from militaristic nations in the 1930s made President Victor Córdoba increase defense spending. At the same time, the Pistesian Parrel was losing its value due to an economic recession, so he regulated large companies in order to fix the economy. In 1937, during Córdoba's second term, the only remaining territory of Mesalumia, which was the small island of Mesalumia itself, was annexed by Piste-Land, and Richardson Island was renamed to Cordoba Island. The 1960s brought with it an arms race across Equinox, prompting President Vincent Klossner to start spending on nuclear weapons development, and Piste-Land created its first nuclear bomb, Goldonian Wrath, in 1965.

The Great Defiance of 1977 brought a large amount of criminals with it. During its time, 394 people were executed. It ended when President Benedict Filippov boosted the police force by giving them new weapons. The 1980s and the 1990s saw new technologies being developed, and Piste-Land became a scientifically advanced nation in the 2000s.

In 2011, LDP candidate Ryan Ivanovich Poliakov was elected president. He formed the Neutral Entente with Cristar in late 2016. When Poliakov sent supplies to the Incredisomian troops in Free Incredisomia, he garnered controversy due to his supposed violation of the laws of the Neutral Entente, but he was proven innocent, since he did not send war material. After Free Incredisomia's defeat in the war against Incredisomia, Piste-Land purchased it and turned it into a colony, adding a star to the Pistesian flag. It later became a protectorate, and it finally became a full part of Piste-Land months later.

Soon after, Pistesian zoologists found out that the national animal, the Ground Whale, is actually very intelligent and is able to speak any language it is taught, so all Ground Whales living in Piste-Land and Free Incredisomia were given basic civil liberties and civil rights, including voting rights. However, no Ground Whales have held a position in government yet.

The MV Equinox, the lead ship, is the most luxurious ocean liner in Piste-Land. She has 14 decks, accommodations for 4,054 passengers, 10 restaurants, 4 spas, 3 grocery stores, a movie theater, an opera theater, 2 pools on the top deck, and more. For safety reasons, there are 28 lifeboats enough for every person on board including crew, 2 life rafts on the port and starboard sides, a triple hull made of steel, bulkheads that stretch all the way to the top, and lifeboat drills for every voyage. She is propelled by 4 reciprocating diesel engines, 1 gas turbine, and 3 propellers with 6 blades each.
